Pre-Op Liquid Diet
GMen88 replied to Sleeve1stFitNext's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm experiencing the opposite. I've felt constipated. I'm also only on day 3 of my liquid only diet. Hopefully it gets better as time progresses. -
Mine is March 30th. Surprisingly not afraid or nervous for the actual surgery. But extremely nervous of being under anesthesia. The thought I bring away one minute and the next minute, you're in recovery and don't recall having a major surgery done.... that scares me.

Headaches during pre-op liquid diet?
GMen88 replied to GMen88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never been a soda or tea drinker. I may not be getting in enough water. My tummy is full from the shakes. Great suggestion. Gracias! -
Congrats!!'

Went to my pre-op class on Thursday and was SO happy to know that I could have popsicles and jello because I'm almost certain I'm going to be tired of protein shakes! I start my liquid diet on Thursday. 4 shakes and 2 protein bars a day. Can have broth, popsicles, and jello also, along with water, Crystal light, G2, etc. And one small banana a day to keep potassium up. Trying to syke myself up to think it won't be as bad as it seems. Good luck, OP. We've got this [emoji4][emoji4]

To Tell or Not To Tell - That is the Question
GMen88 replied to JRaye's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my dad, aunt and best friends (3). That's all. They all live in Jersey and I'm alone in MD so I wanted the support of those who I knew would be there for me. I have some great friends here that I haven't told. And don't plan on telling. It's enough to battle eternally with yourself about the surgery, not really trying to hear the mouths of those who aren't on board. Also, it's my body so what I do to it is my call. I want to tell my brother but because I know for sure he will tell our grandmother, he can't know. lol she's extremely, unreasonably negative about life so I told her nada. I won't be seeing her until Nov (8 months after my surgery) and that's when she'll see me. And she'll mostly likely as me if I'm sick and on drugs or something but whatever. Do what's best for you. It's your decision and your journey. Best of luck!! [emoji4][emoji4] -
I've never heard that one before. Ever. Interesting...

Pissed Off and Rebelling
GMen88 replied to clevergirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope. Don't give up. It's frustrating but I think those 6 months are a great period to reeeaalyyy re-evaluate things and start making changes for the better. You said you know most of what your NUT is telling you, right? Cool. Those 6 months would have been a great time to put all of that information that you know into practice. Start changing your diet. Exercising a bit more. Make those lifestyle chances early so it won't be that much of a shock to the system after surgery. As someone mentioned, the sleeve isn't the end all be all. You've gotta put work in to make it work. Those 6 months could be the jumping off point for that shift. -
Just spoke with my surgeon about this on a Monday. I do have gallstones. He said that it will likely get worse after sleeve. And it hurts like a bitch now when it flares up. He will be doing my sleeve AND gallbladder in one surgery.

Surgery is a week away and I'm getting over a cold...
GMen88 replied to vsg2266's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you'll be fine. I'm currently getting over the flu and had a pre-op meeting with my surgeon this week. He said he doesn't see my surgery getting cancelled as long as I don't have any issues breathing. He wasn't concerned at all. You should be just fine. Best of luck! -
I've got one more pre-op test to take before my surgery on the 30th and that's the upper GI test. Can anyone tell me their experience with it? From what I googled, it doesn't seem like a very comfortable test and seems to take a long time. Any info would be great. Thanks!

Mine was submitted 2/28 and I was approved on 3/2. I have Anthem BCBS. I was told with my specific employer plan, it would take 5 business days to get a decision.

I got to pick my date based off of what they had available

Upper GI test... what's it like?
GMen88 replied to GMen88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's perfect! Thanks for making the distinction between the two. My surgeon only asked that I get an Upper GI test done, not and endoscopy. Good to know the difference. Thank you so much! -
Congrats!!

So you're put under for the test? That's kind of awesome, because I've never had a surgery and have never been put under so this will be good practice. Thanks! -

Pre Op Test when your surgery is not local EKG
GMen88 replied to TX2017Sleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in MD but am getting my surgery done in VA. All of my pre-op testing was done with my PCP or my local hospital. My insurance covered the cost of these tests for the most part. But I do recall looking at my summary and seeing that the ECG cost $455 and I was responsible for paying $23.14. However, I'm not sure what it will cost at your local lab or hospital. -
Congrats on your approval and best of luck on your journey!

Telling Friends and Family about surgery
GMen88 replied to boymomx2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my dad, aunt and best friend. That's it. Really no one's business. I told the ones I'm close to so they could support me throughout my journey. Everyone else can make assumptions [emoji4] -
