Lose Weight: Burn off brown fat cells?
fruitandveggies replied to James Marusek's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wonder how this would effect overall health. When brown fat was discovered it was because the fat was burning so hot (due to a chemical the men were mining) that it killed them. I wonder if we have more brown fat if it will eventually cause harm after the excess white fat is burned? Is there a way to turn it back? -
Surgery date: October 17...Is 1 day in the hospital enough?
fruitandveggies replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got to choose if I wanted one or two nights (apparently most people choose 2). After my first night I really wanted to leave and I was totally fine. They only used Tylenol 3 for pain over that one night and sent me home with no painkillers. It was totally fine. It's really remarkable how little pain there is after this. -

How long did it take you to lose 80lbs?
fruitandveggies replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm about 7.5 months out and I'm down 110 lbs. I also have about 80 pounds left to lose! I've been totally slacking lately though, so far I've been bouncing between 195-200 for a few weeks. So I guess it could be just a few months to lose 80, but not if we don't put the pedal to the metal! -
Hair growing back...different!?
fruitandveggies replied to fruitandveggies's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Really fascinated that this happens! I went to cosmetology school as a teen, so we learned all about hair shaft size and shape, follicular health, etc. But I have no clue how or why this happens, it's such a mystery to me! I really hope mine grows back a bit thicker, it was already silk fine to begin with. I'm showing a ton of scalp now. But hey, at least it's a cool looking red at the scalp! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Hair growing back...different!?
fruitandveggies replied to fruitandveggies's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for your answers guys! I was really hoping I wouldn't turn curly, I love my pin straight hair--it doesn't seem to be doing that. But that's also such a weird thing--texture change! I have only heard of that after chemo. I've tried Googling hair color change and can't find anything. Hopefully there's nothing wrong with me! -
Eczema flare up
fruitandveggies replied to CJ Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had debilitating eczema for years and years and the only thing that helped was acupuncture. I was already vegan, so I wasn’t having milk protein (but as a kid that did flare it up). So try cutting dairy out and consider acupuncture! -
Same weight for 7 days
fruitandveggies replied to RnYMike's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It happened to me and it seems to happen to everyone! You're still swollen and retaining a ton of fluid. You probably will be for about a month. I didn't loose much until I could start eating real food around week 4. It's crazy, but it will happen! -
How did you choose your goal weight?
fruitandveggies replied to ChaosUnlimited's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah I totally get this and I understand it. I just really hate that my medical team wants me to lower my standards. Like they'd rather see me fail (as long as the failure is better than where I started) than encouraging me and cheering me on. I'm not a child, I can handle myself if I get disappointed. And actually, I would never treat a child that way, I would encourage them the whole time that they can get their goals. -
Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian
fruitandveggies replied to FlyFatA$$Fly's topic in Food and Nutrition
Very true! Too bad the actual experts have the longer, more-syllabic name with the word "DIET" in it. Not as attractive to people. -
How did you choose your goal weight?
fruitandveggies replied to ChaosUnlimited's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doctor said a similar thing, but I don't understand why. It actually really pissed me off, so I'm determined to prove her wrong! That is a normal weight for people our height. I don't see why it's such a crazy idea. -
Update your Profile for better Results?

Totally agree! It's not very intuitive at all, maybe some folks are having trouble finding where to update that info. -

Agreed with you, OP! I must be slightly OCD because the idea of not updating that info makes me cringe! I can't just go around having incorrect data about me floating around... -
Onederland!
fruitandveggies replied to SIPS in Seattle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yay!!! Congrats! Just made it there myself and it's more exciting than losing 100 pounds! -
Agreed with everything everyone said. This happened to me too, but my surgeon said to get full sugar Gatorade (I got the natural, Whole Foods brand) and drink veggie broth. It helped me within a few minutes! So maybe ask them if you can try it?

I'm a huge Vitamix fan! Mine is still going strong after 12 years. Though I admit these days I'm using the Nutri-Ninja for smoothies because the serving cup is so convenient.

Notification that I have something in my cart?
fruitandveggies replied to summerset's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
This is the kind of thing that makes me determined to never buy from a place. If I see your ad, I won't buy from you either. I do NOT want to be sold to. If I'm out shopping for something, I'll find the best product for me and it's not because of your obnoxious ads or tricky sales tactics. -

So happy to hear this, it's just an important thing that we can do as humans to reduce suffering. I would encourage you to check out Earthlings--the best documentary on the subject. (FYI, very graphic in parts) -
How did you choose your goal weight?
fruitandveggies replied to ChaosUnlimited's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
THIS. The last time I lost 130 pounds I got to 145 and people kept telling me I was too skinny. I was still in a size 14! I know it sounds stupid, but I let it mess with my head and I gained back all of it plus 60 pounds. Never let people tell you you're too skinny. Man that really pisses me off. -
How did you choose your goal weight?
fruitandveggies replied to ChaosUnlimited's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's a great question! My docs don't ask for a goal weight, but mine has always been 120 lbs. Last time I lost a large amount of weight, I got down to 145. I was a size 14 and still had a good amount of fat. I also have a small frame, so I was estimating 120 would be good for me. That would be a 20 BMI. We will see what I feel like when I'm closer! -
No weight loss since one week postop
fruitandveggies replied to Ktm42181's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm guessing that you're still retaining fluid from the actual procedure. I held onto mine for a few weeks. Just remember that it's physically impossible (against physics) to eat that little and not lose weight eventually. It can take time, you're still filled with fluid and are swollen. It will happen! -
Thank you, good info!

FWIW, my surgeon won't perform DS because he believes the malabsorption is too great. He is a firm believer in the "gold standard" of bypass. About regain, I don't know why the DS would keep someone from regaining any more than a bypass. You can snack yourself fat either way!
