    Hair loss help!!!!!

Happened to me too but I wasn't blessed with thick hair to begin with. But the ray of hope is it WILL stop falling out and it will grow back. I know it sucks right now, but it will be okay in a few months! Mine started going around 6 months and it's starting to grow back at 10 months.

Oh no! My hair is falling out!

I feel you, my hair started falling out around month 6. I was eating around 1500 calories a day and taking a double dose of biotin (as well as all my other vitamins). My surgeon says there's nothing you can really do to prevent it. But it's growing back now (and in a new color!). It won't last but a few months, but it's a pain while it's happening for sure.

    Surgery and period ugggh

I had the same thing happen to me! So annoying. I just told the nurse prepping me about it and they give you those giant mesh panties with a maternity pad. They wouldn't let me wear my own underwear and of course no tampons. The most annoying part was dealing with it after surgery. I really didn't feel like bending over to put in a tampon so I just used giant pads do I didn't have to deal with it as often.

Sooo tired of this pain! Someone help!

I used to have this problem all the time, it was caused by gas trapped up under there. According to my gastro, I actually DID have reflux issues but didn't have the classic burning or gurgling feeling and this pain/gas was part of it. But if you're only two weeks out you're not even healed yet! It takes 4-5 weeks to heal internally. So it very well could be gas trapped in there, it could also just be soreness from the surgery itself. Your surgeon should be able to tell you by feeling around in there!

    Workout music

I'm a big fan of happy hardcore and UK hardcore. Been loving the Bonkers series lately, #15 in particular!

    Fitbit or Apple Watch

This is a hard one, but it depends on your preferences. I am a huge Apple nerd so I got the Apple Watch the year it came out. Before that, I had Fitbits for years and loved them. I ultimately ended up sticking with the Apple Watch (after a time of wearing both) because it can do infinitely more than a Fitbit. I love having a tiny computer on my wrist and the new Series 3 with cell service allows me to leave my phone at home on walks, etc. I can listen to music on it, take calls, text, directions, etc. Basically most things a phone does. The Fitbit (even the nicest ones) can't do all that. They can show you texts and that someone is calling, but you need the phone nearby. The screens aren't as nice, but they are cheaper to buy and have longer living batteries. They are more durable in my experience, though I've heard the higher end new ones aren't as much so. For fitness...well...Apple Watch as come a really long way. But Fitbit is probably still better at this aspect. They have the social infrastructure that some people need/want and that is a big draw. Apple is trying to add this social feature but it's just not there yet. I have found that both of them read about the same as far as steps and calories, but no wrist device is extremely accurate (especially if you do non-walking/running activities). But you get a good idea. I don't know if Fitbit can do this, but the Apple Watch can pair with a chest strap heart rate monitor and the new Series 3 is basically waterproof (you can swim with it). So...I LOVE my Apple Watch, but if you don't care about all the other tech features and want just fitness tracking, you might want to go with Fitbit. I had the Fitbit HR 2 (heart rate is key for me) and liked it. Let us know what you end up getting!

Lower belly pain 1 month post-op

Obviously please go get that checked out! But I had that kind of pain as well and it was just gas/indigestion passing through, but it felt more constant than it was before surgery. It takes about 4-5 weeks for your innards to heal (according to my surgeon). But do get checked out, you never know!

    I’m a WARRIOR!

Thanks for your energy! I'm 10 months out and in a real rut. I need your newbie fire! And also, great job--hope it all went well!
  10. I don't drink shakes, but I get very sleepy after having protein at all. Same with fat. My docs and NUT don't know why, but I feel much better when I eat mainly carbs (healthy ones, of course).

Cigna - Center of Excellence required?

I have Cigna OAP and yes, it was required. Of course, that may just be my plan with my employer, but yes, I needed the hospital to be a COE.

    Electronic weight loss program recommendations?

I personally do Weight Watchers, so I use their app. But I also often track on Sparkpeople, which I have been using and loving since 2004. I love that it has so many micronutrient options, because I love to track those (super important for us!).

    Embarrassed and struggling

I had this same issue but luckily I don't live alone! I also have no health problems. It was determined that my blood pressure was too low and hot showers make it even worse. Once I had some higher sodium broth (and then foods), I didn't feel that again. But yeah be sure to have the other issues mentioned checked too!

    Clothing Sizes

I know! It's killing me. I'm a 33" waist and 45" hip which Torrid says it would be a 10 or a 12 in their jeans. I just graduated to a 16 in their JEGGINGS. I literally just have to guess at the store now.

    Clothing Sizes

I agree, but we are not in the majority! It's just another money making scheme, if it didn't appeal to the masses they wouldn't do it. It's really annoying though! I can't stand not having any idea what size I am when I walk in a store. I already have trouble since I've just lost 125 pounds, but add that random "proprietary sizing" on top of it and I just have to try everything on! Haha. It's customer-hostile on the broad scale, but companies only care about their own bottom line. Sigh!

    Clothing Sizes

Yep, that's true. Juniors are made with slimmer hips and thighs and usually shorter inseam.
  17. fruitandveggies

    Clothing Sizes

Yep, it's true! I have my degree in fashion design so we learned all about the screwed up sizing. Sizes used to be far, far smaller, which is why you see Marilyn Monroe (with a 24 inch waist) being a size 12. There was a movement along the way to standardize sizing, but that isn't profitable for stores. Where are you gonna shop, the place were you can fit into an 8 or a 14? People really care about the sizes. I wear a medium in Target brand dresses, but a 16/18 in Torrid jeans (but a 00 in their dresses). It's totally screwed! And now it's happening for men, too. A 32 pant used to mean a 32 inch waist. Well, now it doesn't it's totally arbitrary to the brand.

    Small Victories

First of all, great job! It's so important to recognize NSVs along the way, and those are awesome! Second of all, bodies are so weird. I just celebrated getting into a size 16 in a plus size store and I'm 183 pounds at 5'5. You're gonna be a size zero at that rate, great job!

Share your story: Weird body habits post-op

I've just recently discovered that my old "full" feeling that used to tell me when I'm done is actually WAY WAY past full now. My surgeon's office of course would have no idea about this since they've never had the surgery and it's very subtle (and maybe it only happens to me?). I would be getting very tired, nauseous, and sometimes vomited after nearly any meal. My NUT and PA were clueless, but I believe the answer is I'm just eating past full without knowing it. Now, the signal is a very quiet sense of queasiness. If I stop there, I'm okay. It feels wrong because I don't feel "full" and my program tells me to eat until I'm full. But after 9 months of feeling like crap after meals, I'm pretty sure that subtle nausea is me being full. C'mon now body, something a little more obvious would help! Also--has anyone else had this happen? I'm down nearly 125 pounds and my stomach fat is causing me more back pain than ever. I don't know why this would be the case as it's much smaller and lighter than ever! I do regular core training too. Hmm, funny bodies.

    Pre op

Mine was just three days of clear liquid beforehand to clear out the pipes. It really depends on your surgeon! Honestly, I'd prefer liquids for two weeks before. I personally hate eating, it's so damn stressful to make the right choices and I usually end up sick to my stomach. I have a long history of fasting, so I actually really enjoyed that time. If you do decide to fast, make sure to let your surgeon's office know as it might effect your numbers on surgery day and they should be aware of that.

    Multivitamin Patches

I've heard from a couple of different doctors that they aren't effective if you're over 185 pounds. It's really just an "insurance policy" as my NUT puts it, so they would probably be fine since you'll eventually get that weight probably.
  24. Watching my mom go through it, I'd say someone to help you! Recording when and how much of what meds is essential, and make sure the person has good handwriting (I couldn't read it at all when my dad wrote it, haha). Good luck!

Is Vital Wheat Gluten the same as eating bread?

Field Roast is sooo good! Yeah, like the others said, it's very high in protein as it's taken nearly all the carbohydrate out of the wheat. I'm personally fine with bread, the thing I have an issue with is high fat, high protein foods. So while I loved Field Roast before surgery, now they make me really queasy and sometimes vomit. My NUT has asked me to eat less protein to try to reduce this (I'm becoming food averse, but that's a different story). So yeah, long story short, the burgers should be fine from your surgeon's view.
