I don't like the way I feel
dg371 replied to elbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was on March 6th. I felt sick for 4- 5'days but then I woke up one day and felt so much better. I'm still a little tired but im feeling better every day. And yes, I too have this insane heightened sense of smell. Drives me crazy... -
I went through the same thing. I think it's because all we are taking in is liquid, so that is what comes out. Once I started on pureed foods it firmed up a bit.

Any sleevers from Cape May County, NJ?
dg371 replied to dg371's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! Glad to see I'm not alone here in South Jersey!' -
I have the same problem so I started drinking almost hot decaf herbal tea. Really helped me!
-
I agree with Dlhandel. I am only 7 days post, but for the first 4 days I couldn't get anything in. Almost hot decaf herbal tea really helped. Now at 7 days..This am I tried a poached egg. Was delish and I was able to get 1/2 down. No cramping or pain so far.

Ok, found one I like! Syntrax nectar cappuccino flavor. I made it with Fairlife extra protein skim milk. Then I added a bit of the premier chocolate shake. So I had a lovely choc. cappuccino for breakfast!

Please, please tell me that there is a decent tasting protein drink out there? I don't know how I'm going to make it. I can not handle Isopure or liquidcel so far. Nor unflavored protein powder. There is a smell to all these drinks and as soon as they get up by my nose, my stomach wants to retch. TMI - Even after just a taste, I belch it back up and can smell it...omg...I don't know how I'm going to handle protein shakes when I get to full liquids. I'm really concerned about not getting my protein requirements but I don't want to vomit everytime I try to drink one of these.
-
So far, premier chocolate shake is not terrible. I can actually get that down. The vanilla is awful to me though. I bought a bottle each of choc and vanilla muscle milk to try. Also have a bunch of syntrax to try. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

I was gassy and nauseas and retched for 4 days. My surgery was March 6th. I could barely drink anything so I had to stay an extra day in the hospital. I finally started to feel better after taking some gasx chewables. Today I feel great!

neeBoston, I agree! Its the smell that really makes all these protein products terrible!
-
Thanks everyone for the recommendations. Im currently trying New Whey liquid protein. It's only 3.8 ozs so it's not overwhelming to try and get through in a day, for now. Its 42g protein. Im trying acai berry. It's not horrible. I may be able to choke this down if I hold my nose. It's the protein smell that really gets me.

2nd day Post-Op... fluid intake
dg371 replied to ShilohD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So the only thing that I seem to tolerate is warm herbal tea. At least I'm getting a little hydration. Oh, got some gasx chewables! What a relief! That gas in my belly wouldn't allow me to put anything else in there! I was burping like a construction dude after a few beers. Not very lady like but oh so good! -
I'm newly sleeved this past Monday, and besides the nausea I also have the same gas issue. It's making it very difficult to just get my water intake. Even a sip of water causes a 10 minute long painful gas/burping episode.

2nd day Post-Op... fluid intake
dg371 replied to ShilohD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also sleeved on Monday. Also had to stay in an extra night because I couldn't keep anything down and my nausea was crazy. It's a little better today. They kept me on iv liquids to keep my hydrated. I only managed about 6 oz of water today and 2oz of decaf herbal tea. -
BCBS of Alabama and terrible PCP experience
dg371 replied to SummerShadow's topic in Insurance & Financing
You may just want to request all of your medical records from your current and former pcp. That's what I did. You may have to pay a fee but it's worth it. If you decide to change pcp from that point, ask your surgeon if there are any that they can recommend that are more understanding of your situation. -
Whew! I have fedbcbs of NJ and I can't believe it but I was approved in 2 days from submittal! I called today to check up on it, (because I'm very impatient) and I was told that I'm approved and I made sure to get the authorization number. I'm scheduled for sleeve on March 6. Thanks to my surgeon's very diligent staff for guiding me through the many hoops that federal insurance makes you jump through!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. So, guess what? Apparently when I called the ins. co last week, I didn't actually have an approval. I found that out yesterday during my last weigh-in and bootcamp before surgery! My approval didn't come through until just as I was about to call them to find out what was going on, while still in the drs office! Nearly gave me a heart attack when the Surgeons ins. specialist told me that! My surgery is set forthis coming Monday.

Pre Op feeling of FAILURE
dg371 replied to krissyleigh's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I too, have struggled with my weight for now going on 30years. I lose weight, I gain weight, lose it again, only too come back twice as much. I always feel hungry. I am always thinking about my next meal. My dad, brother, and I all love too cook and share our meals with family and friends. food is what we talk about when we call each other. However, my brother and dad have never been overweight. I cook weight watcher meals and they cook recipes that could be straight from the butter queen of cooking! I'm now in the process of trying too change my relationship with food. Using WLS as a tool to help curb my appetite while learning to see food as fuel only. I will have grieving pains, but I'll get over it. I've got to or I will die early like my mom. I have 5 grandkids to watch grow up! I want to walk my dog again, and garden, and ride my motorcycle again. I want to travel to every state in America and hike in the rocky mountains. These are all things that should be and will be more important to me than the momentary enjoyment of too many bites of food. I can not be body positive while overweight because there is nothing positive about it. It's killing me.
