Oneyearout replied to RJrocks's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
One year this month I had my surgery... when you get to your goal cleaning your closet out is the most fun. I retired last summer and gave all business suits to good will. Giving away my my heels to buy running shoes is a lot of fun too! Down 100 lbs, passed my goal and feeling better then ever. Going shopping dreading to but hoping I find something to buy that will look half way descent to me. Now, everything looks good it's hard to decide what not to buy. Being healthy has no age! -

Very New and Scared
Oneyearout replied to Pink1022's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 62 and had the sleeve done a year ago this month. I told no one but my husband, I didn't want anyone talking me out of it either. I feel better now then I have in years. Started gaining weight in my late 40s. I've lost 100 lbs in one year and passed my goal. The BEST thing I ever did for myself. Finally a few months out told my two children who live on their own and told two of my best friends who both live in other towns. It is no ones business unless you are comfortable telling them. Trust your gut and if you feel it's right for you do it. This group sounds like some smart and kind people and if any of them lived in Oklahoma we would all be friends. I agree surgery is scary but living healthy is so much worth it for me anyway. Pray about it and find peace with your decision. Good Luck! -

Kiki, I had to weight two months also for insurance. Visited with my doctor he told me to maintain for two month. I was close to being a diabetic, father passed away of heart problems, 3 half sibling were diabetics and none over weight. My doctors convinced my insurance that it was best to have surgery. 1 year out this month. Lost 100 lbs, jogging 4 miles a day, passed my goal weight and feeling wonderful. Best thing I ever did. Outlaw hope you are doing well. Know you can get thru this and will be better for it!!! Keep up the good work. Kikib85 keep us posted.

Natural Hair and Bariatric Surgery
Oneyearout replied to Sleeve1stFitNext's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
One year out this month. Lost 100 lbs. I did shed hair but I also had it cut lady June which probably wasn't the smartest move. It's getting thicker but I hated that I once had long thick hair and now short and thinner. Comparing some hair loss and losing 100 lbs I WOULD STILL HAVE THE SLEEVE! How I feel, the energy I have, knowing I can wear skinny jeans and look great.... means so much more. Jogging 4 miles a day!!! Not even close to being a diabetic anymore means so very much more. -

Did your style change
Oneyearout replied to lisa0617's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Now the hardest thing is deciding what to buy because when you do shop, everything fits and everything looks good. Haven't done that in 30 years. It's an amazing feeling. Instead of buying that one thing that looks the least unattractive, buying many things that look GREAT! -
What's the deal with hair loss?
Oneyearout replied to Soexcited's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello, I had surgery I year ago this month and have lost almost 100 lbs. Passed my goal. I lost weight pretty fast and lost hair. That was really the only problem I really had. Which wasn't THAT much of a problem compared to how much better I feel. It has started growing back in. I drank all my water, took my vitamins, ate mostly proteins and always fresh vegetables. No carbs no sugar exercise and now jogging 4 miles a day. Everyone I know who has had the sleeve lost some hair. I just wear it different and go on. Still the surgery is the BEST thing I ever did. -
Over 60 and having the sleeve
Oneyearout replied to ginnylee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello everyone! Glad I found you all, my age. In Oklahoma, got sleeve a year ago this month, was 61. Was never over weight until my late 40's then packed it on. 230 at surgery. Now 136. Feeling great but am also nervous that I can maintain. I eat protein, jog 4 miles a day, drink all my water and take daily vitamins. Everything has been good except I really lost hair. Anyone have that problem. It's starting to come back really wavy and more curly now. Which is fine... losing 93 lbs in a year compare to some hair loss... no problem. Love to hear from others on your journey. If you ask would I do it again at this age YOU BET! Wish I had done it 20 years ago. Almost Diabetic and heart problems is what got my attention. Great to hear about all your successes and concerns! -
Rydersmama I totally agree. Proud proud proud of you. I year out and this is the best thing I ever did. Passed my goal and am in awe of you who are
