  1. After surgery, and recovery, and liquid diets are complete, and you are feeling good. What do your diets look like? what types of meals are you eating? are you eating carbs? I am currently eating a low carb diet (about 40-50g per day) which come from veg, little fruit and low carb tortillas. I am prepared for what my liquid diets will look like post surgery.... but what about the rest of my life?
  2. In Alberta, the process for WLS is already a long one, but I met with my clinic today for my monthly meeting and was told surgery is still another 6ish months away I had my first meeting in July 2016 (referral from doctor was sent in Sept 2015) and now hoping for a November 2017 surgery date. I was so hoping that I would be told my surgery date is July/Aug - but the surgeon I am seeing has decided not to do and WLS surgeries over the summer, and his list is already long - so the best I can hope for is November. I realize that, in the scheme of things, this isn't that long.... but I have already been waiting for this since my original referral in Sept 2015! I am having a tough time keeping positive (with my diet, and in general) How long did you wait?
  3. Thanks all. I have met, and surpassed my pre-op weight loss (started last may at 275, now at 191lbs) - clinic told me to try and maintain my weight where I am (not gain, not lose) - so I guess I am relieved that they don't want me to lose anymore, but I am worried about gaining - all "diets" I have done have always failed, resulting in all the weight, plus some returning. I had the clinic put me on the cancelation list, so I am crossing my fingers that I am called.

How long till you hit GOAL Weight?

I have been keto - moving to low carb and a "low carb" diet is generally under 150g/day - keto is 20g, but there are some "keto'ers" that go up to 50g/day - I would say you are very low carb, but not necessarily keto.
  5. Thank you for your answer, I am wondering how long you have been in maintenance for?

    Below 40 BMI buddies

Hello I started with a BMI of 47.2 (275lbs) but because the process here in Canada is so long, I am now at a BMI of 32.78 (191lbs) and still 3-4 months from surgery. I am a little nervous about getting WLS at a low BMI, but when I started the program I was definitely qualified with a BMI of over 47. I have asked my surgeon, "what if I lose too much before surgery?" he told me that I was already accepted into the program so they can't deny me anymore, and that surgery is still a good option because so many people with my weight history find it comes back with normal diet. I am expecting the loss to be slower than if I had gotten surgery at 275lbs but I am hoping the lower BMI just means I can recover easier because I am in better health than before.
  7. Thank you both for the comments, they are very helpful.
  8. I am a year into my journey with the Red Deer bariatric clinic and have been told that surgery will likely be 3-4 months away. I am wondering what the post-op diet was like for those who used the Red Deer bariatric clinic? What were your overall experience with the sleeve from Red Deer? Thank you!
  9. The only thing I am nervous about with my upcoming sleeve surgery is the post op liquid diet. Did you find you felt full? I am 100% ok with only drinking liquids, as long as I actually feel full! I am terrified that I will feel very hungry.

    Post Op Liquid diet hard?

I am also SO READY!!! but nervous as well! I have significantly cut my eating down so I am preparing myself a little
  12. I am seeing the surgeon again mid march to set my surgery date and I was wondering if anyone has had their surgery from the Red Deer bariatric clinic? Just wondering how long the wait for an actual surgery date might be? I have already done all the pre-op meetings and appointments, and lost my 10%, now just need the surgery.

    Post Op Liquid diet hard?

I am waiting to get my surgery date (appointment with surgeon is next month) so I haven't started any pre op prep. I am on a strict keto diet right now (was able to loose my 10% pretty quick) and have become fat adapted, so I do not feel hungry often, but I am worried about switching to all liquids. Its the "dumping" effect that scares me, I don't want to chance eating too much but don't want to feel hungry either.
