Recovery Time..after Lap Band Removal?
cheryl1970 replied to seppi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What kind of arthritis do you have? Did it happen after your lapband? -
I don't know if you still get on here but I am concerned about this too. I came down with psoriatic arthritis within six months of getting the lapband. I am having mine removed next week. If you happen to see this post please get back to me on your findings after the removal of your lapband. Hope you are doing better.

I have struggled with this lapband since October 8, 2008. I lost 23 lbs at the beginning on the liquid diet. Within six months after my lapband I came down with psoriatic arthritis. This is an immune disease that leaves psoriasis all over your body and arthritis in your joints. Can also affect your organs. Is compared to Rheumatoid Arthritis. I should have known not to do this because I already had sjogrens, another immune disease. I don't know if I was pre-destined to get this or the lapband actually caused it, these are things we will never know. I just know that I have struggled with this disease and now on methotextrate injections every week and simponi once a month. Have been on Humira and Embrel but didn't work. I am a little scared about the surgery again but I know it is the best thing to do for me. If any of you have ever had these issues please get back to me. We need to let the company know if this is the cause to help others not to do this. I understand alot of people do have success and I am very happy for them but I have also been doing alot of research and it seems that over 40 % of the people with lapbands will have to remove them within 5 years because of some kind of complication. I don't want to wait until that happens. If any of you can, please pray for me that everything goes well and I can get my life back to normal again. I plan on starting a nutrtitional healthy plan with some exercise. I have found out the hard way for me the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. No miracles out there for me. Thanks for listening. I sure hope that the girl who had the band removed this week is okay. She hasn't responded to anyone yet. Prayers need to go up for her too. Cheryl

Lap Band Removal On December 7th.
cheryl1970 replied to cheryl1970's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
why did you have your band removed? I sure hope that with the band out that maybe my autoimmune diseases will at least be controlable. Did you have to diet before or did they give your blood thinner injections to take? How long did it take for them to remove your band? Thanks, Cheryl -

One Month After Lap Band Removal: My Results
cheryl1970 replied to Sunta's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am having my band removed on December 7th. I am very confused on why the surgeon isn't requiring me to be on a liquid diet to remove the band. My understanding was it was to shrink my liver before surgery. Why aren't they concerned about the liver while taking it out Seems it would be the same problems with surgery. Have you heard anyone talk about this situation on here? I should have never gotten the band. I am an emotional eater. I hardly ever eat much at sittings it is when I am by myself or watching television. I know what has to be done to lose weight why I thought a band would help me? I am really upset with myself always looking for a quick way out and all it ever came down to regardless of band or not is eating less and excersing more. Did you have any problems after the removal? Why did they have to remove yours beause of your appendix? If you can help me I would really appreciated it. I am getting a little scared about the upcoming surgery. The only problem I have which is a big problem to me after surgery I always have a hard time breathing it is like I can't get any air and I panic. I have severe obstructive sleep apnea and I don't know if that has something to do with it or not. When I got the lapband I had problems but the anethesiologist was aware of this and brought me out of the sedation slowly. At any rate please keep me in your prayers. Thanks, Cheryl -

No one wants to even consider the possibility of the band bringing on the immune disease. I pray it will go away after removal but I am afraid that it my have brought it out earlier. If it would just not be so severe I could live with it. All my famly believes the band caused this and are anxious for me to have the band removed. Remember me on December 7th. Thanks for replying. -

Denial My Band Needs to Come Out
cheryl1970 replied to lovegrapes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so sorry about you Mom. I am really worried about having this surgery. What is ARDS? I am going to the doctor today to have my primary doctor order up tests before surgery. I also am interested in your diet you have been on. This was the craziest thing I believe I have ever done. My family was totaly against the lapband but I wouldn't listen. I pray I can get through this and start new by losing weight the way it should be done. Thanks, Cheryl -
I am one of those people who has not had any success with the lapband. I know it is my fault because too many people lose. My question is how many lapbanders have come down with an autoimmune disease after the lapband implant? It wasn't six months after that I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. I am now on Embrel and Methotextrate injections every week. Doctors keep telling me NO NO NO this cannot cause thiese kinds of problems but it seems so wierd how right afterwards I started getting sick with this disease. Waiitng for replies. Cheryl

Please keep me posted about what your surgeon and insurance co says. I am at the starting point where I have been doing alot of researching about the removal itself. I am kinda scared to go back into surgery. But I really want this out. I haven't lost a pound and my health has gone down hill in the past three years.

How come you had your band removed? I am trying to get up enough courage to get this thing out. I haven't had any success with this and I am not healthy. I came down with psoriatic arthritis six months after the band and have been struggling with this ever since. -
Recovery Time..after Lap Band Removal?

After 4 years the band is coming out1

What happened to your Mother? So sorry for you loss. I am also looking into getting this thing removed. -
I know you don't want to hear anything negative at this point because I was there four years ago. I haven't lost any weight probably gained a pound or two. Frustrated and depressed because I still feel like the same failure I was when I had the surgery. Some people have success with this band but believe me if you are an emotional eater or like sweets it doesn't work. You have to get your head right first. The surgery won't do that for you. I also have an autoimmune disease called sjogrens and they still did the surgery. Six months afterwards I started gettting a skin problem. My hands looked like hambuger meat. It was on top of my feet and toes, elbows. I went to a couple of family doctors, two dermatologists, three rheumatologists.. After a year finally was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis. Another autoimmune disease. Now taking Embrel and Methotextrate injections every week. It not only is a terrible skin disease but also disforms your joints like rheumatoid arthritis. I am not sure why and if it was just a coiencidence it came after my surgery but I have been researching the band and have read some people have come down with autoimmune diseases. I am in the planning of having this band removed. I am really afraid to have another major surgery to correct my mistake but I have to find out if the band is causing my problem. I am not telling you to not get the lapband I am just saying do alot of research. They have alot more information about lapbands years down the road. No matter what you do to lose weight it always comes down to two things. Diet and Exercise. You have to do this with or without the lapband. Let me know what you do and whatever you decide I wish you success with your weight problem. Cheryl

Denial My Band Needs to Come Out
cheryl1970 replied to lovegrapes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just curious as to what you decided. I got banded Oct 2008 and no weight loss. I have had fills and fills removed and thrown up and just haven't done well at all. Six months after the surgery I started getting psoriasis on my hands, feet, legs, fingers, etc they looked like hamburger meat. It is affecting my job now. I went to several family doctors, two dematologists, three rheumatologists. Finally the last rheumatologist I went to diagnosed me as psoriatic arthritis. I am now taking Embrel and Methotextrate injections every week and still I am in bad shape. It is like Rheumatoid arthrtitis where it deforms your joints. My sed rate which is inflamation in your body was elevated. I already had one immune disease before surgery (sjogrens) and I told them about it but they still did the surgery. My family thinks this is realated to the band I have done research for two years now and can't get any confirmations on this. Even my doctors say no it can't be the band. It just seems wierd how it happened just a few months later. Need a little information and I am like you I am really afraid of going through this surgery again. Thanks, Cheryl Lynn -
