@ssbthodge, I'm in your boat. Even though I've lost almost 30 pounds since the surgery 5 weeks ago and about 45 pounds from my highest, I look in the mirror and see absolutely nothing different. Fat, fat, fat. Same with pictures! But the people close to me swear up and down that the change is real. Sigh.

POST SURGERY - FEBRUARY SLEEVERS
EmmyJ replied to Slightly86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't be discouraged about those numbers, 20 pounds in 24 days is very good! But if you haven't been walking already, definitely get into it! It helps with gas, pain, and your metabolism. -
I had my surgery on a Thursday and went back to work the next Tuesday. I didn't feel perfect, but I wasn't in (much) pain or having nausea. I did get tired pretty easily, but I think within a week of being back at work I was mostly back to my normal self

Favourite post op liquid?
EmmyJ replied to The thinner me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Various flavors of bone broth. -
I was advised to leave it for soft foods, but that was just tuna, not pureed. I don't think I'd care to send it through the blender. Lol

My favorite!!

Pre-Op Liquid Diet
EmmyJ replied to Sleeve1stFitNext's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm one of those weird patients who wasn't assigned a pre-op liquid diet (except for 24 hours before surgery) but I can tell you that during the two week liquid diet after surgery, I definitely had nothing but the runs. This resolved itself a little on its own before the phase was up, but really resolved itself when I started eating more solid food. -
Oh no, that's just a random title given to me by the site based on how many posts you've made. For example, so far, yours is novice, and will change as you post more. I'm only 23, so I'm not what you're looking for! Luckily, there are forums on the site for older patients. I'll post a few threads I've found: Any 2017 60'ish sleever's out there? http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/392282-any-2017-60ish-sleevers-out-there/ Any More Sixties? http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/224898-any-more-sixties/?page=10 And there's a few threads under 70s and beyond here, but they're not recently active: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/418-seventies-amp-beyond/ Good luck! @Keebie sorry for going off topic

Eggs and refried beans
EmmyJ replied to jenifreckles47's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I was allowed both of these foods in the puree stage. -
I don't know if it was walking or just time, but I had that shooting left shoulder pain when I got out of the hospital too. It went away in under two weeks without any particular intervention. I'm assuming it was leftover CO2 and hopefully yours will pass soon

Mine were fat free refried beans, greek yogurt (I recommend oikos triple zero, no chunks), cottage cheese, Shelly's Ricotta Bake on the Eggface blog, and scrambled eggs (doesn't work for everyone). These are good protein choices! Other than that, I had some oatmeal, cream of wheat, and cream soups to which I added unflavored protein powder.

Haven't lost and is one week out
EmmyJ replied to Joy889's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, there's absolutely no need to worry about the scale moving in the first week! Your body just had a major trauma with this surgery and is working to heal itself. You're probably a bit bloated and watered down, so retaining a little weight is not unusual. Try to stay off the scale for awhile until you start feeling more like yourself. Keep drinking and walking. You're doing everything right--it'll come off soon! -
Definitely never hurts to call the doc!
-
I have hiccups sometimes after eating that I didn't used to have. I think it's normal. One week post-op I wasn't eating any food at all, so I wouldn't worry too much about that, just get your protein and fluids
-
It's the worst, right? I think the depression is in full force while you're on liquids and even purees and you just feel like a sick patient all the time instead of a person. One good thing to do is to take care of yourself in non-food ways: mani/pedi, get your hair done, try on makeup at sephora, relax with some scented candles and a good book...and try to crush the cravings with sweet and savory both protein mixes. I found after a week of my sweet chocolate protein shakes all I wanted was salty savory soup. There are companies that make savory protein flavors! It's really hard, but you were strong enough to do this surgery and make this lifestyle change; you'll be strong enough to make it through the hard parts

What are you all eating at 2 weeks post op
EmmyJ replied to tanyatg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to comment on this post, just to find that my menu is almost identical to the previous poster. The only additional thing I can think of is thinned oatmeal and cream of wheat mixed with protein powder. -
What are you eating 3wk postop?
EmmyJ replied to SleevedinSI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html Part of the Eggface blog, a very good resource! This page is all about the puree stage, including the ricotta bake recipe. -
What are you eating 3wk postop?
EmmyJ replied to SleevedinSI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been having refried beans, cottage cheese, Eggface's ricotta bake (yum yum), scrambled egg (be careful, it doesn't sit well with everyone), greek yogurt, thinned cream of wheat, and sometimes the creamed soups from full liquid. Happy eating! -
3 More Days till I'm Sleeved

Good luck and work hard, you'll be great! -
I got all my protein in today
EmmyJ replied to nitasjourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
High five! I have problems getting enough water too, but it gets easier. You go girl! -
Do mashed potatoes count? Lol. They're on the list of suggested foods for my puree stage, but I'm sure they're not the best choice, even though I put protein powder in them. They just taste yummy and sit well. Hopefully a half cup of them every couple of days isn't killing my weight loss...

Egg Drop Soup on full liquid diet?
EmmyJ replied to Jess55's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think on full liquids egg drop soup is supposed to have all the solid egg strained out of it. At purees you can have the bits of egg Ask your surgeon/NUT though if you'd like to be sure for your particular plan! -
I know some people have problems with scrambled eggs. Maybe leave them alone for now and try a different puree, like refried beans or blended soup, or that yummy ricotta bake! I'm lucky enough to not be having any intolerances at this point, but you should definitely not give up on the purees.

LADIES - 1 week postop menstruation
EmmyJ replied to K80Liz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got it too. It was on time, but my periods never actually come on time, so I was surprised anyway I guess surgery does that! -
It wasn't all that long, just about mile and a half, and it took me way too long, but I finally did a hiking trail the other day! It's something I used to enjoy when I was a thin kid. It was embarrassing having to stop every 30 seconds on the uphills to catch my breath, but I did it by myself so nobody had to see me. It felt good when I was done, and the view at the top of the mountain was pretty
