    New, waiting on approval

Welcome Carrie! And congrats on being done with your "to do list" as I call it. That's exactly where I am too, I had my final appt. today (Nutritionist) and now the waiting begins. I've heard the horror stories too, and I am trying to stay positive. We just have to have faith & trust that this is the right thing for us, and one way or another, it'll all work out. I know, easier said than done, but I'm trying to tell myself that & just stay positive. :biggrin2: I am 32 and I live in central NC, and like you, I've been overweight for the past 10-12 years, and I am SOOO tired of all the diets out there. I think most of all, I'm just so tired of getting my hopes up & failing. But, from why I've heard, and if we follow the diet & dr's orders, it's gonna work! I am also not looking forward to the liquid diet, but it's only 2 weeks, it'll go by so fast, especially when we see we are losing weight! Plus, there are so many great recipes out there, hopefully we can make it a little interesting. Goodluck on your journey ~ and I haven't been a part of this board very long ~ but I have noticed that people here are very kind & supportive. Let us know what happens and not IF you're approved, but WHEN you're approved!
  2. Hello everyone...I'm pretty new here...but I am learning so much! I have been on my lapband journey since December, and I have one more appt. (nutritionist) and hopefully I'll have my date by summer! Anyway, I thought I knew all there was to know, boy was I wrong. I have learned more from this forum over the past few days than all the seminars or dr.'s visits. But, I do have a question about the fills that I'm confused about. Okay, I completely understand the fills, and sort of understand the unfills. So, do you get an "unfill" when you are losing too much or feel too restricted right? But, I've also read where some people are getting an unfill and then a fill on the same day, I don't understand that at all. Is each fill like starting all over again? You have to take it out before you put any back in?? I've done research to try to find the answer before posting, but I can't find anything about that. Please...could someone "fill" me in??

    Help....Question About Fills & Unfills

Thank you luzin susan & shortgal for your help, that does answer my question. That makes sense too that they would unfill you to check the amount for leaks & stuff. Has anyone ever had them miss your port? That scares me a little. Thanks again for your help! This forum is awesome!
  4. Just wanted to say hello - I joined this forum yesterday, and I've already learned so much by reading some posts. I am just north of Charlotte, NC, I am married to a wonderful man, and we have two children together. I am a photographer, I specialize in engagements, weddings, family portraits & children. I started my lap-band journey in December of '08, signed up online, had my first appt. in January, and I'm almost done with all my pre-op stuff. I have 2 appts. (nutritionist & OB), and then I'll be in the insurance Que lineup. I did just find out that if I'm approved, my insurance (UHC) will cover me 100%! Very excited about that. Okay, I love to talk, but I'll shut up for now, just wanted to say hello, and I look forward to learning so much and meeting new people. Anyone from NC or close by??

    Hello...Newbie From NC!

:biggrin2: Hi Sunshynne! You're pretty close to me ~ Salisbury here. Dr. Bauman is also doing my surgery, the date hasn't been set though. My nutritionist appt. is this Thursday, and that is the last thing from my "to do list". Thank goodness! I actually do have a question, if you don't mind. What kind of pre-surgery diet did he put you on? I've heard some people say different things. I really want to start doing some things before my surgery to get used to it. Goodluck to you on your journey as well ~ keep me posted on how things are going!

    Hello...Newbie From NC!

Hi Daisydog ~ I'm in Salisbury, NC ~ where are you? Dr. Roc Bauman from Carolina Weight Loss Surgery Center in Concord is doing mine. I started looking into it around September, talked to my MD about it, got his approval, and in November, I went online to sign up (you can't call there to make the appt. , you have to sign up online first, then they'll send you an email letting you know it's time to set up the appt.) So anyway, I just found out that if my insurance (United Healthcare) approves me for the surgery based on my medical problems & history, then they will cover me 100% (minus office visit copays). You can actually call your insurace company and they should be able to tell you upfront what they cover on obesity surgery. Just ask for the benefits dept. Goodluck to you!
  7. :biggrin2: Hey ggb64! Congratulations on getting the band ~ I hope everything is going great for you, and continues to go well. I am waiting for my info. to be submitted for ins. approval and I can't wait. Did you have any problems at all? What was the worst part of it, if you don't mind me asking. By the way, I am in Salisbury, NC, where are you in NC? Well, welcome to the forum & you'll have to keep us posted on your progress.

    Hello...Newbie From NC!

Hi Kathy 1991 - I'll be so glad when I have my surgery date! Sorry, I'm not familiar with the pre-band diet? What is that? I'm still eating normal - been trying to cut back a lot, and I'm trying really hard to not drink liquids while I'm eating - that part I don't really like too much. I have one Dr. that isn't cooperating with me, an old Dr. that I need to transfer my weight records to my surgeon, and they will not return my call. Guess I'm going to have to give them a little visit. :mad2: Thanks so much for your kind welcome and I'll keep everyone posted on my progress!

    Hello...Newbie From NC!

Hi Sunsett ~ I am actually in Salisbury, so yea, you're pretty close to me. My Doctor is Roc Bauman in Concord. Thanks for the welcome - I'm super excited to get the band, seems like it's taking forever to get everything done, but I keep thinking, you know, each month I'm more ahead than I was last month. I just really want to have it done by summer!
