    Depression and Hormones

I am 57, 9 months post surgery, gastric bypass. My emotional reactions are definitely different. I am far quicker to anger, but as someone who previously struggled with depression, I see anger (with cause) as a very positive step. It means I am not internalizing every negative emotion and accepting blame for every little thing that doesn't go as planned. The trick is relearning healthy and appropriate ways to express those emotions. I am happy as hell to work through it instead of holding onto those negative feelings. I started going through menopause about the same time as my surgery, so I really cant know how much is hormonal vs increased confidence and body image.
  2. I'm 57, 6 months post op and down 60 pounds since the surgery, with 40 pounds lost pre-surgery. Most of that weight loss was in the first two months. Since that time it is a slow and steady 5 lbs a month. I have to keep focusing on the healthy habits and activity levels. The surgery has helped, but it does still take work.

    Depression and Hormones

I seemed to start menopause as I started to lose weight pre surgery. I'm 57 so I was waiting for it to happen and perhaps all the extra weight was delaying it. In the last few months, I've noticed the hot flashes are coming fast and furious all the time....every day.
  4. I'm 57 and 6 months post op. I'm down 95 pounds. I lost 50 pounds before the surgery and another 45 since. Slow and steady now, but I know I should exercise more. Now that I'm much smaller, I've got more energy and not feeling I need to restrict activities because of my size. My plan is to start training to run a 5k (and then 10k). Also thinking about tap dancing??
