I'm going to suggest against isopure unflavored. It's repulsive. Adds a very odd taste to things. I have a big $50 tub of it just sitting at my house collecting dust now. It's terrible. I tried mixing it with sugar free pudding and it totally changed the flavor of the pudding. It's up to you to try obviously! I'm just saying in my experience, it is not good. -

Did you have GP to help treat your gastroparesis?
hannah_621 replied to smooshycheeks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not quite to a full diet yet so I'll know better on my trigger foods in September perhaps. I have noticed a difference in bowel movements though! I was deathly afraid to be off of one of my medications because life was awful without it. I would be going to the bathroom sometimes up to 17 times a day. Even without that medication now, my BM's are more stabilized for the most part. I still have random bouts but I think that's my intestines still getting used to everything. -

Hi Joann! You were right! They just wanted to see that I could commit to the healthier lifestyle long term. I got the approval from my bariatric doctor to see the surgeon and she's writing my letter to my insurance company. I'm anxious but glad things are moving forward! I did weigh in about 4-5 lbs short of my true goal but I overall had lost over 30 pounds so I'm at least pleased with that. I think the liver shrink diet will help me a lot too whenever I get to that point. In the meantime I'm just going to keep at it as if I have more deadlines! It's nice to see my pants loose already lol

Thank you so much for your reply! It truly helped put things into a better perspective for me. [emoji18] I was so worried about losing exactly what would be 10% of my weight that I started weighing myself frequently to see which days were better days as far as my weight versus the things I had eaten and drank even while maintaining my calorie limit. Congratulations on your surgery!! That's actually my birthday so I'll be sending you the best positive vibes!! I received good news today and my doctor said she was sending me to meet with the surgeon and writing my letter to insurance! I got a call from the surgery scheduler right after I left and I meet with the surgeon on 6/27! I'm just going to keep moving right along and anxiously waiting! Good luck with your surgery let us all know how it goes!

So tomorrow I go to see my bariatric doctor.. I am pretty freaking nervous. I've completed every step so far to get to the point of surgery. I've been working hard, monitoring my eating. It never fails though, every Monday, I am heavier than I was the past Friday. I had a requirement of losing 10% of my highest weight. Currently I'm at 31 of 38 pounds lost. I am really happy about the progress I've made but at the same time I'm frustrated that this keeps happening. Friday I was 1 pound away from goal and seemingly "gained" 7 pounds over the weekend (which I know isn't a true realistic gain either). I'm stressing out a lot and working out even harder, limiting my calorie intake and pushing water like crazy. I'm going to be pretty disappointed to work so hard and not meet goal (and also thinking maybe if my appointment were Friday I'd be in luck since by Friday I usually have lost whatever I gained from the weekend.) I'm sorry if I sound like I'm whining I just needed to vent. It's been a long process for me starting in June 2015 and through insurance hurdles, job changes, weight gain to weight loss, I just am anxious to keep moving forward to a better life, just to be stuck at 8 pounds to go (the 7 I "gained" plus the 1 I still needed to lose as of last Friday!) before I can move forward any farther. I'm irritated with myself because I believe I always had the opportunity to do better or work harder.

17 years post-op & WTF??
hannah_621 replied to TwinMama's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can't answer #1 since I'm pre-op but I can definitely answer #2. ABSOLUTELY!! [emoji5] Anyone out there like myself that is getting closer to surgery and feeling a little anxious.. I would love to hear stories of how your surgery went, emotions you've felt, everything!! I feel like a lot of the things I end up choosing to read (sometimes by accident!) just turn out to be straight horror stories!! -
Hi Kristin! That's who I'm going through! I just was cleared by everyone and have a little more weight to lose before seeing the surgeon! Good luck!! Please keep in touch and any questions I'll try to help with! It's a tough journey but worth it!! ☺️

That is a small world!!! I'm glad to hear everything is going well! I'm going through Geisinger currently and meet with the surgeon on 4/17. I can definitely see missing carbs! Do they have you taking any stool softeners or anything for that? I bet it's uncomfortable for sure.

I'm pre-op currently! I used to work in state college for Mount Nittany. I live like 35 minutes away in a super small town closer to philipsburg. End up in state college all the time though!

CHOLESTYRAMINE for dumping syndrome??
hannah_621 replied to nomofat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi, I don't take it for dumping syndrome per se but I take it for gastroparesis. (Haven't had surgery yet, though you can have dumping syndrome with gastroparesis and I've started to suspect that was what was going on). My insurance covers it. It's really an acquired taste to be honest. I can't mix it with plain water except if I have no other options then I have to literally choke it down.. some have an orangish flavoring to them and are overly sweet, some are not so noticeable. I get sent whichever brand the pharmacy has so I have also had prevalite and another kind too. -

Did you ever find out about Gastroparesis? I have had that condition for a few years now and my GI docs all are pointing at using bypass as a way to help decrease the symptoms. I hope you've gotten to feeling better. This terrifies me honestly!
-
Wow! Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear you're doing so much better! This is probably the best information I've read so seriously, thank you! My provider has been pushing toward the bypass but then I read some negative things (which essentially there will always be negative with any procedure so I'm not sure why I even dwell!) and it made me really anxious and nervous. I can read however many studies and get feedback from doctors but it's not the same as the peace of mind I get from someone who actually went through it! I'm so glad to hear it was a success and all worked out so well for you!! [emoji5]

Hi all! Gastroparesis patient.. considering bypass or sleeve. I was wondering if you all had bypass or the sleeve and what you felt was the most challenging? I have idiopathic gastroparesis and I think I'm fairly stable with occasional flares but also can't take reglan either due to side effects. I was told that having surgery could help "cure" my gastroparesis. Any insight is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!
