    Is Dumping Syndrome Common

I wish the medical and media would be honest and tell people that you will be able to eat everything again. I gained 25 pounds the first year prior to surgery cause I ate everything thinking I'd never eat pizza or ice cream again! It was so stupid of me LOL

    Is Dumping Syndrome Common

I had RNY gastric bypass and dumped the first year if i ate anything high in sugar. Your body eventually adapts after a year you can eat sweets without dumping. Some people continue to dump but they are usually the ones who have very strict diets so their intestines don't adjust to sugar. If you slowly incorporate sugar back into your diet you will likely not dump after a year. I'm coming up on 2 years and can eat sweets. Actually dumping can be a benefit the first year cause it keeps you on track. I once dumped from having cocktail sauce with shrimp! After the honeymoon period ends around 10 months you can gain weight by eating too many sugars and carbs. Best to keep them out of your diet as long as you can.

    Skin removal

I'm coming up on 2 years post op and am thinking about it for next year. It's very expensive! I want to get my arms and legs done. My stomach could use it but it doesn't bother me much.

Nausea - when will it go away?

You might need medication for a short term to stop the nausea. From my experience I was very nauseated the first 3 days and had to go on medication and it cleared up in a day. After that no issue just occasional Nausea. I find peppermint tea a big help.

    Hot flashes

Could it be possible that you've started menopause? Hot flashes not normally due to gastric bypass from my experience.

    NSV!!

    Excellent!!
  7. Glad surgery went well! Sorry I didn't have any tubes or drains post surgery.

    Abdominal discomfort

Yes if you overate it can take some time to move through your system especially if you have a blockage in bowels. Take some senna tablets and drink lots of water and stay away from solids until things move. Peppermint tea is also good to try. If that doesn't help after a day best to contact dr.
  9. It's only the first year that your eating is very restricted ...slowly over time your stomach will stretch and you'll be eating with people and it won't be an issue. I'm just returning from a girls weekend and no one could tell that I had the surgery by my eating and drinking. But I do eat and drink less but it's not obvious - probably I've probably gained a couple of pounds this weekend but I'll just diet next week and up my exercise and the pounds will be gone...much easier then the initial 140 pounds gone!
  10. It's a very exciting time! Congrats on your new journey and tool for losing and keeping weight off. 1 - take gas-x strips for gas pains (bring to hospital) 2 - drink protein shakes the first year even if u hate them 3 - take your vitamins and supplements; kefir and triphala good for digestion, collagen/biotin for skin 4 - follow eating plan religiously the first 6 months - don't rush solids 5 - don't rush bringing back simple carbs like bread crackers, junk food back in your diet - take this time to start eating healthy foods. 6 - exercise daily it will help increase your metabolism for maintenance 7 - do not weigh yourself daily do it once a week - but do it forever! So those pounds don't creep back. 8 - don't drink pop and don't drink with meals have sips (I found this the hardest) still practice it though 9 - don't graze stick to basics 3 meals 2 snacks 10 - chill and enjoy the process - don't obsess and feel like a victim embrace this time to heal yourself from obesity. You basically have 1 year to lose the majority of your weight...use it! And wishing you both all the best!

    Had Surgery on Monday

Didn't have pain when got home after 4 days at hospital post surgery...just walk as much as u can it takes awhile to build up strength. I started with like 10 minutes a few times a day and then worked up slowly to an hour. Walking is a great healer but don't push yourself...baby steps. Make sure you get your protein and vitamins daily.

How much time in the hospital?

4 days .. couldn't keep anything down the first 3 so had to stay an extra day to ensure could drink liquids and not vomit

    Breads Products!

Have to agree when first trying to lose weight wheat products slow down the process. If you want to maintain start eating simple carbs crackers, breads, bagels, rice, pasta if you're trying to lose stay away from them but I still lost weight eating potatoes. It's just wheat that seems to slow my weight loss. I'm close to my goal so I sometimes have wheat products. I started eating bread at 9 months post op but it wasn't a daily thing.

    Need Encouragement! -pre op diet

Honestly the 3 weeks pre-op diet were the worse for me. I had a hard time sticking to it but I tried my best and my liver was small enough for my surgery and it all went well. I only lost 6 pounds those 3 weeks and I was hungry grumpy and dehydrated...the worst! After surgery much easier to diet as hunger gone for months. The pre-op diet for me was optifast which is a meal replacement shake.

    Things I didn't know or realize pre-op...

Be careful with pop my nutritionist says it will slowly stretch your stomach over time if you go back to carbonated drinks.I've always found the not drinking while eating very difficult...but it does make me feel full sooner if I don't drink and eat. Socially the first year when eating at restaurants I would just get an appetizer and I started having wine around 9 months. As for soup...I eat that all the time not sure why that's an issue. Most things that seem an issue the first year all fade away eventually. But vitamins and protein so important to keep up! I ended up with a vitamin D deficiency at 6 months post op cause I got lazy with vitamins. It caused me a lot of lower back pain until I got my vitamin D levels back to normal.

    Goal Weight Reached!

    Congratulations!! You look great!

    Another post about stalls!!

Honestly if you want to slow hair loss then ensure you're getting at least 60 grams of protein a day which is hard to do so protein shakes are the best way. You can't eat enough the first year to get all your protein requirements. And if your weight loss is stalling cut out simple carbs - bread crackers potatoes rice and junk food.

    Is Quinoa okay after RNY?

Did you have a sleeve or RNY? I had RNY...most things I'm good with but quinoa ouh!! Just to heavy for me to digest.
  19. blondie66

    Starbucks Anyone?

Sorry misread your post! Yep Starbucks pricey!! When I go I normally get vanilla latte or blonde roast ...my daughter used to work at Starbucks and I asked her about fraps and they are not carbonated. My personal preference is to try and stay away from sweeteners unless stevia. I've read they're very unhealthy. Better to have sugar but then the calories would be astronomical!!
  20. blondie66

    Starbucks Anyone?

You won't be drinking anything venti the first year! Don't be disappointed that it may take u about about 3 months before you can have Starbucks even sugar free without dumping
  21. blondie66

    Having problems eating

Depends what I'm eating at 6 months I could not eat much of anything especially protein such as a chicken breast or hamburger. No pain I would just be full.
  22. blondie66

    Is Quinoa okay after RNY?

Wow never is a long time!! Lol whatever works for you. I'm 2 years post op so can eat most things but rice very filling and quinoa hurts my stomach so I never eat it. But rice and bread, crackers all those simple carbs slow down weight loss best to wait till close or at goal to maintain.
  23. blondie66

    Breads Products!

Wow that's a lot of running!! You must be in amazing shape. Good for you finding what works for you and maintaining for 3 years!
  24. blondie66

    Already met with the surgeon.

Oh you're so young and beautiful you're gonna have great results!! And keep off the smoking it slows healing...sorry for nagging
  25. I remember being overwhelmed trying to figure out what I could eat... then realizing just to chill and try to enjoy the journey. If you take vitamins and protein your energy will be good..I think it's important to be gentle with ourselves when we're healing. Thinking back now it seems like an interesting time with the weight melting off of me and just completely absorbed in my diet and new lifestyle...I did read a couple of books from people who had a bypass which I think helped with my expectations of the experience.
