Anyone NOT require panniculectmy?
blondie66 replied to AZBlackhawk's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes I don't need one. My lose skin is more in my arms. It really depends how you heal and where you carry your weight. The good thing with that type of surgery it can be covered in some instances by insurance where my arms and legs are not covered. -

First and last experience with dumping
blondie66 replied to dennisdj's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Remember to eat slow and do not drink anything with meals that can cause dumping in early stages. Just take it slow and try smaller portion in a few days and make sure sugar content per serving is below 20 grams. -

So sorry to hear! Hopefully in a few days as your stomach calms down so will the nausea. I was on an IV for a day the Drs said they were bringing out the tough meds - had no idea what it was but stopped the nausea and then I took a pill daily for 3 months. Try and get the protein shakes in I used premier protein ready made shakes. Don't rush solids. I still have peppermint tea at times to help when queasy.

Did the protein shakes that made u sick have sucralose? I couldn't stomach the first year. Atkins shakes have it and it would make me dump. -

Holy Dumping Syndrome, Batman!
blondie66 replied to mrsroyale's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It happens quickly with dumping... the cramping and then needing to go to bathroom. I'd say within 15 mins of eating or drinking something high in sugar. I never had it from too fatty a food but from high sugar and also sucralose was worse and that is a sweetener. -
Me too and lotsa protein shakes at least 60 grams the first year...cause I couldn't stomach much protein from food sources.
-
The first year and a half I had premier protein shakes at 30 grams of protein two of them a day got my requirements in..I had them on ice or very cold then they tasted better.
-
Yep that's normal - weigh yourself once a week the same day at same time. That is your weight for the week. If you're not down then cut out snacking and the following week see if you're down. If still not down cut out carbs...it's a journey and your weight will fluctuate daily. And of course exercise at least 30 mins daily.

Congrats!! It is pretty amazing feeling [emoji2]

Is Dumping Syndrome Common
blondie66 replied to Barbara1972's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Wow it sounds like a lot of people don't dump!! That's great! I did probably about 5 times my first year...the worst was from having 2 coolers - just too high in sugar at 11 months...it was painful and running to bathroom. I still will only drink 1 cooler not sure if I would dump but I don't wanna test it!! I agree it does take awhile to learn what your body can tolerate...Now I sometimes test it (other then coolers) and nothing seems to make me dump. -

One week post op: Diarrhea
blondie66 replied to dksibray531's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yeah kefir a great alternative cause you don't have to have another tablet to chew or try to swallow. And even people who are lactose intolerant normally can have it. You're still very early says concentrate more on the protein shakes to help with your healing....food will come. -

That's a lot of dumping!! I guess it's how we heal but in time it should not be as frequent. Sometimes it takes awhile to adjust to foods and some foods will make u dump and then try a month later and ur fine. -
Is Dumping Syndrome Common
blondie66 replied to Barbara1972's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes vomiting can happen from eating too fast or too much especially protein cause it is more dense in the stomach. Dumping is dropping food quickly through the intestines due to high sugar levels in a drink or food. It is possible to never dump if you keep your sugar levels low. Your stomach is going to start to slowly stretch and around a year you will notice an increase in food volume and a reduction in vomiting. At almost 18 months post upI just started being able to eat more protein. Normally need protein shakes and bars to get my 60 grams of protein in a day. I'm slowly converting to fish and shakes as my protein sources as I don't enjoy chicken and beef as much...but I can now eat a steak at almost 2 years post op.
