    No dumping---but a "stuck" feeling?

And 30 pounds weight loss is great! My experience was 10 - 15 pounds a month the first 9 months and then it slows down.

    No dumping---but a "stuck" feeling?

Eat something with sugar over 25 grams and you'll experience dumping. The stuck feeling is the over stuffed feeling you get from eating protein such as steak and eggs. I couldn't stomach them at 9 weeks out. And now 19 months post up can eat very little protein...but I have lotsa of energy feel great and have lost over 130 pounds. I used protein shakes at 9 weeks out to meet my protein requirements.
  3. Don't think about that! Think about the positive and your new journey to great health and smaller sizes and great clothes!

    People Are Hating

My experience is not to tell people cause you will get judged. Obesity is a disease and sometimes as with heart disease surgery is required...some people can treat their disease with diet but sometimes surgery is required to help the body release extra weight. Do what is right for you. You will be eating normal after a year. Take the opportunity to lose the weight in the one year and improve your health.

    Feeling Discouraged..

Eat more and stop dieting...I know strange advice but you're 3 months post op and that's considered the honeymoon phase. U can eat and it'll start things moving. Also you need to exercise 30 mins daily. Counting calories and avoiding carbs will come. At 3 months u can't eat much of anything do eat what u can 3 meals and 2 snacks but eating too few of calories can slow it down.

    Contempt

Does anyone else experience contempt from others about their weight loss? I get so tired of some friends and family saying the only reason I lost weight is the surgery. They look at me with contempt when I say I'm dieting and exercising. They act like I took the easy way out by surgery. I have a family member who likes to remind me that I'd weigh 400 pounds now if i didn't have the surgery...wth!! I exercise 5 times a week and have been since 4 months post op and I eat fairly healthy nothing too strict but I watch what I eat during week so I can take a break on weekends. I'm slowly losing my last 10 pounds. But I hate people rolling their eyes at me and making snide comments...I know it's their issue and I have to not let it but me but I wish I hadn't said anything to people and just said I was getting gallbladder surgery! Especially now I'm a size 10 on way to an 8 far from my size 22.

    Painful to drink water

I didn't drink much water during the first 4 months. I'd sip my Protein shakes on ice to get water.

First day back to work SD 3/6/17

I would contact dr if having pain. The only pain I had was gas pains for 3 days after surgery...which walking and gasex helped. Other then that no pain once out of hospital. Maybe because I had laparoscopic surgery. If u have a large incision that would be painful. I took extra strength Tylenol when I had my hysterectomy which was a larger incision. I didn't use a compression garment. If u have a large incision remember to rest when it starts to hurt. That's a sign to rest. Too bad you have to go back so soon! I took 6 weeks off work. Four weeks would have been sufficient.
  11. I initially wanted sleeve cause worried about the malabsorption aspect of the surgery. My surgeon said I was too big for sleeve. I'm glad I followed his advise I've lost 130 pounds and am a healthy bmi ...I want to lose 10 more. I have colleagues that have had bariatric surgery all the ones who had RNY gastric bypass lost and maintained their weight loss the sleeves didn't lose all the weight and gained some back. Not sure why...if my bmi had been lower I certainly would have done the sleeve but I'm very happy with gastric bypass results and honestly 19 months later the only thing I have to maintain is the vitamins. I don't dump and only vomit if I eat too fast or too much at one time. I have to be careful with solid proteins.

    Making the Decision

Good luck! Surgery is always a little scary but it's worth it. I've lost 130 pounds in about 16 months the surgery was the only way for me to lose weight. My body was so messed up I exercised 3 to 4 times a week but couldn't lose weight cause hormones and hunger levels a mess. I did optifast for 3 weeks and lose 4 pounds...I was starving. I was pre diabetic and my levels are now all good and I'm at top of bmi range and want to lose about 10 more. Stay positive! All the best

    Not Losing Weight

Nutritionist advised 60 grams of protein a day which was two premier protein shakes. Didn't count carbs but kept sugar low. The first few months you're eating so little you have to make sure you're eating enough but u won't be eating bread pasta or rice they don't fell good in stomach. I eat carbs but avoid gluten on most days except for special occasions...so no bread pasta crackers cookies

    Contempt

Interesting points thanks for the feedback!! And I agree the surgery saved me I wasn't able to lose weight without it but it's a tool anyone past 1 year post op knows the weight can come back if we don't exercise and watch portions. Obesity is a disease and people need to realize that...it's like being rude to someone cause they have diabetes or heart disease. Part of these diseases are genetic and part are lifestyle just like obesity.

    Gaining it back?

I think the weight can start to climb back from bad eating habits and lack of exercise. It's just a tool to lose the excess weight and it will come back if people resort to their old eating habits. I'm about 10 pounds from goal and I have to diet to get where I am now the surgery helps but I could graze and snack on carbs all day and the weight would come back. I'm 19 months post op and don't dump anymore and rarely vomit unless I eat too much. I'm happy I did the surgery I couldn't have lost the 130 pounds I have so far without it...but it's not a cure for Obesity if people go back to their old ways of eating.

    You look amazing!! Great job
  18. Did you have your surgery?
  19. blondie66

    Just received my bill.

That's crazy expensive! I'm from Canada and I paid for parking lol...okay I know annoying [emoji4] but I did have to do 10 months of pre-op seeing nutritionists, surgeon, social workers, ecterra... it was a lot of appointments. And my taxes pay for health care so I'm paying lots!
  20. Eat less and exercising more which is true that's what i say. I can't believe what some people will say they can be so rude! But I didn't have hair noticeable loss that one would be harder to explain. But you look great! All that matters is your truth no one else's business.

    What would you do differently?

What would I have done differently ? Had surgery sooner, don't tell anyone except for like bff or close family...even then it can come back on you! I would have dry skin brushed more and used vitamin e and coconut oil right away. Also I would have not introduced sugar back in my diet. Good luck with surgery!! All the best

    After I Eat (sadface)

I used to live on premier protein shakes with ice. At 8 weeks post op u can slowly start adding in regular solid foods if they cause u to dump hold off and try again in 2 - 4 weeks. Start with a very small portion. Your body just needs time to adjust. I couldn't eat a salad till after 1 year post op. It does get easier in time!! Also I eat yogurt all the time just make sure sugar is not high.
  23. blondie66

15 months post op. How much do you eat?

I'm 19 months post op and i can eat a lot and pretty much everything! It scares me sometimes...I thought I'd never be able to eat the same again after surgery but I can...less of everything but still can overeat. If I stick to protein I'm okay I get full quicker but I have to be careful not to graze. I'd like to lose about 10 more pounds but it's a struggle cause I'm slipping back to bad habits such as snacking and eating too many carbs. I gained 6 pounds at Christmas but have since lost. As they say the surgery is a tool. For the first 9 months I could eat anything and lose weight...You've done great with your weight loss!

    After I Eat (sadface)

That's dumping! Make sure you're not eating too much sugar or carbs at one meal or drinking anything with your meal. Drink 30 mins after...dumping will go away eventually I'm 19 months post op and little makes me dump....sometimes wish I still did lol
