Only 37 pounds in 4 months- what am I doing wrong? Please help-
blondie66 replied to Finding Erika's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 4 months out that's a lot of food and fluids. My experience I could only eat about 1 or 3 bites of protein at 4 months. Mainly had protein shakes and bars. My experience around 10 pounds a month for first year some months more some less. Weight loss started to slow around 9 months. I was never able to get a lot of fluid in until I was a year out from surgery. Make sure you're drinking 30 mins after your meal and stick to 3 meals 2 small snacks. Also vitamin D helps and cutting back on carbs. -
Wow u look great!

Bagels with butter, cheese biscuits lotsa carbs. I can't eat much Protein but I drink Protein shakes and eat Protein Bars to get my requirements. Have a carb every 2 - 3 hours graze during the day don't worry having 3 meals. Have about 6 meals instead and have carbs and fat....yogurts is good and dark chocolate and get protein from shakes and bars.

I'm coming up on 2 years post op and the time that I've had foul smelling farts and BM is when overeating especially sugar and fat. Is there anyway you're eating crappy foods. And I've never heard of having undigested food causing issues. I also take a supplement called Triphala and it's good for digestion but if you overeat sugar or drink sugar full drinks your farts will stink!! Cause your body is dumping sugar. If you're still early in healing process under 5 months then it can just be the healing process but still avoid junk food.

Good advice! The main thing that is helping me keep my weight off is exercise. Most days 35 mins on trampoline, light weights and walking. I still have 10 I want to lose but it's cosmetic. I feel very healthy and energetic now at 51 can run up 3 flights of stairs no heaving breathing or leg pain like 2 years ago. The emotional and just bad habit boredom eating doesn't go away. I ate a box of girl guide cookies yesterday!! Snacking during the course of the day...ugh! But It's not a daily occurrence and I'm gonna hike today so it balances out. But the struggle is real!! The surgery gets off the dangerous obesity weight but we have to work to keep it off and bad habits come back. -
I've taken Buckley day and night capsules and oregano oil capsules zinc with food and extra vitamin c when get colds

Yes I had a hernia removed that was discovered during surgery. I stayed an extra day in hospital cause I was very drained an nauseated from surgery. The Drs had to give me extra anti nausea meds but on fourth day sent home and healed well. I followed the same diet plan as other gastric bypass patients. I had no pain except for gas pains which stopped after three days

I was told the same regarding protein but I'm 19 months post op and still can't eat a chicken breast or steak ...but fish is good. I'm happy to eat 3 ounces of protein but I still use protein shakes and bars to get my protein requirements. -
At what point did your weightloss come to a hault?
blondie66 replied to Thecloude1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Another post mentioned going back to shakes for 2 weeks for meals and then 2 weeks of shakes for breakfast and lunch and a protein and veg dinner...thinking that would reset a pouch! -
I think the pain factor depends if you have laparoscopic surgery or a large incision. Also of course any additional surgery such as removing a hernia can increase healing time and pain and of course post op care all contribute to pain levels. The gas pains suck!! But they were gone after 3 days for me. I had laparoscopic surgery so no pain but I did rest and take it easy and gave my body time to heal and started slow walks building distance every day to help with healing. Didn't need pain killers. But it took about 4 weeks to start feeling human again. But that has been my experience anytime I go under general anesthetic.

I had the gastric bypass done a few days ago.

I had gas pains and took gas-x tabs that go on your tongue which helped. They went away after the 3rd day other then that no pain. It's best to go to hospital if in pain or call Drs office see what they recommend. -
I need help to get back in track

I think that is a very good idea! I'm gonna start that on Monday. -
Really good advice Gail! Unfortunately I didn't do the same. I haven't gained but my eating is not always the best and I'm still trying to lose 10 - 15 pounds. I'm getting there slowly but I live in fear of gaining and know I have to smarten up with my eating. My working out is consistent I'm okay that way. I don't want to waste this incredible opportunity I've worked so hard on. I've lost 130 pounds.

Feel like I'm losing my ever-loving mind
blondie66 replied to austrolatrishy's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You'll be stuffing your face in a year so use this time to lose the weight and develop a healthy relationship with food. You're concentrating on what's lacking in your life instead of concentrating on taking this opportunity to embrace the chance to change your body and health. Good luck! This could be one of the best opportunities if you embrace it! Btw its head hunger u physically won't feel hunger till approximately 6 months. -

Surgeon and hospital care was great! Surgeon arrogant but my experience is they normally are..but as long as they do a good job and all parts in order I'm happy..nurses and doctors make up for bed side manner lacking in surgeon. -

If you have a large incision you could have pain for a few weeks. Rest up when u feel pain at incision. I had laparoscopic surgery so no large incision and very little pain. I would think that there must be another way for you to take your meds for your mental health. Not sure but there must be something that is small or quick dissolving. As for eating solids it took me 8 weeks. And even then it was a very slow process from liquid to solids. But worth it I feel so much better and healthier. -

You look great! Thanks for your story! I'm two years in August and the honeymoon period was the best! It's journey one day at a time..u can do it! -
Depending how long post op... but if u eat fried foods for first 6 - 9 months you'll probably vomit or dump. After that u can start eating them I've had fish and chips, hamburgers, chicken wings, French fries ... just can't eat much a few bites is filling.

At what point did your weightloss come to a hault?
blondie66 replied to Thecloude1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
9 months I noticed it slowed and then started again. At 15 months post op I gained 6 pounds all my fault eating too many carbs and junk. Now to lose weight I have to stick to the basics and diet and exercise keep it no gluten works best for me. I have to eat carbs cause I can't tolerate eating much protein. -
Watch to make sure you're not grazing... But you're actually doing good 10 pounds a month is reasonable. Make sure you're eating enough protein... least 60 grams a day even if u need to use shakes and protein bars.

Getting cold feet all of a sudden
blondie66 replied to deflationinprogress's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It's perfectly normal to have second thoughts! But don't read all the horror stories!! It'll just freak u out. You need the surgery to get control of your eating and improve your quality of life. Good luck! The surgery is worth it from my experience. -

At about 8 or 9 months the honeymoon period is over and u have to start watching what u eat. Go back to basics and exercise. Good luck! I gained 6 pounds at Xmas eating lotsa junk. I've lost it and am continuing to lose. Had to go back to basics and cut out grazing!
