  1. RNY here....i noticed a decline in dumping at 19 months. Now I very rarely dump. If I dump it's not from sugar but from Sucralose which can be found in some sugar free foods. I dumped from sugar free cookies but I can eat normal sugar cookies. I could probably not eat a full slice of chocolate cake but I can have a few bites. Not cause of dumping but because it just wouldn't feel good in stomach too much sugar and fat.
  2. I remember at 1 year post op I could eat maybe 2 or 3 wings it was embarrassing so I learned to share an appetizer with peeps get nachos and eat what u can...most people lose track what you're eating as long as they get their share. I still get comments ..like oh you're eating more today look u ate almost all your sandwich...then I wait an hour and have dessert just to piss them off lol...I think u must be in early days from your surgery...if you're getting too skinny start lifting more weights and add carbs. It's about finding balance in life. You won't be able to drink the same amount as before. What I do is 1 glass of wine then water and keep doing that. People honestly will get over your surgery. You're still the same guy start looking at the positive and maybe make new friends. I did that...kept my old but also made new ones. What you're experiencing will pass just stay positive and create the life you want.

    had my surgery today!

Congratulations on your surgery and new life!! It's very early days for you, concentrate on healing and following Nutritionist's directions. More then likely in a year you'll be able to eat lasagna and pizza...steak might be an issue but eventually you'll be able to eat that too. Take the first year to lose as much as you can all those other foods you'll be eating again. This surgery is an opportunity not a curse. I'm almost 2 years post up I've surpassed my doctors goal...and I eat pizza and lasagna and can eat about 4 ounces of steak. I drink wine but avoid anything carbonated. Remember to get your protein shakes in and take your vitamins...all the best!

    Why am I not losing?

Just wanted to add weight training is great and I do some weights but I waited about 4 months I use light weights and do mini trampoline high intensity workout for 30 mins. Exercising has helped my metabolism which seems higher now. But still think while heavier walking is the best

    Not hungry, worried about protein

    When will I feel better

You're in a transitional and healing phase of the surgery. The first 12 weeks are all about what you are eating. Think of it as time you must give to healing your body. You will slowly get your normal life back and be with your family. I remember post op thinking my life will never be the same. Which is a load of crap! Take this opportunity to heal and lose weight in the 1st year. You're life will be back to normal in no time with all the good and bad things. But you will be healthier (take vitamins) have more energy you'll be running in backyard with your son. Putting on your size 10 sexy jeans while your hubby chases u around the house...trust me it's worth a little discomfort at the beginning.
  8. Yes less joint pain and improvement in veins. Make sure your vit D levels are good. I did have a few months post op when I had lower back pain but my D had dropped once I got it back to normal levels then pain disappeared.

    Not hungry, worried about protein

Strange how bodies are different I would dump with Atkins shakes now I'm okay but very sensitive to sucralose. Get the protein shakes in even if you don't like use the motivator of preventing your hair falling out!! You need 60 grams which is 2 premier protein shakes. I think Atkins are 15 grams not sure. This will pass but it's not an option with the protein just get it in! It will slow down your hair loss which you will see the effects at 5 to 6 months post op and will keep your metabolism going and help your body heal.
  10. I'm sorry you're feeling sad and left out of things going on around you. Since you've met your goal why can't you have a beer and wings? Maybe you're being too strict with your new lifestyle and stopping yourself from being involved in normal activities. If you don't like beer take the ladies out for some wine and share an appetizer. You don't need to be eating off the kids menu. You don't even need to talk about your surgery or what you can or can't eat...it's no ones business and most peeps don't care and it bores them especially once we reach our goals. Have you joined a gym? Get lifting some weights join a hiking, running club? cycling club? Buy a dog!! I meet lots of people at the dog park. Get out there! The surgery is a tool at almost 2 years post op most peeps wouldn't even know I've had it by what I eat. It's a tool but it doesn't have to control your life. You made the right decision for your health and you've done great! Get out create a new life make new friends. Good luck! Let go of worrying about what you are not eating and what people think and try adding in some food...if you find you gain some weight at your weekly weigh in then do 1 or 2 days of protein shakes and you'll lose it. It's about enjoying life and balancing out our food consumption not never eating socially again.

    Why am I not losing?

Hi there! If you're still on the soft food part just eat what you can...I know not much!! Cottage cheese and I used Premier shakes on ice. Just keep at it and walk as much as you can it honestly is the best exercise at the beginning. The weight will come off you're still very early in process. You will find you'll lose more later when you move into normal food. But don't rush it! It's all part of the process. Good luck!! I lost 150 pounds but it took just under 2 years...120 first year and rest slowly afterwards...basically 1/2 my body. Only weigh yourself once a week! Same day in morning don't become a slave to the scale and you will also find one day u think hey I feel slimmer and weigh yourself and you'll be down 5 pounds or your clothes are loser.

    Why am I not losing?

Drink more protein shakes and eat more. After the first 8 weeks u don't need to be eating 800 calories a day. Exercise 30 mins daily everyday. I didn't start lifting weights till 6 months post op but walked hour daily until was ready for aerobics at 4 months post op. Sometimes u have to eat more to get things moving. The honeymooon phase u can eat petty much anything and you'll either dump or vomit and won't gain weight. That will pass.

Winning the battle of excess skin ?

Agreed!! The health and energy and fitting into normal clothes is worth the lose skin.

    Fear

I had RNY also...I just didn't think about negatives kept positive. if you ruminate over fears it'll make u miserable. Embrace your decision and be positive. It's as safe as having your gallbladder taken out. Which is very common these days. If you're having laparoscopic surgery it's going to seem so easy compared to a c section!

    Liver shrink questions

I only lost 6 pounds on pre-op liquid diet. The fluids only gives the liver a break from processing food and therefore shrinks....just wanted to add in case you're like me and don't lose much on optifast...don't want u to worry that u won't qualify if u don't lose a lot of weight on optifast
  16. Congratulations on your weight loss! If anger is the way you're responding you have to figure out what thoughts you're thinking to make yourself angry and allowing you to treat people badly. It's the thoughts you're thinking that is making you angry. Change your thoughts and change your behaviour. Possibly you feel like you're missing out, possibly you feel you deserve better and it's making you resentful which is fuelling your anger. Losing weight is not synonymous with being angry. From my personal experience I have slightly less patience cause I'm not stuffing my feelings but I always ask myself what would be the most loving response. It's not always easy but worth it.
  17. blondie66

When does the weight loss begin?

You have to eat the protein shakes...i lived on Premier protein on ice little sips during the day...goal of 2 a day. Also follow the diet plan they give u.
  18. Okay I'll be honest I had 3 weeks pre op diet and I would sneak a sandwhich once in awhile I was so hungry and miserable! Now i don't recommend it you want to keep up the liquids and little solid food eating so your liver will be nice and small the day of surgery. Don't beat yourself up keep trying! It's awful and post op dieting is much easier.
  19. blondie66

    Presurgery diet

Honestly it's awful! Do what you can post op diet easier.
  20. blondie66

    Pre op diet

    Vitamins

B12 1000 mg 3 x a week the strips that dissolve on tongue are good.
  25. I wouldn't have lost 140 pounds without the surgery. It is a life adjustment for the first year and you'll need to diet and exercise if you want to lose all your weight and keep it off. But it is a wonderful tool. And I had no major issues but I followed program and took vitamins and protein shakes. I also did not have noticeable hair loss which I think is due to taking vitamins and protein shakes.
