No, I don't want no SCALE
NightPilgrim replied to NightPilgrim's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I knew this was going to happen... So after this discussion, I bought my scale. Was happy to discover 11 pounds lost in 11 days since surgery which blew my mind. Then the next day, another 2.5 pounds lost overnight. Wow but clearly unsustainable. Then today, (so much for only weekly weighing) I find I've gained 0.5 pounds since yesterday!! I know its only half a pound but suddenly am thinking...did I do something wrong? is this a flag? I'm 13 days out from surgery. I'm still only on full liquids and my diet is broth, soup (not cream soup, just regular ole veg soup), greek yogurt, some unsweetened apple sauce, 1 protein shake, and yesterday I also had 3x of these bariatric pal store protein products (1 soup , 1 fruit drink, 1 hot chocolate). Oh and a sh*t ton of water. Thats the only thing I did differently to the other days when maybe I only had 1 or 2 of the store bought protein products. I thought they would be helpful in getting protein in and staving off hunger... Realize that I now sound like the nutso saying this over half a pound... but the whole point of going down the scale route was to "listen to my body" to stay on track. Now I just want to make sure I understand what it's telling me. I keep repeating to myself... "This is a marathon not a sprint. Marathon not a sprint." -
No, I don't want no SCALE

I see what you're saying.... I've never weighed myself before and frankly have always been a bit 'head in the sand' about the workings of my body... so guess it could be good to start a new habit... I'm self pay so unlikely to have the regular doc's appointments to track progress So i guess the next question is.....anyone have any recommendations for good scales??? -
Also, for any others who might be struggling with the clear liquids phase....try (beef) Pho stock with a tiny bit of (chicken) boullion, its soooooo delicious!!

Howdy all, I was sleeved exactly a week ago tomorrow AM. My doc's post operative diet called for 10 days of Clear Liquids following surgery, but I am struggling a bit and really want to move on to the full liquids phase. I know some people move on at 7 days and I am jealous!! I had a low BMI at surgery (29) and physically I have had no issues since surgery whatsoever. I feel good. Back at work from home (though finding it hard to concentrate when I am only intaking very low calories), I'm walking the doggie a few miles a day, no acid, vomiting or nausea, already had some mini BMs. I do have a few incision twinges at surgery site but nothing major and the compression garment I'm wearing helps with those. I just really want something other than broth, juice and tea. That's literally all that is on the diet plan for the first 10 days. Broth, juice, tea. That's it. I'd just kill for some thicker Soups or greek yogurt, even a Protein shake... but don't want to defy doctors orders. Thing is, they just seemed to be his standard orders that he gives out to everyone, and not particularly tailored to me personally (sleeved in Mexico). I know three days more shouldn't be a big deal. I keep telling myself that. This is temporary. Im lucky that my partner has cooked me up delicious home made beef bone broth and chicken broth and I feel super grateful. Not sure if I am asking for approval or just moaning. I really want to stick to plan, but it's hard and this whole "I have no desire to eat" thing doesn't seem to be applying to me. The 10 day mark feels like an age away. Guessing its probably all in my head?? Other than that, feeling good!

Thanks for the support guys! I made it to 10 days with the assistance of a teeny spoonful of low fat greek yogurt when I was feeling at my most miserable. Feeling pleased that I pretty much stuck to the instructions and know that it has helped with my mindset for the future. Full liquids is going to feel like a total luxury now!

Dr Jaime Ponce De Leon and the single incision sleeve
NightPilgrim posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi there, I just put down a deposit via Mexico Bariatric Centre for the Single Incision Sleeve with Dr Ponce de leon. I had done a ton of research and was feeling confident in my choice of doctor until someone (admittedly a representative of a competing surgeon) contacted me to tell me that only Dr Ortiz and Dr Vazquez are qualified for the single incision procedure. This freaked me out a little. He wrote, and I quote: "Dr jaime ponce de leon and Dr Mario Almanza are known for high volume surgeries, but not necessarily for surgical excellence (Jaime trained Mario)... Just see how many Medical Tourism providers he's affiliated with and why. Also, Dr Ponce de Leon doesn't offer the same post-op care that you need (if at all) once you plateau post-op. Just my two cents." I know he's vying for my business so taking it with a pinch of salt, but would love some first hand knowledge. Have seen many positive reviews of Dr Ponce de Leon, and that he does a small pouch. There is, admittedly, limited aftercare offered. I'm a spanish speaker so not bothered by his lack of English. I know Dr M Almanza has had some bad press but hadn't seen anything similar for Dr Ponce de Leon. Anyone had experience with Dr Ponce de Leon, specifically with regards to the Single Incision procedure? Help please! Thanks! -

That's good to know. Don't suppose you know whether it was the single incision or regular procedure? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
