Mickie0130 replied to Karazona's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Four days from now?!? Where are you living that is already March 2nd? LoL. Cause here in Texas it's February 22nd [emoji6]. I did see a post for March surgeries. Not sure where though. [emoji846] Good luck on your surgery! -
Good luck Carol! You got this! Sending prayers your way! [emoji846]

Anyone else have problems with having cold feet after surgery? I'm 3 weeks post op and most of the time my feet are freezing. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
-
I don't know if you have insurance or not but when you leave AMA the insurance company can refuse to pay your bill and you can be charged. Don't know if anyone explained it to you. You need to stay long enough for them to help you. Getting mad and leaving is not doing you any good. Come Sunday if you still hadn't had a bowel movement chances are they would have kept you. Might want to purchase an over the counter enema. Sometimes obstructions can work themselves out. I wouldn't be so quick to have surgery. The goal is least invasive first. I don't think you're crazy but possibly a little rash on your decisions. I wish you the best.

Thank you so much for the replies. Other than the feet being cold off and on I'm doing well so I can't complain. I hope y'all are doing good as well. [emoji846]

Has anyone been tubed?
Mickie0130 replied to meridianlosing's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm an RN and I put NG tubes in my patients all the time and they are not asleep. We actually need your help when it is passing down the throat. You'll be asked to drink and swallow as it's being advanced. Putting patients asleep is not the norm for this procedure. Afterwards they may order a chest x-ray to double check placement is on the stomach and not lungs. -
Michelle...I'm so sorry to hear of all the complications you've had. That surgeon should be held responsible for his error. That's just horrible. I will keep you in my prayers.

Mine lasted about a week. Gas X was helpful. Still passing gas and I'm 3 weeks post-op.
-
No I had total opposite. My heart rate was in the 40's my whole time there and even at discharge. I was afraid they'd keep me and do a cardiac consultant but they didn't. Within the week everything was normal. I bet yours will even put too. Hang on there. [emoji846]

Intense Head Hunger Post op
Mickie0130 replied to sprkins2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It happens. You have to push through it. You really don't have a choice cause I guarantee one bite of anything you shouldn't have will cure that craving. I had two teaspoons of a Diet Cherry Limeade and the dumping syndrome I had was sooooo horrible. It serves as a great reminder. What you're going through will pass..especially when you get to the puréed part. I make full dinners for my family and doesn't bother me a bit. Only a couple of times I almost licked my fingers without thinking. LoL Hang in there..it gets better. -

I live in the Houston area and had my gastric by-pass at Memorial Herman 1-30-17.

Just received my bill.
Mickie0130 replied to Washington_girl's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
The sickening part is if you paid cash for the exact same procedure and same length of stay it would've only been between $20,000 - $30,000. That's how much hospitals inflate the bills to make an insane amount. I know cause I paid cash and my surgeon was the best in Houston. So seriously...it's a shame they even charge you that $1,000.... This is why the cost of insurance is so out of hand.. I know..I work in the industry. -
Foul smelling burps and vomit (feces)
Mickie0130 replied to Hector N Yolanda Asta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a nurse I know an obstruction is not to be taken lightly. Yes you are right about the feces smell. The vomit actually looks like feces. I wonder if they had an NG tube down you at all to help remove all the bile? Seems like your intestines are twisting for whatever reason. I feel horrible for you as this cannot be easy to deal with on top of your surgery as well. I do know the intestines can correct themselves on their own. I'm curious as to why the doctors feel this is happening? I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers! Hang in there. -
4 days post op, is this normal?
Mickie0130 replied to Jdewv75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very normal. 14 days post-op and I still pass gas quite often. -
Day 7 post op Very Hungry
Mickie0130 replied to snapy17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
14 days post-op and I've had the same problem. I find chewing sugar free gum and sugar free fruit bars to help a lot. Yes, I know they say don't chew gum because of swallowing it and it getting stuck. Well I'm a grown adult and have never swallowed gum unless I wanted too. I'm very careful and don't drink with it in my mouth. I swear the sensation of chewing has helped me tremendously! Good luck! Gastric bypass 1/30/17 -
9 days post-op and finally feeling a little better
Mickie0130 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum. I'm trying to learn how to setup a profile and other than a name that's all I seem to be able to do. Anyways...I had gastric bypass 1/30/2017... Went for my one week check up and I'm down 17 pounds since my surgery and have lost a total of 32 pounds in the last 3 weeks. Being on liquids for almost a month now has been a struggle but getting better. I find the mental side is harder to deal with right now than the physical side. It was a relieve to her from my nurse today that everything I've been experiencing is normal. It's a roller coaster but I'm hanging on. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Day 6 Post Op -Low energy?
Mickie0130 replied to snapy17's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes it's very normal. My first week home all I wanted to do was sleep. I'm now post-op day 12 and my energy is completely different. I can do things around the house, take kids where they want to go and most importantly not feel so tired. What's going to help your energy is your protein intake. At first I could barely get 20 grams. That too has changed. If you're not getting enough protein you'll feel sluggish. So try and stay on top of that. It does get better.. How soon did you return to work?
Mickie0130 replied to katlzxdcj's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm an RN and my surgery was 1/30. I told my surgeon I was taking for weeks off and he said I'd be fine to go back then. He knows I lift patients and such... [emoji846] Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

First post op appointment
Mickie0130 replied to Black2028's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't hit the puréed diet part yet. I still have 10 more days. I am soooo looking forward to it. My nutritionist said eggs are fine but for some reason if you scramble them patients tend not to do well with them. Doesn't know why and thinks possibly when you whip them they may have too much air in them? So she recommends cooking them a different way. As for me?...I'm looking forward to some Greek yogurt! ? -
Thomas that's awesome and congratulations! You are an inspiration to many and the fact that you share your story is bound to help someone else. I am gastric by-pass post-op 9 days and down 32 pounds. 17 since surgery. I too live in Texas! Been here almost 3 years and I love it! [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Protein intake, struggling
Mickie0130 replied to vsgbeauty13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been having the same problem. I can get to about 40 grams and that's it. Met with my nurse today at my first week post op and she said that's fine! The 60 gram a day intake is a guide line and to do what my body can handle. She also said when I move to puréed foods that will help. Yesterday I tried to get the full 60 and only made it to about 50 and had a major dumping episode in the middle of the night and I truly feel it was all the protein drink. Btw...I drink the same as you. [emoji846] Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
