Insurance won't cover
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to HethBo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There is a card that you can apply forit is called CARE CREDIT. It can be used for anything medical, even for your pets. It is another way to go maybe. Also, have your Baritaric Team send in all of the insurece papers. They usually have a person who does all of the insureance stuff and know exactly what they want or need. Just another way to go. Sorry you are having such a hard time!! Keep on trying, something will come and all will be GREAT!!!! -

Choosing a Protein
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to faithmel's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just typed down below that the BARIATRICPAL STORE sells GENEPRO!! If it was so bad do you think they would sell it to their customers. There has been many discussions on this. But...I have used it and I love it. I think you should first ask the people that run this program and ask them all about it. Sometimes people get carried away because they believe they are right so investagate please!! -

Navagating wilderness, I want to know if YOU know that BARIATRICPAL sells GENOPRO at their store. If it was not a good product don't you think they wouldn't be selling it. You have very strong opinions about this, I don't understand why. I wish you a happy day!! -

This Is So New
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to Bougie21's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hon most of what you are talking about is pretty well like it will be at first. If your puch hurts when you put anything in it PLEASE call your Surgeon!! It might be nothing but it could be Strictures that happen when you are healing. They explained it to me as it being like scar tissue closing of our pouch. (I think he said the Stoma) As far as your urine YOU HAVE GOT TO GET your fluids in!! It doesn't take long forus to become dehydrated. That is a true story and something you don't want!!! You are frusterated now and you don't feel great but trust your program if you do what your guidelines say too, I guarentee you will be ok and be very successful in your Journey. Now back to calling your DR. I know you are thinking that it is a Holiday week but your Dr has been paid a great wage and it will continue to cover everything that comes up!! It could be just harder due to your 1st week. Please take care and keep us posted on your journey. -

Panniculectomy.....Check!
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to freelee's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Congratulations from a fellow Panni person. I had mine when I was 2 years out also. My Surgeon removed 10plus #'s. It is totally amazing what they do to us. LOLOf course with our permission. LOL I also didn't have much pain at all. I theink that comes with the muscle repair. My PS told me the reason for a little bit of pain with just the Panni is because they don't cut the muscles or bone. We are very close in age. I am 61YO, I was 57 when I had my RNY!! One off the best things in my life!! Measures up their with marring my bestie and having my 2 children. You have done well also. Keep us in the know about your progress. Oh BTW I came home with 3 drains, which they weren't bad at all. I believe it is the fear of the unknown that gets us right. Ok talk later Have a good one!! -
Yes it is the bypass. Thank you and I know you can do it also. Just follow all of your Surgeon's guidelines. Keep asking ?'s. But remember this is their experience. Everyone's journey is their own. Don't weigh everyday because our weight can fluctuate all over the place. Keep in touch with like minded people!! This will help you cope when it seems like you have noone with you. Take care and keep us updated on your successes!!

Coffee after gastric sleeve
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to shericrazylady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am a coffee fiend!! I have always drank coffee since I was a young kid. I never gave up my coffee. Right after I was released from the hospital and I had to stay in a Motel until my 1 week check up I didn't want anything to do with coffee at all. I did get over that pretty quickly. I was never told to nor drink it. In fact at most of my follow ups I had a big cup og joe with me!! I know put GENEPRO in my Espresso everyday. It is a win win for me because I would drink the coffee anyway. -
Hi, I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. I had a few problems with Strictures. I ended up having 5 Endoscopes with 4 dialations. This started early on in my recovery. My first one was NOV of 2013 DEC 2013 Jan 2014 July 2014 with my last one Jan 2015. Every thing has been great since my last one. My STATS are as follows HW 249 SW 235 LW 117 CW 125#'s. I got below my goal in 6 months. I have maintained my weight for 3 and 1/2 years. BTW yesterday was my 4th hyear out from my RNY. If you ask me the queston if I would do it again? With everything within me my anwser would be a huge YES YES!!! I won't say that I wish I had done it sooner because I really dn't think I would have been ready before. I was still in the mind set that I could stick to my diet and lose the weight that way. Well, that wasn't the case at all!! Another reason I am happy I waited is look at all the practice and perfection these AMAZING DOCTORS have learned. They have done some growing thrun the years. The Surgeon that I had does WLS thru the robot. Not for me but soe would use that. Any way GOOD LUCK on your journey and keep us all posted on your success!!

Duodenal switch confers better metabolic improvement in type 2 diabetes
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to Abhijeet Singh's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I was so insulin resistant and I couldn't get my blood sugar down. My PCP said he was almost to the point that he felt like he would just throw up his hands!! I was on 100 units of Levermire insulin 2 times a day plus 500 mg of Metformin. I had my RNY and I am off all diabetes meds!! Right after I had my surgery I was off of them. I used to take 12 different medications now I take 4 plus my vitamins. I was told that the RNY has a high results in diabetic's getting off their meds or highly reduced meds. I had a high reading 2 months ago on my bloodwork but I know exactly why I had let some not so good for me carbs. I started taking my BS's again and it hasn't got but 1 bad result. That one was the first day I started keeping track of them. I have had great results with my RNY and I love that I have got my life back!! Good Luck in your journey. -
Wow!! This sounds delish!! I had my RNY July2, 2013. We are considered oldies. LOl You are 6 years. I am 4 years out. Did you have any problems? Great job!!

Went in for Bypass and ended up sleeved
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to kimba21539's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First my hubby had a Lap Band for 13 yrs. He had problems with not being able to eat or drink even wagter. So we went to a Bariatric Center of Excellance. He was going to have his Band removed and revise him to a RNY. When they got in the band had eroded into his liver and they couldn't finish the revision. He was deathly sick for 9 months with abcesses and had 5 differant bacterias. He can't remember 3 months. Fast forward to his DR that performed his removal dropped him!! Finally he had a ablation and a wound vac was put in. Last June we went to Mexico and he was supposed to have a RNY but...NOT!! His right side was totally scar tissue so he ended up with the Sleeve. It has taken him a year to finally figure out how and what to do. His mind tells him he can eat more than his body will allow. But he has lost 135#'s!! But he is still sad he didn't get the RNY. Things are ok now he still deals with mind hunger and I think he is figuring it out. May he continue to loose even more weight. Congratulations on your journey. I look forward to your future posts. -
one year surgiversary
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to yncse8's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are doing GREAT!!! I also had the RNY. July 2, 2013 within 6 months I lost down to 117#'s. Due to Strictures and being unable to eat or drink much at all. Lots of vomiting. YUK I did gain back 8#'s which put me at 125#'s. I have maintained my 124# loss for 3 and 1/2 years. Yes our surgeries are a TOOL!! My Nail lady almost lost me as a customer!! We got to talking about weight stuff, I told her I had the RNY and my sucess with it. She popped up and said I have lost 65#'s by doing it the real way, dieting and running!!~ I did get upset but I held my tongue that time!! At my next appointment again the weight thingy. I told her that it makes me mad when people say that I took the easy way out and NOONE knows unless they talk the walk!! I feel like shesure didn't mean it the way it came out. I am an adut and so is she, so we are in a good place now. BTW she understood why I said what I did. I could tell she had thought it over. Sometimes I just get defensive about how people percieve WLS. Again you've GOT THIS!!! -

Sherrie Scharbrough replied to Be_pretty_epic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You my friend are looking AMAZING!!! I love the top you have on!! KEEP ON KEEPING ON!! -
Well said Apple1 and GBLady41. We really need to be careful when someone ask us how we do it. Those who are newly out from WLS need to be helped to figure everything out. I feel like we do need to measure and weigh until we have an eye for what amounts to a serving. I also have 0 hunger and Thank Goodness for that!! I am 4 years out and I don't measure or weigh now. Because after this long I pretty much know what my tool can handle. I know this isn't a diet persay, but until you know what your POUCH or SLEVE can handle it is not doing them any service to tell them to wait until they are hungery or thirsty. Our mind can be very treacherous. Our eyes can deceive us. So yes measure and weigh if you need too. Good Luck

Post op diet/added a fruit too soon
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to BmanningNC's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Everyone makes mistakes for sure. When my Suregon told me that anything I could blend I could have (I was out futher than you) but I thought to myself HHHMMM watermellon is mostly water so I am going to give it a try. BAD IDEA!!! I got the "Back door trots so bad". The acid in the watermellon played havic with my bottom for sure. So if you are ok just know we all have been there done that sort of thing. Just follow your Dr's guidelines and you will be great. Good Luck -
Hi, I am sorry this is going on. Could you just have a FLU Bug? What type of protein shakes are you doing? Maybe there is something in them that is making you sick. When did it start? Maybe you should contact your Dr. I didn't have but 1 issue and that was when I drank Premuir protein. I did drink it for my 2 weeks of preop and then 4 weeks postop. Turned out I was Lactose Intolerant so I had diarrhea so bad!! I hope all gets better. Hang tight and just think about your end results!!

Food is my drug
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to SweetGisy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My hubby and I both are food addicts. I didn't have very good foundations to become anything else. My family as I was growing up never had fruits or veggies. Not even Potatoes until I got old enough to fix them. I ate nothing but meat (beef) bread and gravy!! My hubby on the other hand had his mom stuffing him while he was a baby. Feeding him 2 or 3 of the JR jars of baby food. His mom wasn't a toucy feely person. But she loved them with food. He is just now (1 year out from his Sleeve) able to state that and realizes that his association with LOVE means feeding everyone. This is the 1st thing he wants to do is feed anyone that comes to our house. He just admitted that his mind tells him that he can eat tons of food until he starts eating and his body just won't let him!! This is a AWESOME realization!! One step closer to his goal weight!! YAY
