    What were you scared of?

Congratulations on being in the clear! & no matter what just keep believing that God will bring you through! He hasn't brung you this far to let something go wrong! Best wishes ????
  2. Hi everyone. So my insurance requires you to attend 1 support group for the surgery & I went to my first 1 last night. I have to say I was nervous at first because it's the always not knowing what to expect thought BUUUT I am so glad I went!! Seeing the panel of individuals that just went through the surgery from 2015/2016 was so comforting. Listening to how all of their experiences were different throughout their journey but that they all reached their goal weight was inspiring. Although I told myself I was only going to attend the recommended 1 time meeting....I will be attending all of them. The meetings are once a month, every 2nd Wednesday & next month they teach about how to grocery shop which I'm looking forward too. Anyone else just starting their support group? What was your experience like? Will you go again? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What were you scared of?

Positive thoughts, positive results. I know it sounds simple but I'm still in the beginning & my fear is the whole approval (well was) I'm still awaiting the sleep apnea test & I keep hearing people talk about this denial part so much that I almost wanted to back down. But I know I need this so I'm just focusing on that one word "approved"....just channel your fears into positive energy and you'll be fine. I know you're going to great on your new journey ?? Best wishes ??

    Pre-op going great!

Congratulations on hanging in there. I was just at my support group meeting last night & people were saying how hard this step can be so it's nice to hear you're making it through with ease. Best of wishes to you during surgery as well ????

PCP is not on board anymore

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that. I wouldn't back down if I were you. You've come so far. I'd do my research & take it to both physicians & show why the surgery is beneficial towards your condition. Let them know how badly you need this! Best wishes ????

    The very beginning

Hi. My insurance requires 6 months of dietician visits, 1 psychologist visit, & 1 support group meeting. Haven't had my 1st dietician appointment yet (march 2nd) but I did do the support group last night & the information I received from those that are in my stage & those that have already gone through the surgery were very helpful. Just know this long process will be worth the wait as long as your taking in everything....I hope we all are approved in the end ?? Best wishes ??

    Set backs :'(

Aw I hope you heal quickly ?? I don't have any set backs at the moment & I hope I won't have any when I get to where you are. I'm still in beginning process of doing nutritionist appointments & waiting to do my sleep apnea test but just hang in there you'll be at your surgery date sooner than you think. Best wishes ??
  9. Hey guys. So later today I have my first support group meeting that's required my insurance to have before I can actually have my surgery. Was anyone else nervous like I am? What should I expect? Anyone else passed this stage already? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    1st support group meeting today

Hey & ? that is a lot. Here my insurance is only requiring 1 support group visit to have the surgery, but they said the more you attend the better it will be for you. Im just not ready to be fully exposed to answering questions out loud which is an other reason I joined here to kind of help me come out my shell some. I'm glad you received your approval & best wishes to you??

    Newbie

First congratulations on your 4months into your appointments & your upcoming sleep apnea test. I have to do a sleep study consultation on the 17th of this month before I do the actual sleep apnea test. I won't be finished with my dietician appointments until august...that sucks for me but I'm just going to use this time to mentally prepare for the surgery. & I understand completely...I've been battling weight since I was 9yrs old. I'll be 26 in May & it's just time for me to make the change so I can feel better about myself. So hang in there & try not to think about the horror stories & focus on the success stories. Believe me the horror stories will just mess you up mentally & discourage you; like it did me until I just focused on the success stories. & my insurance does have a bmi requirement; I believe you can't be over 50.
  12. Right. My insurance told me it could be between 6-9 months but the surgeon & my primary said all of there previous patients has been 6 months so I shouldn't be any different but still that's long
  13. Hey, no. I actually had to call them but my dr has to send in her portion but the real reason it takes 6 months is because I'm required to see the dietician 6x but you can only see them once a month ????. Also I'm waiting to be scheduled for my sleep apnea test & then once the results come in my surgeon will send his portion & then hopefully speaking that I get approved then the surgeon will schedule the appointment...it's just a lot of paper work & waiting & appointments. So I'm praying I get approved after having to go through so much.

    Ugh....6 months?!?!

Hey I have to wait the same amount of time for my insurance so I know exactly how you feel. It makes me very anxious and sometimes frustrating because other insurances are quicker. Just try to hang in there & do a countdown or do some writing or some type of activity to take your mind from it as much as possible if you can & good luck!???? 16. Hey everyone. I am currently still in the process of paper work & testing to see if my insurance will cover me for the gastric sleeve. I have been putting the process off for about 4 months now & I think I'm ready to do it. I am still nervous because of some of the horror stories I've read but I'm not new to undergoing surgery just seeing people fail with this as their "last option" isn't encouraging. Has anyone successfully or know anyone successfully that did the sleeve and got the results they expected? & is anyone else in the same stage I'm in? What are some things you're doing to try to stay positive especially when you don't really have support from family/friends? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    A nervous beginner seeking encouragement

@@triplethreat yes, I was nervous too. I've considered tummy tuck but my primary dr thought this would be much more beneficial for me in the future. I've put it off for about 4 months now but I'm truly happy for you & to hear you say you are in control is so uplifting. I can't wait to say those words keep up the good work! ???? @sc101071...wow congratulations to you! That's very encouraging to know. & yes this is why I need it to work & my insurance to approve me because I need a miracle! & that's amazing that you lost your obsession with food overnight. I was really concerned about that (I know everyone is different) but it's good to know it didn't take you long. & thank you so much, will do! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@Ivfavy...that's exactly what I mean by that term too lol. I have tried so many diets, exercises, work out groups, medications both prescribed & over the counter & nothing has worked permanently. & do you have any favorite videos on YouTube or IG that you would recommend me watching? @Newbeva...good luck with your process. Definitely praying for the best. & yes the anxiety & excitement is nerve racking for me. & you're absolutely right; we just have to stay positive & put in the work to get the best results. & I have been trying to find a support group in my area (Milwaukee) but haven't had any luck. Most of the support groups are here online. Have you found any support groups yet? If so how's it going for you? & its crazy that you mentioned your friend inspiring you because that is my same reasoning. She has lost 123lbs today (7 months post her surgery). So proud of her. She had gastric bypass though. Also thank you for the encouragement! I have faith in you too!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
