Stall ... for almost a month ... so frustrating
Katie Struthers replied to pharmD_vsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh I love coming across topics like this. I've been stalled/paused/(whatever you want to call it) for about 6 weeks myself. I finally saw the scale move in the correct direction. I'm stuck between 208 and 210. I have been logging my food and working out more regularly. I also work shift work...I'm currently working 12 hours shifts at night for 2 weeks straight (yes that means I work 14 days without a day off). I personally think my body is in shock right now trying to figure out why I'm eating at weird times and sleeping at weird times. I had 3 weeks off prior to this shift. So I'm telling myself to keep journaling my food and getting what little exercise I can with my schedule and eventually the scale will move. On a NSV note I went to the movies with hubby a couple weeks ago and realized how much more the comfy the seats were. neither thigh/hip were touching the sides of the chair. that was so cool!!! -
Frustrated a bit
Katie Struthers replied to LaLaJ13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep telling myself that slow and steady wins the race. Maybe I'll have less loose skin, etc. if I lose slower. I don't know, I always try to look at the positive side of stuff, even though I get down sometimes too. -
Stall at 8 months WTH
Katie Struthers replied to Danielle Elaine DeMartino's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Exercise is my nemesis...Every morning I get up and say "I'm gonna do one of my workouts today" and here I sit at 1pm in the afternoon going "where did my morning go?" lol -
Nasty taste in mouth
Katie Struthers replied to angie_787's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I noticed my taste buds seem to have changed after my surgery. Have you tried Crystal Light? It adds flavor to water, but completely sugar free. I couldn't get my water intake without my Crystal Light. According to my NUT and Dr it's perfectly acceptable. -
16.8% for me. ugh. I'm a slow loser.

Stall at 8 months WTH
Katie Struthers replied to Danielle Elaine DeMartino's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh my I feel the same way!!! I see other ppl lose so much more in their 1st 6 months. I keep thinking what am I doing wrong. Then I read a lot of other reviews and it reminds me that EVERYONE is different. I have lost weight and need to stop comparing myself to EVERYONE else. we are all winners here. We are all here for support and suggestions and we can do this together. -
A confession at 16 weeks
Katie Struthers replied to snapy17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't experience dumping syndrome either...I, like you, had hoped that would keep me on the straight and narrow more than willpower would. When I'm feeling bloated/heavier I tell myself to start writing down what I eat. It is literally an eye opener and makes me see what I'm doing wrong, ie. snacking on chips/crackers instead of veggies or protein. I find it's very easy to make excuses also and I'm trying to determine how to stop doing that. Excuses as in, PMS or working 12 hour days, etc. It's nice to visit these forums and read that everyone has their own demons and issues and struggles just like me. -
I think I was about a week out when I started eating SF Fudgsicle. they were my crack. haha in a good way. only had one once a day if even that. just a nice chocolate flavored treat.

Working through missing "volume"
Katie Struthers replied to Paul Bahr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly what you mean and how you feel. There are times I see co workers eating a big ol hamburger and fries and wash it down with a soda and I'm like drooling. But when I put my pants on and they are about falling off because I've lost weight it makes it not so bad. and I've learned that when I'm hungry and eat my "sensible protein food" I then feel satiated and no longer crave that junk. Overall it's a good feeling, but I get the jealousy once in awhile. Yes all head games. That's why we are here sharing our stories, getting support from others going through the same thing. -
Finally did a full protein day
Katie Struthers replied to LifeIsAllGood's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like a couple different protein shakes. Premier Protein, 30G per bottle, is the best tasting and easiest to buy. I get them from Wal-Mart. I have also ordered protein mixes from Bariatric Pal and like all of the ones I've tried. I feel like I'm getting a milkshake when I make them at home. As far as Multi-vitamin, I use the Bariatric pal Multi-Vitamin Patch. I love it!!!! no chewing anything. The dr's office recommended them so I know they work. -
How Do You Prevent Replacement Addictions?
Katie Struthers replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have heard of other stories of weight loss success where people just turned addiction into something else, ie. shopping, exercise, etc. I'm not gonna lie. I've wondered how I'm going to fill the void now that I can't eat what and when I want to. lol -
Weight loss at 4 Months
Katie Struthers replied to mylastchance21's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I have been feeling the same way lately. I am 5 months post op and down almost 50 pounds. I kept seeing other ppl with soooo much more weight loss is that same amount of time. I have to keep telling myself that I'm doing ok for me. It is a struggle from time to time to reduce carbs and increase protein. I just started working out regularly and that helps me feel a lot better, which is the real struggle. How we feel about ourselves, right? These forums are a great sounding board for our concerns -
To lose a lot of weight in the 1st month and then stall is normal. Your body has a memory and it thinks something is wrong and is trying to stay at your previous weight. Just stick with it, don't over due it, and the weight will start coming off. I myself have very very slow weight loss. only about a pound per week. but the doc says that is a healthy way to lose. Good luck. You got this!

I'm having a severe case of "am I losing too slow? Am I sabotaging myself?" I see other people's profiles that had the surgery around the same date as me or even since my surgery that have lost 50-60 pounds. I've only lost 40. So disheartening. Anyone else losing that slow? only about a pound a week?

1 week post op and NO FULL FEELING
Katie Struthers replied to BrodieGL25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt hungry all the time for the first 2-3 months after surgery, but it finally tapered off to now I know the difference between hungry and not. About a week after I started getting the "hangrys" so hubby cooked up a nice scrambled egg for me. I ate about half of it, slowly. It seemed to help me a lot! Hang in there. It should get better. -
How often so you weigh in?
Katie Struthers replied to maggieO's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh it's good to hear someone else say their weight loss is slow. Mine is as well and I keep telling myself that is a good thing . Now I just have to listen to myself but I weigh about 4-5 days a week. I can usually tell if I'm on track or off. If I'm feeling off I get on the scale and it helps me get back on track. Less anxiety for me. -
What got me through that stage was knowing the dr might send me home without the surgery if I didn't follow his instructions to the T. I'm shocked your on liquid protein already with 6 days to go. I was only on liquid for 2 days before surgery. Anyway I just drank and sucked on icicles to get me through.

Who did NOT loose hair or much?
Katie Struthers replied to Rita48's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I myself notice a difference in the shower with how much hair comes out. If I'm not getting my minimum recommended protein I seem to have a handful of hair, however if I'm doing well with my protein it's not so bad. I really think it's our own genetics that determines the hair loss.
