Vitamins and taking pills
BgR72 replied to AstroGuy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going with the liquid, chewables & chews (a combination of the three). I have problems with my big pills so after my bypass I will switch to them. I do not want to put myself in the position of swallowing big pills or any pills after surgery. Celebrate Vitamins & Wellesse liquid Calcium citrate & Bariatric Advantage are the brands I will use. Matter of fact I will stick to the liquid, chewables and chews. Yes, they do add up in price. Being that they are bariatric gives me comfort because they are tailor made. Or at least I know what is recommended and take them according to my needs CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128 -
Celebrate Essential Multi 3 in 1 Vitamin drink mix wild cherry. I ordered samples from celebratevitamins.com and it had a sample packet of it. It taste great to me. Close to tasting like the fruit punch crystal light. They also have a citrus flavor too and a raspberry lemonade. Their sample pack cost $3.00. They had a variety of their product in the samples. Multivitamins and Iron also. Worth trying CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128

Trying out bariatric vitamins..
BgR72 replied to BgR72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, me too I love the taste of Celebrate Vitamins. Whatever reaction I am having is weird. I have to see my primary doctor next week and I will bring this up to her. It may have irritated my bladder. I have interstitial cystitis so my bladder is sensitive. CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128 -
I just had my surgery consult last week. Dr Joyce says yes he can do the bypass. So, I have my psych consult left to do then my class. So I am in the process. I am hoping for a May surgery date. That will fit my schedule better plus I told the nurse that will be better. So I am in the process of trying out bariatric Vitamins. Celebrate had a sample pack that I ordered and tried. I noticed that the Multivitamin chewable and Calcium plus chewable gave me a sharp pains like near my bladder. Not the side of my stomach but lower. They were very sharp but only while I kept biting off and eating pieces of the chewables. As soon as I was finished the sharp pain stopped! I didnt know what to think so the next day I tried it again. Again the sharp pain happens while chewing on the chewables. So today I went back to my other multivitamin and it didnt happen. So i figure maybe something in the chewable that my body or wherever that sharp pain came does not like this chewable. So, I will try the chews instead. Really weird! Has anyone ever had sharp pains with any baratric Vitamin?

I have the same situation in both my knees. I struggle to walk and have had orthovisc injections. Next step my Dr says is knee replacements. I dont want that for my life. So bypass is the tool that I need to help get this weight off. I made my decision. I dont want to remain obese and I want healthy knees without the stress of excess weight pounding on them. I am in the same situation. I have PCOS and hypothyroidism. I weigh 319. My doctors all said bypass would be better for me because of my problems. I too would also like to hear from women who had bypass who have the same problems. CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128

Not new to low carbs & so I am familiar with some side effects
BgR72 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have done the atkins diet. I have done the fasting programs. Warrior program. Went 25 hours without food & then eat one time & fast again. So I have some understanding of low carbs or no carbs. I used the keto strips to see if I got into the fat burning process. So I did different programs. Ultimately, I didnt get a consistent weight loss from these programs. Maybe 18 lbs then couldnt sustain the weight loss and or lose any more. I noticed that while on a low carb program or no carb that I kept a dry mouth. Also with the dry mouth was the bad breath because of the dry mouth. It was unpleasant. So, I started to chew gum more change mouthwash to non alcohol. It helped somewhat but more or so to cover up the dry mouth & bad breath. Basically, I found out that dry mouth and bad breath may be what some may deal with when carbs are low. So with the pre & post op program this may become an issue for some. I heard that we cant chew gum. I think that's what I read. I will confirm with the nutritionist. If so, I got to find a replacement because I know this will be a problem for me. Maybe sugarfree mints? IDK. Still wont be the same like chewing in gum. I wonder is this just for 6 months post surgery not to chew gum ? Got to ask my doctor to make sure. If someone knows Im sure I will read it. But will ultimately confirm yes or no when I see my doctor this week. Anyone dealing with dry mouth and or bad breath while on pre or post op program. -
Good luck to you. You will be fine. CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128

Just got my labs back..Low Vitamin D...
BgR72 replied to MelissaRose24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did the doctor discuss with you your results and how to help build it up with a supplement and or Multivitamins? Now is the time to ask about it & get answers from your doctor how to get levels up. Dont wait till after your surgery. Understanding your levels & Vitamins to supplement is important. CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128 -
That sounds like maybe deficiencies in Calcium or & Vitamin d or both. I have a history of running low on Vitamin D (mind you my surgery is not for a few months) so I have experienced cavities and enamel erosion and it was due to deficiencies. So I increased both vitamin d and calcium citrate and i am much better. Symptoms improved tremendously. So, thats why its important after the bypass to follow guidelines the nutritionist sets in how much more is needed. Vitamins are very important before bypass and much more important afterwards but also in the correct amount tailored for bypass patients. If you look at the extra calcium & vitamin d we need to have to keep us healthy it can give you an idea on how important they are as well as Iron and vitamin b 12. CW: 319 SD:May 2017 GW: 128

When I start my nutrition class if the nutritionist says no sugar ...then I will follow her and have no sugar no matter what it is. Dont know what she will say but i am preparing myself. Following all the guidelines the nutritionist sets for me is my goal. CW:319 SD:hopefully in May 2017 GW:135 -
Prayers from me to you.

I heard of them but not too familiar. Muscle Milk has more protein. It is what I will use for my pre & op diet & lifestyle in general too. Muscle milk has zero sugar & 25 grams of protein. Some of them have 2 grams of sugar & the 100 calories ones have no sugar. They also have one that has about 220 or 260 calories with 40 grams of protein. So any formula in the muscle milk is a great source of protein. Watch out for the cyto muscle milk its not the geniune one. It has to say Genuine Muscle Milk. I get them at walmart for 2.98. Also on amazon I can get a case of 12. They come in 14 oz& 17 oz ready to drink. Also they come in powder mix. Just putting that out there. Still, good to try different brands. I read where someone stated that their taste changed after surgery and they suggest to not buy all in one flavor or brand. Mix them up.

Great job! -
My pre surgical consult is Feb 24. I been through this years ago but just didnt have the mindset to continue past the consult . This time around my mindset is ready and been researching extensively gastric bypass. I also have developed a list of healthy foods to make part of my new healthy lifestyle after the transition. I am thinking ahead and steady creating an atmosphere that becomes my lifestyle with the vegetables and fruits that I should have been eating and enjoying instead of the sweets and unheathly foods. I figure its never too early to develop the mindset needed after pre & post op diet. The fact is that we wont be on liquid supplements for life. The reality of healthy food must be a primary goal to continue with consistent weight loss and with keeping the weight off. Its a choice!

This is my mindset right now This mindset will keep me strong.... Just wanted to share to all-- Accept: The fact that the Pre-op diet is whatever the nutritionist and doctor guidelines requires and to respect it. Accept: The fact that the Pre-op diet may be hard for you but the need for you to be successful is up to you. Accept: The fact that the Post-op diet may be hard for you just like the Pre-op diet. Endure it. Accept: The fact that you and your body may need more time before transition to soft foods and the same may be for solid foods. Accept: The fact that weight loss may be slower for you than others. Accept: The fact that success should be measured in accomplishments. Whether your pace is fast or slow. Accept: The fact that the steps you take forward no matter how big or small no matter how long it took you will bring you success. Stay Strong Readyforthis2017

Getting understanding of Multivitamins
BgR72 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I am learning is that doing my own research on how important multivitamins are and their benefits (especially after gastric bypass) opens me up to being respectful of their role in my life. So, If you dont understand something its best to get informed on it instead of rejecting it. It pays off to do your research for your own wellbeing. The focus must be on doing whats best for you in your situation. In this journey you must become an advocate in keeping healthy. It is our choice to stay healthy. Gastric Bypass is the tool to use to help us and with that comes our responsibility to become informed and be participants in all aspects of staying healthy. Readyforthis2017 -
I am still doing my research on gastric bypass and I am scheduled for my consultation next week. So I am in the beginning stages but I have already had sleep study&pulmonary completed. I am researching pre & post op foods. I see that chicken broth is on the list. I always get heartburn from chicken broth so can anyone please suggest what I should try in place of it? I am in the process of trying different items from the pre&post list but the broth is a problem.

Multivitamins: Building up before gastric bypass
BgR72 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello, I am new on here. I have only done a couple of posts but I got to tell you all what I noticed about multivitamins. Lately, for the past 2 weeks I have been taking my multivitamins(its in tablet form)but this time around I take the recommended two tablets instead of the one tablet I usually would take. I notice a change in my cravings and appetite. My cravings arent as strong and my appetite has mellowed out not as intense. I believe the multivitamins are to blame. I havent changed anything outside of adding the extra tablet each day which is what is recommended. Multivitamins are very important BEFORE and after surgery. It makes sense. Get on multivitamins before your surgery. I dont know if this is medically sound but in my case I really have cut out sugar with the recommended multivitamins. Its always a good thing to prepare beforehand. I will ask my primary doctor to order bloodwork to check for any deficiencies before surgery. Its a good thing to know where you stand. Well, I just wanted to put that out there. Multivitamins are [emoji106] -
Multivitamins: Building up before gastric bypass
BgR72 replied to BgR72's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Youre welcome. It looks like Multivitamins along with the recommendations and guidelines for pre & post diet that multivitamins also play an important role to our wellbeing and success. Currently I am on the Pure Synergy Multivitamins they only carry it in tablet form. I got it from their site www.thesynergycompany.com or you can buy them on amazon. I do not plan to take them post surgery because I dont want to swallow it(and its a large pill) I plan to switch all my Vitamins to chewable. Most likely Celebrate brand which you can buy on amazon. I wished they did make a chewable. I called them to confirm whether or not they make a chewable they said they do not. I also asked if it could be cut in half and taken that way. The rep stated that it would lose its effectiveness. So, since their are chewables out there I will do the chewable thing for a while. -
