Anyone with a July surgery-July 17 2017- My surgery date
BgR72 replied to BgR72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just learned from blood work that im a little dehydrated. So, this was a fear I prayed wouldnt happen. I easily get dehydrated. I am pushing more of the broth because water is acting like a diuretic because im low in sodium. Will discuss this further with the surgeon today and also on my last pre op on this Friday July 7. Surgery is two weeks away. Wow iamready4this -

BgR72 replied to surviving5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is July 17. My last appt is July 7. My pre op diet starts July 3. I feel you about the pre op. I started a pre pre op diet to jump start me for my official pre op. Its been very helpful. I now have more confidence that I will be strong enough to endure it because my cravings are not as strong. iamready4this -
First appointment Tomorrow to start my journey - HELP
BgR72 replied to PinkiePie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wishes, Pinkie First consultations usually are very basic in nature. At least that was my experience. My surgeon went over the basics of each surgery in general terms( the benefits of wls,the difference in them, your bmi, what diets you were on in the past&risks) & I had already did some research beforehand. Write down your questions, thoughts or feelings and express them. First consultation is a beginning & also is where you start to bond with your surgeon. So, express yourself & concerns however you need. I dont know how much research you have done prior so when you& your surgeon do decide on what wls surgery will be best for you make sure you take notes in your nutrition class&do research on your own to get a well rounded understanding & education on the pros & cons & your responsibilities. Also, reading what others experienced(like on this forum) during their journey has helped me tremendously. Absorb as much information as you can. Listen & follow what your surgeon says. Yes, emotions run high & low. I am both happy & anxious at my upcoming surgery. There are great people to learn from in this forum. This forum is like icing on a cake. The information you get from your surgeon & nurse & nutrition class is the cake & this forum is the icing. Good luck to you iamready4this -

16 lbs lost before my pre op diet begins..
BgR72 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got to tell you. I would have never guessed that I would lose weight before my pre op diet. The last time I lost 16lbs was nearly 3 years ago! I have been battling weight issues from just being overweight to being obese for years. When I made up my mind to enter into this bariatric program I also made up my mind to work it & relearn how to look at food. It is a process. Nutrition class was such a great wake up call & how to open my mind to change. My surgeon always reminds me to keep my weight down in my last couple of visits. It never clicked that I was free to start my own pre op diet before my actual pre op diet. My pre op diet officially starts July 3 & my surgery is July 17. So, my reason for this testimony is that you can start to cut back before your pre op diet. You can start to lose weight before your pre op diet(even if your doctor doesnt give you a number of how much weight to lose). I prayed to God for strength. I know God wants me healthy so I can live longer to be a blessing to others. I myself want to be a healthier person. If you know you could benefit from cutting back before your pre op diet ... Try it. -

I just started using a fitness band to help keep me motivated in regards to walking & moving around more. It seems like looking down at it to see where I stand during the day motivates me to do more the next day. Sent from my LG-H811 using BariatricPal mobile app -

My pre op starts July 3. I have the same pre op as you. Im glad too that at least we can have that lean protein with veggies along with our protein shakes & sugar free popscicles. Yummy popscicles what a treat lol. Good luck to you & all. We got this!! -
Thats great to hear!! This sleep apnea & having the c pap with a full mask can kind of be a drag. Its a blessing to have such a machine to help with the sleep apnea but it will be a bigger blessing when I wont need it & have no sleep apnea. Its great to hear how gastric bypass surgery can benefit us in many different ways. Sent from my LG-H811 using BariatricPal mobile app

Liquid Diet starts today!
BgR72 replied to PhillyEagles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I had to do the same. I started a month ago replacing one or even two meals with premier protein. I had to wean myself off of bread & sweets and it took a month to get it out of my system & eventually it stopped my craving for... Wait for it.. Strawberry cheesecake( it was a major sweet tooth). I really didnt know if I could work myself off from it but thank God it worked. I figured I needed not to stop cold turkey but gradually work myself far from it. My pre op diet doesnt officially start until July 3. So, now I know I wont struggle as much because I needed time before I officially start my pre op to get rid of those sweet tooth craving. It takes some self control& praying & motivation & not going grocery shopping when youre hungry. I read about how you should never grocery shop while hungry & I used it & it works. I will continue to use that to help me. This definitely is a process & I knew how bad my sweet tooth was & so I decided to work on a pre- pre op diet to prepare me for my pre op. I lost 10 lbs doing it. I just wished premier protein would be in my pre op since I am using it now. Keep working that pre op. You can do this! You got this !!!!!! Has anyone had a nutritional iv? A banana bag?
BgR72 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I came across some info on nutritional i.v & banana bags. If you had either one or both can you explain them to me. Also, why the doctor ordered it. The only understanding I got from what I read was if there was a deficiency and dehydration. I was wondering how bad do you have to be to get these. Seems like if they help feed the body vitamins and the other hydrates it should be something we all should have? -

I start my pre op on July 3. My surgery is July 17. Youre lucky you get to have premier protein for pre op. My doctor will have me on two protein supplements per day add water(not milk). For dinner 4oz lean protein ( turkey, chicken, beef) and 1/2 cup of vegetables. In between to help with hunger we can have sugar free popsicles, broth and sugar free jello Sent from my LG-H811 using BariatricPal mobile app -
I would ask your surgeon when you see him who will be ordering your cpap. Get the number from him if its not him and call them. Make sure you get the number and check on them about your status. If you get a surgery date tell whomever is ordering your cpap your surgery date and stay on top of them. For me I had to call them many times to make sure I knew where I stood in regards to what stage of the process I was at with them. Its some paperwork they have to submit to your insurance company and some office work so I its a good idea to call them. I called once a week for 3 weeks. I live in joliet il

Im at a 10. So I feel you. So you have your cpap machine? Waiting for it? Where ever you got the order for the sleep study that doctor has to make sure you have your cpap. My pulmonologist ordered my sleep study. Your surgeon usually just gets a fax with your sleep study results from your ordering doctor and also from where ever you had your sleep study. So you had the sleep study? What happens is the sleep study results are faxed over to your doctor and an order is put in for your cpap. They verfiy your insurance and about 3 weeks you should get a call from the cpap supplier informing you that they have your cpap and they will set up an appointment for you to come in so they can show you how to use your cpap. Depending on how severe your sleep apnea they will order a full mask, or pillow or another type of mask(I forget the name). I have been using my c pap with a full mask for months. In regards to them delaying your surgery because of sleep apnea. The way I was told is when they officially diagnose you with a sleep apnea you must have your c pap machine before surgery. We are required to bring it for our hospital stay. I even had to have mine when they kept me overnight for observation. So, if your sleep apnea is documented they have to order a cpap machine and at least my surgeon states he would not perform surgery unless I had a cpap machine and was using it every night. I was told it helps your lungs along too as well as providing air. Check with your doctor. So, what my doctor stated is that as long as I had my machine I would be fine. Having sleep apnea does not cause a delay. Its a health issue that needs care and thats the cpap machine. They will help with that. Sometimes it takes a lot of calls. My surgery is July 17. I was also told you have to use it at least 4 hours everyday. If not your insurance may stop paying for it. My doctor and nurse said I had to have one or he wouldnt perform my gastric bypass.

I think from what i remembered in nutrition class our nurse stated it would have to be removed. I didnt hear anything about removing nail polish but I stopped wearing polish one month ago because I developed an allergy to nail polish. I would ask your doctor if that is necessary. Does anyone know if nail polish needs to be removed before surgery? Good question Sent from my LG-H811 using BariatricPal mobile app

So far what I have been reading & also from what my doctors office suggested were the following: cell phone & charger& slippers&housecoat&loose fitting clothing& medicine list&pillow&neck pillow&paper&pen to write with&your hygiene & beauty items& cpap(if you use one).. So far thats what i will bring. I regards to hair shampoo that would be a question to ask your doctor.
