  1. Happy 56th Birthday gadumplin!

  2. Yes I would do it over again! Even though I haven't lost any weight in the last 5 months due to esphageal dysmotility. My doctor will not give me a fill because when he does I suffer from nighttime reflux. I am down 70 pounds and being 30 pounds overweight is lots easier than being 100 pounds overweight. I just pray that someway I can get through the holidays without gaining any and maybe in January I can get a slight fill and lose some of the 30 pounds!! I refuse to say I am through. I still love my band!
  3. I had the lap band in May of 2008 and I am so glad I did. I was concerned with giving up most of my comfort foods but have found that it was much easier than I thought. It has not always been easy but I have never regreted my decision to have the band. The strange thing is you don't really have a desire for the same foods as before or at least I don't! I make bad choices at least daily but I have successfully lost 70 pounds, I still need to lose 30 and the last 30 is being sooo stubborn but I have set a goal to lose 10 pounds this year. Being 30 pounds overwight is lots eaiser than being 100 pounds overwieght. I am 52 years old and ony wish I could have done this at 33. Good luck with whatever decision you make. Let me know if I can help you in your decision making. God Bless

    Reflux problems

I am at my best restriction since I was banded one year ago; however I am waking up between 4 and 5 am with reflux that is just horrible. I am taking pepcid prescribed by my surgeon, have elevated my bed and try not to eat several hours before lying down. I hesitate to have any taken out of my band because I so want to start losing again. Any suggestions on what I might need to do?

    Countdown to Onederland!

Today is my one year anniversary and I am 4 pounds away from onederland. :cursing: Oh I can see it and it looks sooooo good! I am not even disappointed that I didn't make my goal to be in onederland by one year because my Band has been so faithful and good to me that I know that I will make it soon. ( after all its just a number) I was 272 pounds a year ago and had given up! It has been a great journey and I look forward to the next year! Any newbies out there who is wondering if the band works I will say to you " you betcha it works"!!:cursing:

    My own friends don't notice???

Abbey, You know what you have accomplished and you know you deserve compliments BUT for whatever reason these people just don't get it. I have lost 60+ pounds and peoples reaction is a big joke because you would not believe the comments I get like "Wow you look great... oh its your new hair style!" come on now if a new hair style could make you look 60 pounds thinner the stylist would be so busy you couldn't get in for an appointment. THink about it this way; what they don't say is louder (which is GIRL you look great) than what they say( which is nothing)! Hang in there the good comments are on the way! Like yesterday I went into a shop that has one side Plus sizes the other size regular sizes and when I went to pay the cashier said "wow you look great , didn't you used toshop on the other side. SO hang on the comments are on the way.

    Slippage or overfilling?

SOunds like an overfill. If you are not better by Friday I would call my surgeon. Don't want to get worse during the week-end! Good luck.

    Driving myself Crazy

Hi Jack, Congrats on your band. I was several fills out before I found they were certain foods that I could not tolerate. I did however notice that I got full faster after the lap band was placed. That is when I lost weight the fastest. Just follow the Dr's orders and be patient. When the fills start the tolerance will change. I am 9 months banded and have lost 60 pounds. THere is still times I get freaked out that my band has slipped, but I don't think it is as easy to slip as we think. YOu get more relaxed as you get to know your Band ,Good luck!

    What is going on?

Okay all you experienced people in Lab band world I need some advice. I am 9 months and 3 fills out and have lost 60 pounds:biggrin:. I felt like I needed more restriction so I called my Dr last week and sceduled a fill, or to discuss a fill on the 19th of March. They have me keeping a food diary to bring in with me so they can get a feel for what is going on. Well yesterday while having lunch with 4 of my co workers I had an episode of something; just started sliming and then threw up in front of God and everyone... Had dinner last night all was going well and all of a sudden ..up it came.:tt2: So I am going to soft foods today. I guess I am wondering if maybe I am too tight and that is why my weight loss has slowed down? ANy ideas or suggestions?

    Band erosion and Caffine...

alcohol and caffeine do stimulate acid secretion in your stomach, as does decaffeinated coffee. Caffeine also blocks production of prostaglandins, weakening your stomach's cytoprotection........(what ever that means) ......probably why we shouldn't have caffeine

    too tight or what?

I feel his misery...been there done that and it was awful. My Dr had gone out of town and I had to stay that way for 3 days! He will be fine once he gets an unfill! Immediate relief. Wish him well.

What is the fastest way to INCREASE my Iron?

Iron for Energy In addition to providing quickly assimilated carbohydrates, blackstrap molasses can increase your energy by helping to replenish your iron stores. Blackstrap molasses is a very good source of iron. Particularly for menstruating women, who are more at risk for iron deficiency, boosting iron stores with blackstrap molasses is a good idea--especially because, in comparison to red meat, a well known source of iron, blackstrap molasses provides more iron for less calories and is totally fat-free.

Who can still eat whatever they want?

I was banded in May and have had 3 fills and could eat whatever UNTIL the last fill and now I am learning that there is somethings better left alone. I have also learned that everyday is different, some days it is easier to eat that others. I am still learning my band and what it is trying to tell me and eveyday is a new learning experiece. I am scheduled for another fill on Monday but I'm not sure if I need one or not. I plan on discussing with my surgeon when I get there. I also have started losing weight again since my last fill got some restriction. good luck to all and restiction is coming!!!
