Reasonable caloric intake one-week post-op?
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to anonmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
anonmom!! You're a beast:-). I am 7 days out and don't have the energy to sweep a floor much less workout. My dr has me on full liquids so the only chewing I get to do is my vitamin chews (yum). I am up to 1.5 protein shakes a day and maybe 20 Olof water. Can't get more down than that. That's about 300 calories. -
You. Can. Do. It. Lol. I'm day 7 and just starting to feel somewhat normal. I am not at all hungry but am back cooking for my fam. Wow! Tougher than I thought. I wanna nibble but have been good fighting it. We can do this. Right now solid food can hurt us... that's what I try to remember.

4 days post op, is this normal?
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to Jdewv75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I'm 7 days out and finally my gas pain is over. I was also having tummy spasms that were crazy painful and they are now gone too. My tummy is very noisy tho. I am getting closer to my protein and fluid goals each day but still not there yet. I didn't take a poop til yesterday and it was such a relief:-). Searching posts here about my symptoms really has helped when I start to worry. Good luck -
You're in a pack of emotion bottlers here. Turning to food for company and solace. It's great for us and our future relationships that we recognize that. I am 1 week post surgery. The restrictiveness I have now for eating has been a Godsend. Why? Because it is a constant physical reminder that I don't want to be this way anymore. As I work through my emotional eating problems I have this little tummy helping me to cope with the physical manifestation of my unhappiness. I have heard that the first few weeks are tough. They are. It is tough to break up with your best friend. I'm totally over him now and ready to move forward into healthier and happier times in my life. So excited for this to begin for you.

I don't have a liquid pre op diet
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to dpeters88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had to do 1 day as well. I have a relatively low BMI so I think that may have been the reason. My dr places some patients on a Two week full liquids diet and 1 day clear. -
I'm the opposite. I see it on the scale but don't really notice on my body. I'm 1 week post op and have lost nearly 15 pounds but my clothes feel the same. I am thinking I can't hold my tummy in because I'm still tender. I think everyone is different. You body was just traumatized by major surgery. Give it some time. It will happen.

Feb 2017 sleevers - how's everyone doing post-op?
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to biginjapan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, Just checking in. I was sleeved 2/6. Yesterday was the closest I came to getting my protein. (53g). I felt like celebrating to break the 45g mark. My tiny little swollen tummy is healing. I was able to eat a 4 ounce cup of broth in one sitting! Another celebration:-) I don't think you're expected to get it all in so soon. That is what the full liquids phase is for. Healing and giving your tummy a moment to adjust. I'm already collecting yummy recipes for the purée phase... And I can't wait to sleep on my tummy too!!!! Maybe tonight!! Take care of yourselves! -
Lost 20 lbs 1 week post op!
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to lysie1022's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do 1 meal replacement for a couple weeks and clear liquids the day before. Lost 3 lbs during pre op. Not anything like the 2 weeks of liquid I see on the board. -
Lost 20 lbs 1 week post op!
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to lysie1022's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here. Only 7 days post op and have lost nearly 15 pounds. I attribute most of it to water weight. Think about all the salt you are no longer getting. That alone will hold 15 pounds of water in the body. I have noticed some physical changes with the loss of water weight. My hands and face don't look puffy or bloated. My rings are spinning. It's real weight loss but man it is pretty dramatic. -
Good point Fab. I lost my gall bladder 7 years ago after losing 50 pounds on the HCG diet. I think my Acid Reflux will subside with time. Anne is not really responding but pasting the same post on here. I have not seen where she shares how far out from surgery she is. Ready to fly!!
-
Anne I am so sorry for your struggles. I think we all are different after this surgery. I never had acid reflux or heartburn before surgery. I have a bit of reflux now. I am only 6 days out but feel that acid reflux is a good trade off compared to high cholesterol, diabetes, urinary incontinence , or never seeing my grandbabies grow. Still have no regrets and I encourage anyone thinking about this surgery to consider the trade offs. I even accepted that I may not make it through surgery. Living a quality life healthy is way more important to to me than a life in constant misery because I can't enjoy doing the things I dream of. Notice I didn't say eating the things I dream of. Good luck to you and I hope your symptoms subside. Ready to fly!!

I failed...I didn't succeed with sleeve!
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to azgirl44's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Netflix has a great docu called "Hungry for Change". And Hulu has one called "The Perfect Human Diet". These kinds of documentaries are fascinating to me as well as motivating. It illustrates how much "non-human" food we consume. Made me look at my food way differently. I'm only 6 days out so food is no problem for me. I don't get any:-) but I'm prepping for some good clean eating when I can. Ready to fly!! -
What did you ask the surgeon?
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to Myaiku_Kuraitani's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes! I asked how many times he's had a leak. He gave me a cocky smile and said "never". I asked his PA the same question...her answer was never also. That was important to me. Ready to fly!! -

Regrets. Need reinforcement
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
K_aane makes an excellent point. I am 5 days post op and have no regrets. I saw the Oprah commercial and looked at it from the "Hungry for Change" perspective. She says, I can have chips...she loves chips. Who doesn't love chips? Nobody and I really mean nobody actually needs chips. They are empty calories and not good for you. I tried WW at least three times and was told I could eat whatever I want but had to stay within point parameters. So if you eat high calorie foods your hungry the rest of the time. Also check out "The Perfect Human Diet". I think I saw it on Hulu. It talks about human and non-human food. Believe it or not, humans eat ALOT of non-human foods... Always think of your new tummy as a tool to help you maintain control. I love my new tummy:-). My lack of hunger and new relationship with food is exciting and hopeful. Think positive thoughts. Why Did You Choose Your Specific Type of Weight Loss Surgery?

Why Did You Choose Your Specific Type of Weight Loss Surgery?
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started this wanting the sleeve but understood that my medical team may think differently. I chose the sleeve because it did not change the biological function of how my body processed foods. Because of this I learned that there are fewer complications down the road. I would say research and discuss with your medical team. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Good luck and positive thoughts to you. Ready to fly!!

I had surgery Monday and every time I drink some Protein shake I get acid reflux. It has only been 4 days. Did anybody have this right after surgery but found it got better after healing? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Acid Reflux
Pam_2-06-2017 replied to Pam_2-06-2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the comments. My doctor has me taking a Nexium once a day. I take it at night. But when I lay down...ugh...I get bubbles in my throat. It feels weird. Doesn't taste acidic. I never had acid reflux or heartburn pre surgery. Maybe I'm misdiagnosing myself. Any ideas? Ready to fly!!
