Thanks for all the replies. I had ultimately decided to wait until my daughter was a year old before perusing this further, that way if it did effect my milk supply, she would would be old enough to wean anyway. In the meantime, my husband’s employment and insurance changed. Now it’s not possible for me to get the surgery at all as our bcbs IL high deductible plan doesn’t cover any part of weight loss plans or surgery.

I'm going to my seminar tomorrow and hope to have surgery by this summer. Just had my 3rd baby in September though, so she will still be nursing. Even if I pushed it back to the end of the year, I don't have any plans to wean at a specific time. So my question is, has anyone here had the sleeve done while still nursing? Did the diet change affect your milk supply? Were you able to get pain relief after surgery without pumping/dumping? TIA! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I read about a professional body builder who had lost a significant amount of weight. When she does the bikini walk she looks amazing. Turns out she pulls the extra skin up, puts double sided tape on it, then folds it like the flap to an envelope. She's very very low body fat, so Idk if this would work in the real world, but I thought I'd pass it along. Maybe something like that could give you a smoother appearance and more confidence. But I still think you look great.

I only have to see a nutritionalist once, but I'm sure it varies by insurance!

I started seeing my PCP for the diet on 2/6 and can see either her or my surgeon once a month to be weighed in. I was told I can see either one, so long as I don't miss a month, because then the 6 month period would have to start over! Next Thursday I find out how much the surgeon wants me to lose during this time, I'm 293 right now and qualify for surgery all the way down to 233.

You look amazing! I second having a heavier fabric liner under so that it can flow a bit more. But you really don't need it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I need to be sleeved before they start eating people. As I am now, I have little hope of surviving an outbreak lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I think they're terrible, my 7 & 5 year olds get excited asking to eat the junk they see on TV. It's what I was raised on and I know better than to feed it to my children, but I also hate feeling like I'm depriving them of the foods they want. I switched to internet viewing because the ads are not so bad or constant as they are with cable. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What are your I can't wait until thoughts
Poku replied to sleeveme17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't wait until my back stops hurting. I can't wait until I can jump on a trampoline. I can't wait to let my husband pick me up again. I can't wait to run a 5k without any walking. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
Poku replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
1) My lower back pain makes it hard to do daily activities. 2) I want to be able to keep up with my young children and fit husband. 3) It would be nice to go shopping in any store, rather than looking for stores that cater to plus size. 4) My brother had 3 strokes last year at 29 yrs old. I'm about to turn 28 and am terrified. 5) I want to jump on a trampoline without being scared I'll break it. I want to stop being afraid to fall down. I want to run. I want to hike. I don't want to keep sitting in my living room anymore. I've managed to get significant weight off twice in the last 10 years, but I always find it again. Hopefully this kind of commitment will change me and the way I see food permanently. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Hey there! I just started my journey as well. Had my seminar 2/1, starting my PCP supervised diet 2/6, & 2/14 I have my first real appointment with the clinic. Fairly certain Dr Ahuja will be my surgeon. My bmi is 44 & I'm worried about losing too much on this diet as I'm not sure I have any comorbities. The only thing I've been dx'ed with is Degenerative Disc Disease which causes sciatica. Believe I am pre-diabetic too, but that may go away with a bit of weight loss. It's weird wanting to lose weight, but telling yourself not to lose x amount or you won't qualify. Anyway, excited to finally see someone starting the 6 month journey at the same time. Good luck to you! I hope it goes by quickly Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I see my PCP on Monday to start my 6 month supervised diet too. I lose really well when I manage to stick to them, but I fall off the wagon easily. Terrified that I may do "too well" on this diet and lose the opportunity to be sleeved, and with it, the chance at long term success. Anyway, I'm breastfeeding, so I can't be put on any WL medication. Assuming PCP will just want me to keep a diary and give me a set amount of calories to keep under & a goal for weekly exercise time. Oh no, that's what I'm afraid of. Maybe I need to push it back till she hits a year, that way if I do dry up she won't need formula. Thank you for sharing your experience! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have this and I'm not sleeved yet. It started a couple years ago and my BS will bottom out a few hours after sugary Snacks or meals. The lowest I recorded so far was 34 and I was incredibly incoherent. I was under the impression that it was a prediabetic issue, like you make too much insulin for the sugar and it becomes overkill. But I also have issues very similar to dumping syndrome as well. I really hope these things won't become magnified with surgery, that's terrifying. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

This is such a helpful thread!! I have anxiety and have been stressing about this since I decided I wanted WLS. Don't think I have unrealistic expectations or goals. I have struggled with depression/self harm but have been much better for years. Can being a stress eater disqualify you? Because that's me. It's often how I cope with my anxiety now that I don't smoke, but I am sure I can find a different outlet. Exercise helps but my back is so bad, it's hard to do much. I'm not too worried about the hormones released during weight loss, so long as it doesn't decrease production, because many moms lose while nursing naturally. I am a bit concerned about the medications given during/after surgery though, especially if I'll need pain management for a couple weeks. Definitely something I will talk to my dr about, but happy to see opinions & personal experiences, thank you both! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
