Considering Sleeve Surgery in Mexico
shannybananny71 replied to VDH's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I will be able to give you my input after my surgery in a couple weeks. Like you, I have no other issues. My BMI is 41. With each diet success and failure, it has been more difficult to start over again. I successfully lost 70 lbs several years ago but over the years have gained back about 40 lbs of that. My weight would go up and down about 20 lbs. I need help so I started looking into WLS. Once I made my decision, I found out that my insurance didn't cover it. I know a few people who have had the surgery in MX so started looking into it. I have chosen Dr. Illan based on his reputation, credentials and recommendation from a friend. Most of my family and friends freaked out but I told them that I am an intelligent person and did my homework. Now they are supportive. My adult sons were upset and told me that I don't need to lose weight. Haha! My dad is having the hardest time with it but that's because he thinks I have some underlying mental trauma that causes me to overeat, not just that I love food and use it for comfort. If you had told me 10 years ago that I would be having surgery in Tijuana, I would have laughed. Now, here I am, less than two weeks to go before the big day. Good luck in making your decision! I will come back on here and after my surgery and give an update. -
Anyone tried stomach taping or bandaging?

Congrats! You look beautiful in that dress! What about a Spanx skirt? I also like the idea of some sort of lining being added to the dress. Good luck and be sure to post a photo with your solution! -

Lots of helpful info. Thank you! I am afraid to ask my insurance about it because I don't want to call attention to it. -
Questions about bypass in Mexico?
shannybananny71 replied to whitneyisfab's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I think you should fill out the questionnaire for Dr. Illan and see what he recommends and why. I am choosing a sleeve over bypass because you cannot take NSAIDs after bypass (ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, etc.). However, it is my understanding if you currently have really bad acid reflux, you should go with bypass over the sleeve. My surgery with Dr. Illan is scheduled for March 6th. I have the same concerns about finding a doctor stateside and with insurance. It seems that the majority of people don't have problems with that and are able to find doctors to help them. My plan is to schedule a physical with my regular doctor three months after my surgery and then have the discussion with her then. -
I have made the decision to have gastric sleeve surgery and am considering having the surgery done in Mexico. There are a couple of concerns I have but one of the major concerns is how do you get follow up care once you are back home? My insurance does not cover WLS which is why I am considering MX so I would assume they will not cover follow up care.

Post surgery follow up care
shannybananny71 replied to shannybananny71's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I haven't received a direct quote from BP yet as I just filled out their questionnaire last night but it is in the $4500 range for gastric sleeve. I have been considering this for about three months now and kept going back and forth between having it done at a clinic near me for $20,000 or getting it done by a reputable doctor in Mexico. The more I have looked into Dr. Illan, the more confident I am in choosing him. -

$20,000 in Portland, Oregon. I am considering going to Dr. Illan. Everything I have read has been positive with no negatives.
