I have struggled with my weight my whole life, while I never have been what would be considered "obese" I have always had an extra 20-50 lbs at various times in my life. I was even a WW leader after having gotten to my goal and stayed at my goal for the three years I worked for that company.
When I first heard about the Lap Band I thought it would work for me. When I consulted a local doctor he would not take me because I didn't weigh enough. I have always been athletic and active and even at my highest weight (235) I was still physically active. I never look like I weigh as much as I do.
Anyway, I found a surgeon in Tijuana, who would take me! Having grown up in San Diego, I was familiar with Mexico. I made plans and flew into SD, was picked up by a driving and taken to Tijuana, I had the surgery the next day, spent a night in a hotel in Tijuana and flew home after a post-op check up.
I know not everyone would concern this, but the clinic had great patient care specialist and I had a lot of pre-op phone calls with him.
I lost about 50 lbs the first 5 months, really just effortless, I loved it. Then I had a major family crisis and I was not focused on food for quite a few months. I gained back some, by the next year I had gained back 20 lbs. I have been struggling with getting to my goal.
I found a local Doctor for adjustments through Lapband USA (no longer around), and went to him the first two years about every 6 months. Then last couple of years I have seen him just a few times. I have really not been eating to lose weight. I know I have to get back to more protein, less foods that are easily digested. I need work with my band!!
I know what I have to do to lose weight, eat less and exercise!!! I have to really by mindful of my food. Whether or not I have a band, what I put in my mouth is what matters!
