Knowing what you know now would you....get the Lapband again? Me.....I don't think I would. Lost about 30lbs to start and that's it. Recently I have gain back about 3-4lbs. Someone at work gained all of her weight back. Thoughts?

It's been a long while....May 2008 Banded. Lost 30lbs and have not lost any more....probably gained a couple. I'm not happy with the band....I like the fact that I haven't gain the biggest part of what I lost back...but the band hasn't made it easy or I'm just screwing up. Haven't been to the doctor over a year or more. My band is tight some days and pretty much tight in the morning. But I can eat anything and have never thrown up....I do slime on occasasion. I just read some posts that people said "there is no way I could eat more than one or two cups of food" Well guess what I can eat anything I want .... I may slime once in a great while....but I can eat a whole meal plus more. My doctor said the band should not stop you from eating just help you from feeling hungry.....well.... this isn't working!!! So my question to all you banders that have had success....does your band stop you from eating??? Maybe my band isn't tight enough...but I think it's close to being filled all the way. All your thoughts PLEASE!!!!! This thing cost $34,000 that my insuance paid....and I feel like it's a WAIST

Maybe this is taboo to say..... that the lapband is barbaric Don't get me wrong I LOVE MY BAND....but I have often thought about it as being barbaric when you think about it. You get cut open and have a ring tight around your stomach so you can't eat. The reason I bring this up is to ask if I'm the only one that thinks this way and just never said it????? I have a friend who is looking into getting the band and has asked me lots of questions just like I did in the start of it all....but not one person ever said it's barbaric. I'm wondering if I should tell her my true thoughts about it..........because if you don't have the mind set for it I could see it could bother you when you get it and get the first feeling of something stuck (I FREAKED OUT the first time...now it's not big deal cause I know the feeling and what happens) I just think of it as being barbaric. Anybody else feel the same???? I would do it again in a heart beat.......but I think it's barbaric if that makes sense

Doctor Teel only ask that you don't go out of town for 2 weeks after a fill. Other than that you can eat as normal.
-
Sounds like you have made it.............RESTRICTION!!! Funny you say hiccups too, because I started getting hiccups on my 6th fill and I find them to remind me that I must be in a good spot with my band.....cause with me it seems to be: Restriction = hiccups Also I would like to say that after my 6th fill I thought I was at the so called "sweet spot" but I got a fill yesterday after 4 months from my 6th fill and guess what..........I LIKE THIS 7th FILL EVEN MORE!!!!!!!! Hiccups and all....I will take it!!! Good Luck!!!

WOW!!! You all bring up good points that help explain it in a way I never thought of!!! Good one about the boobs  at least we get health benefits with our silicone! Glad I asked.....I really had not thought of it in all the other ways!!! I still think it's barbaric  but I won't give it back :glare: -
Mine have all been quick and painless. I can eat the same day....my doctor just asks that you don't go out of town for two weeks.
-
You can see that I got fills almost every week in the start.....I would say it's up to your doctor. Also my doctor lets you go back to eating the same day.....all he ask is that you don't go out of town for 2 weeks

It's been a while..help!!
LundyLane replied to Thegirlnextdoor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All I can say is go to the doctor no matter what....that is a HUGE part of making the lapband work!! I went today after not losing weight for 4 months because I thought I was at a good fill....but I could still eat alot (including junk at xmas) but I did not want to jump the gun and get to tight and start having problems....I did not eat as much as I could before the band.....but today I got another fill and it works ALOT BETTER as far as getting the full feeling!!!! It takes a while to know what your looking for as far as "the feeling". I never felt anything until about 3rd or 4th fill and I found out today I like it even tighter......I think I found my sweet spot today.....I hope. I keep learning every time I get a fill as to what it is I'm looking for. Hope this helps and remember even if you gain weight keep going to the doctor. -
I now am working until Midnight and HUNGRY after 8:00pm. My band seems to stop working late at night. I eat dinner at 6:15pm and then around 8:00 - 8:30 I start getting hungry and thinking what can I eat! When I get off work at midnight I go home and end up eating bad stuff. Any ideas on how to curve the hunger late at night??? Thinking of getting another fill but am afraid I will be to tight during the day. Any thoughts?????

Eating junk (chocolate, ice cream, candy, chips) will still go down the band with no problem! I know November and December I ate nothing but JUNK. Haven't gained any......but you won't lose eating JUNK.

How many times did you have to see a shrink?
LundyLane replied to blklab70's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had one 2 1/2 hour appointment....took like 3 paper test and talked with him for a few and that was it. -
If you had your band 6 months or longer and you keep losing weight.....are you watching and counting calories??? Or you just letting the band be your guide? I've heard some people on here say "Just let the band" I've lost about 30lbs and I haven't gained anything...but I've stopped losing. I haven't been counting calories but I walk and do upper body weights almost everyday....kinda on the fence about getting my band a little tighter. I get stuff stuck now....but I eat to fast and don't chew like I should .....but I slow down or stop when I start to slim  Your Thoughts???????????????

How long after a fill do stay on liquid diet?
LundyLane replied to TheWatcher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doctor says you can eat normal after the fill. Just don't go out of town for 2 weeks. -
Just curious I need to know!!!
LundyLane replied to LeslieR041906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink diet soda when I want it. I do find it hard to drink with food because it can give you that stuck feeling with all the bubbles mixing with the food. -
Is this all in my head??? Yesterday I was able to eat EVERYTHING and was hungry all day.....today my hurger is normal and I feel restricted as I should. Somedays things get stuck everyday and like yesterday nothing got stuck and I was hungry ALL DAY LONG.....what's up with that?? Today I seem ok like I should feel with the band. I'm on the fence as to get a fill or not because I have not lost any weight in about a month....but I haven't gain and I know I am eat the wrong things!! So do you all have days like what I said above??? Just wondering

Can you take prednisone/ibuprofen and get a band put in?
LundyLane replied to Leighann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and take Remicade and Methotrexate along with ibuporfen. I had to stop all three for two weeks before and two weeks after I had the lapband put in. I have taken prednisone in the past and I’m sure you would have to stop that for sometime before and after because like Remicade and Methotrexate it suppress your immune system. You will have to check with your doctor, but I don’t think it will stop you from getting the lapband….you will just have to deal with the pain for a little while in order to get it done. I took Darvect up to the day I had surgery. -
How long did you take pain meds?
LundyLane replied to Maribelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say the first 3 to 5 days are the hardest. After that you really start to feel better -
My doctor says no fills if you are are going out of town (plane or not) with in two weeks of the fill.
-
My doctor told me since I have been losing 1/2 lb a week I don't need a fill. He said wait until I start not losing or gaining weight. I am the same as you....it willpower....but it's getting harder and harder.

Should I get another Fill?
LundyLane replied to Jennifer44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your story sound like mine! I went for my for my last fill and had only lost 1lb in 2 weeks and my doctor tried to talk me out of the fill. He said I should leave well enough alone until I gain weight. I said "But I only lost 1/2lb a week" and he said it did not matter as long as I was losing and not gaining. I did talk him into a little more .25cc but I haven't lost anything since and don't go back until the middle of September. I guess I will listen to him as long as I'm losing slow. I know how you feel! -
so how long from start to finish??
LundyLane replied to mommyx2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Started in mid Feb 2008 got the band May 28, 2008. It all depends on your insurance and your doctor. -
How are people losing such a large amount of weight?
LundyLane replied to Long2BFree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the doctor today and he told me to be happy that I am losing about 1/2 lb a week now with no problems and I can eat anything without problems. He did say if you don't have much to lose (like me) then it comes off slower and to not go crazy with the fills if you have not gained or stopped losing weight. I did beg for a pinch more as far as a fill and he laughed and said I would not push it as long as your losing like you are, but being the nice doctor that he is.........he gave me a pinch more -
Can you still have soda's after being banded?
LundyLane replied to SusieC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor said none for 2 months after you get your band. I'm not a big drinker of pop.....but I have drank Diet Coke and other diet drinks from time to time since I've got my band with no problems, maybe just a little gas pressure from drinking it to fast but no big deal. Good Luck!
