    Regrets??

No regrets here, but I'm pretty new at the band  I have nothing bad to say at this point and sooooooooooooo glad I did not chicken out :crying: I will say this, that the first 3 days are the worst as far as not feeling good and hurting after surgery........but I would do it again in a heart beat
  3. This was my post opt diet - as you can see I was ok to eat cream of wheat and grits........not mashed potatoes until week three....go figure that one?????? isn't Cream of Wheat harder than mashed potatoes? Anyhow.........hope this helps :cursing: Day of Surgery and day after - Clear Liquids First 2 weeks - Full Liquids (High Protein shakes, yogurt, milk, pudding, custard, strained soup, Cream of wheat, grits, Cream of Rice, tomato juice) Weeks 3 & 4 - Soft foods (cottage cheese, eggs, canned chicken, tuna, or turkey, shaved deli meats, soft beans, oatmeal, mashed or boiled potatoes with no skins, canned fruit, well-cooked tender vegetables. Week 5 - Solid foods  regular textured introducing one new food at a time and monitor tolerance.

    Concerned about Hernia

I had one found at the time of my surgery, had no idea I had it, Doctor said he fixed it and it won't cause me any problems but would have if left alone.

    I'm teetering...

Totally know what your talking about! I did great on the pre-opt diet but I know I would of fell off the wagon if it wasn’t for knowing I was getting the surgery. I have also been doing great after the surgery and I have not even had a fill yet. I joked with my husband and said the doctor could have stabbed me in the stomach and put a bottle cap in for the port and I would lose weight. :tt2: Truth is I have lost weight on my own many times but always gain it back. I figured if this is what it takes then I’m doing it, getting SCARED TO DEATH  up to the day of surgery........ but would not change a thing now that it is over! :scared2: I can tell you this: On the pre-opt diet (low 1200 calorie real food) I was hungry all the time and it was hard not to cheat (I did cheat a time or two) but after the band I find even with no fills it's MUCH EASIER to stick to low calorie diet even around 1000 calories. So I look forward to getting my first fill next week. If I'm not hungry than this is gonna be easy!!!
  6. When something gets “stuck” do you feel it immediately? Or can it creep up on you?? I read the post on here the other day about someone saying they could not breath after getting something stuck for the first time and it kind of scared me. I’m just now introducing soft foods and scared I’m going to eat something and think I’m ok and then 10 to 15 minutes later be hit hard with the OH NO THAT IS STUCK.

    The feel of the band

You have no idea that it is there.......other than the port you can feel if you push down on it.
  8. Popcorn  - Does it go down for you?

    i finally feel hungry

This is what my doctor gave me as post opt eating: Day of Surgery and day after - Clear Liquids First 2 weeks - Full Liquids (High Protein shakes, yogurt, milk, pudding, custard, strained Soup, Cream of wheat, grits, Cream of Rice, tomato juice) Weeks 3 & 4 - Soft foods (cottage cheese, eggs, canned chicken, tuna, or turkey, shaved deli meats, soft Beans, oatmeal, mashed or boiled potatoes with no skins, canned fruit, well-cooked tender vegetables. Week 5 - Solid foods :cursing: regular textured introducing one new food at a time and monitor tolerance.
  10. Sounds normal to me! 3 to 5 days out and I really started feeling better all the way around. Today I can't even tell I had anything done, except my hunger is not like it was before the band

HELP cannot get rid of gas

Takes a good week and a half to start to go down.....I think I still have some in the lower part. Hang in there - walk, drink, and do whatever else you have been told. I took Gas-X strips but can't say they did much, but it couldn't hurt
  12. One week and two days out from surgery feeling great but not real physically different (if you know what I mean), standing next to my closet I remembered that a LONG TIME AGO (I guess hoping someday the weight would magically disappear) I bought a couple shirts that I really liked but did not fit into at all, not even close. So I thought what the heck lets see how close I am to getting in them (totally thinking not gonna happen). Well guess what!!!! THEY FIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Talk about opening up a whole new world in the clothing line! You know....... that one size that you always look at because the tops are cute but they never have that top in your size. I can’t tell you what a impact and thrill it was and still is!!! As I pulled all my clothes out of the closet and modeled the “they fit now” clothes and “look how big this is” clothes to my 19 year old daughter, I had to laugh because my daughter looked at me with a “that’s great Mom” look, but then she said “Your not going to wear those” implying that the old clothes that have hung in the back of the closet needed to be updated. Needless to say - I'm flying high!! :Dancing_wub:

    Camera down throat

I only had a simple x-ray of my chest after surgery.........that's it.

When To Go Back To Work

Two weeks would have worked....but I took off 5 weeks to get past the first fill
  15. LundyLane

    So I shouldn't have....

Remeber this - The few people who have trouble tend talk. People who are doing great and love the band tend not to talk because they are off doing other things and don't even think about their band. I take Remicade and was posting on all the boards asking questions and reading all the horror stories before hand and in the beginning, but now that I have been taking Remicade for 4 years I never get on the boards and tell people that I am a success story and that it's changed my life. I work with MANY people who have had the band and they all say after a while you forget they have it. They have all lost weight and they all LOVE THEIR BAND! One even had to have hers taken out because of slippage (do to the doctor) and she is BEGGING our insurance to pay to get it back because she has gained 20lbs since it was removed - that was a eye opener for me because she has been thru alot but still wants it back.

    Pain

When I woke up the pain was bad and I had trouble breathing for the first few hours because I could not take a deep breath, but with the pain meds given in the hospital it was controlled. When I got home after spending the night at the hospital I needed to take pain meds every 4 hours for the first 2 nights and then the 3rd night I slept pretty good taking the meds before bed and when I got up. I did sleep in my bed not in a chair like alot of other say they do. First three days seemed to be the hardest but I would do it again in a heart beat if needed. I have heard of people getting “pain balls” (http://www.askyoursurgeon.com/onqcbloc.php) and going home with them, but my doctor said he stopped using those because he had a few people have reactions to the numbing stuff in them. The ball has tubes that run inside you to numb the area for up to 5 days.
  19. Post-Opt Diet - What is/was yours??? :grouphug: Here is mine: Day of Surgery and day after - Clear liquids First 2 weeks - Full Liquids (High Protein shakes, yogurt, milk, pudding, custard, strained Soup, Cream of wheat, grits, Cream of Rice, tomato juice) Weeks 3 & 4 - Soft foods (cottage cheese, eggs, canned chicken, tuna, or turkey, shaved deli meats, soft Beans, oatmeal, mashed or boiled potatoes with no skins, canned fruit, well-cooked tender vegetables. Week 5 - Solid foods :behindsofa: regular textured introducing one new food at a time and monitor tolerance.

    Psychologist

I had to take three written test to make sure I could understand simple things like number patterns and the meaning of words. I was nervous about going because I had never been to anything like that but it was all good.......I passed LOL I think the Doctor needed to go see someone himself, he was a little weird
  22. I turned yellow around my main port site too........still am a little yellow. Mine is just bruising, you want to look for redness because that would be a sign of infection.

    New to this site

I was banded 1 1/2 weeks ago and feeling great! I was nervous and reading on here all the time (still am reading). I worried that I would not be able to do it either but guess what - as soon as you have it you know you have to do it and you can't take it out so you have no choice but to do it  I can tell you that I did not have to go on a liuqid diet just a low calorie pre-opt diet and I cheated on that and was scared to death the day of surgery they would come in the room and say WE KNOW YOU WENT TO APPLEBEE'S THREE DAYS AGO SO WE CANCELED YOUR LAPBAND  but it never happened cause I got my band!! I thought about practicing my eating too, but it never happened.......I found after I woke up the fullness you have from the surgery slows you down anyhow and you naturally slow yourself into it. Then when I got home I was SCARED  to drink to much cause you think your gonna blow something out of place. I went out to dinner with my husband last night (we got stuck out and needed food) so he had and steak, bread, salad and all and I ordered chicken Soup and mashed potatos and ate REALLY SLOW making sure I took out all the meat and chewed the rest up to nothing - I won't lie I was SARED  and I only ate a small amount of the mashed potatos (first time I had them) and I got SO FULL on such little amount and it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOD and my husband eating in front of me did not bother me at all because I was FULL AND HAPPY  If this band is gonna work even better after some fills this is gonna be NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got so hungry on the pre-opt diet I had trouble sticking to it........but HEY!! If your not hungry you don't need to cheat on the diet!!!! I'm gonna LOVE THIS BAND!!!!!!!! Good Luck to you!!!!!

    Feelings of choking?

I was banded about 1 1/2 weeks ago - feel great! First three days for me were the hardest but nothing I wasn't expecting. Hurt in the port site and it was hard to lay down in the bed, but I did, I was just sure to take my pain meds every 4 hours to keep it at bay. Port site is still sore today but nothing that needs pain meds. Never had the feeling to vomit or choke and by day two I was sucking down all my luiqids with no problem! Good Luck! ps - just had puree' tuna fish with lite mayo and relish YUM YUM and VERY FILLING!!!!
  25. Ok be honest :tt2: - after your banding: Do you still count calories? Do you follow all the rules like no sugar just sugar free? No caffeine? Eat your protein first getting 60 grams a day? Eat three meals a day? I have heard some people say they follow every rule and others say that don't do anything and still have lost the weight. I just got banded on Wednesday :w00t: and I am using Fitday.com to keep track of my intake and I plan on doing that even if I mess up here and there.
