Post Op clothes
1poundatatime replied to 3boysmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
On the flight home I wore a sports bra, t-shirt, and yoga pants. I could wear anything as long as the waist band didn't rub right against the incisions. My jean were fine (until I lost weight and needed a belt!) -
Did you "force" yourself to eat things post op that you never liked before?
1poundatatime replied to FatPharm's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't force myself to eat things I don't like, but I do think it's worth trying new things! Especially since it doesn't sound like you've had them recently. We live on the west coast of Canada and have a freezer full of wild salmon and halibut. Both are delicious. A tasty and simple way to cook salmon is to spread some mayo on top and season with dill. Bake until flakey (but still moist, dry fish is no good!). My kids inhale it! -
What the heck is wrong with me???
1poundatatime replied to Mandybb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Live and learn! Thanks for sharing! In the early days it's hard to imagine being able to eat much of anything, so it's a good reminder of the importance of sticking with the plan and always being prepared. -

Sleeve, Cholecystitis, Regret!
1poundatatime replied to Chris Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've lots 22 lbs in a month! That is fantastic! You should be pleased and proud of your progress! With the additional surgery, it's bound to take you longer to start feeling yourself again. You've had a rough go of it, but it's going to getting better from here on out. Honestly, at 6 weeks out, I feel completely back to normal - except I can't eat very much lol As for protein replacements, I agree they get old fast! I got to a point where the thought of drinking them made me feel sick. However, your protein intake is so incredibly important! How are you doing on your protein targets? (and fluid for that matter, dehydration will make you feel terrible too). If you aren't reaching them, are you at least getting closer every day? Aim for progress. When I quit the protein powders, I had to be extra diligent about what I chose to eat. Literally every single bit needs to be as nutritious as possible. Cottage cheese and greek yogurt were my go-to snacks. Moist scrambled egg, tuna salad, avocado (for the good fats) made up most meals. Refried beans with a bit of melted cheese were nice. Hang in there. It gets better -
I've changed about food, my family hasn't.
1poundatatime replied to BostonGary's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a mom of 5 small kids and do 100% of the shopping as well as the vast majority of the cooking. For the first two weeks, my hubby stepped up big time and took over most of that. I simply wasn't thinking about food. I love cooking and not being able to eat (not even wanting to eat) made meal prep such a chore. After about two weeks, I got back at it and now that I'm able to eat (in tiny portions), it's become much easier for me. The other day I made an amazing roast beef dinner and enjoyed every bite of roast, gravy, brussels, and carrots... I skipped the potatoes It's a tricky balance with family. I'm the only one who struggles with my weight. -
No, I don't want no SCALE
1poundatatime replied to NightPilgrim's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a scale and weigh myself daily. BUT, I don't rely on that alone as a measurement of success. I've had times where the scale doesn't move - it's inevitable. So, I also look at body fat %, measurements, photos, and, of course, how my clothes are fitting. And for trending weight loss I look at Saturdays weights only. Day to day loss doesn't matter much, but over the course of the week speaks more to how things are going. -
I didn't use baby food at all. There are lots of soup out there that work. Yogurt and shakes rounded out the diet

Congratulations!!

March sleevers hows everyone doing??
1poundatatime replied to The thinner me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm tracking my progress a variety of ways... weight, body fat percentage, measurement, pictures, and of course, how my clothes fit. I was stuck at 215 for about a week (technically a stall is longer than that) , I started feeling a little frustrated, so I pulled out a pair of "too small pants" that had been too tight on the tummy... And they fit!! Progress!!! Think about those NSV and all the little things. The other morning I got out of bed wearing a short nightie and noticed how much smaller my legs look. My rings are fitting looser. My bras need to be on the tightest hooks. I have big calfs and can't wear tall boots (not even my hubby barn boots) but today?? I was walking past them and though "maybe??" and low and behold, my leg slides in! Celebrate every single little moment! -
March sleevers hows everyone doing??
1poundatatime replied to The thinner me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on Mar. 16 and have lost 22 lbs since then (45 lbs total) I'm thrilled with my loss. I just had a week long "plateau" but the scale is moving again I am getting 800-1000 calories a day and consistently hit 60-70g protein. Fluids are good too. So far I don't have any aversions (well, protein shakes gag)... -
Quick & Easy Suggestions?
1poundatatime replied to chuswysly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only about 6 weeks out, but I keep the fridge stocked with cheese strings, meat, greek yogurt, apple sauce for snacks. If I need a quick meal that I haven't prepared for I have several cans of soup in the pantry (kinda high in sodium, but better than some options). I also set aside leftovers from the night before for lunches. -
DOES BUTT GET SMALLER?
1poundatatime replied to BGOV1225's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I'm losing fairly evenly all around. It all depends on the individual. -
Wahoo! Today my ticker tells me I've lost 42 lbs and have 41 lbs to go! Crossed the half-way mark! I feel so good now that I can't imagine how great it will be to get to goal!

HELP! Hating all protein shakes
1poundatatime replied to mxpxchik11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for these ideas!! -
So far (knock on wood!) I haven't had any problems myself, but it seems to be very very common to have changes due to the hormonal shifts happening. From what I've read, it seems to sort itself out with time...

No liquids for 24 hours normal?
1poundatatime replied to evesta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Different doctors, different guidelines. I had water and ice chips in hospital, and was clear fluids from then on... -
I was going to say the same. Maybe bulking up the muscle back there will provide a new "pillow" It sounds horribly painful.

HELP! Hating all protein shakes
1poundatatime replied to mxpxchik11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me at least, it wasn't that my tastes changed, I just hit a wall after so many weeks of protein shakes that I can't bear to drink another sip. -
HELP! Hating all protein shakes
1poundatatime replied to mxpxchik11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After I drink one, I mix the next and leave it in the fridge until I'm ready to drink it. Seems to be smoother that way. -
HELP! Hating all protein shakes
1poundatatime replied to mxpxchik11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was totally fine with the shakes until one day last week. I simply couldn't choke it down. I threw the last of it out. The thought of taking another sip was nauseating. So, I'm experimenting and seeing how much protein I can take in without them. Hopefully it will be enough, because I honestly don't think I can handle any more protein powder. -
HELP! Hating all protein shakes
1poundatatime replied to mxpxchik11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found the best way to mix them is in a shaker cup. Any container with a good lid will do. A quick shake works better than any amount of stirring. -
Best pjs for the hospital?
1poundatatime replied to kad_82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hate hospital gowns, so brought some loose PJ pants and a tank top... And flip flops for when I was up and about. -
I'm a nurse who works in the OR and we wear hospital scrubs... with colour coded size tags on the back for all to see... ugh Pre-op I've worn size "dark green" or XL for years. I had my first day back at work this week and... I wore "light blue" tag pants. LARGE! I was so excited. I probably could have worn a large top as well, but there weren't any. lol Pre-op, I made a list of NSV to look forward to and this was one of the first things I wrote down. Can't wait to scratch more off the list!
