Hi!! I had my heart set on the sleeve. I had an upper GI done & was diagnosed with pretty bad acid reflux. When the nurse told me I couldn't get the sleeve, I told her I didn't want the surgery but I'd speak with the surgeon either way. The following day I went into a supper group where I voiced my concerns & many in the group actually had the RNY vs the sleeve. I was initially worried about malabsorption and future pregnancies. After that group and speaking with my surgeon, who everyone has high praises for. I feel more comfortable with getting the RNY than the sleeve.

I went 13 years without soda and then fell off the wagon for 11 months.. now I've kicked the habit and it's all really mental tho ., if we think about it - all the sugar is an added factor as to why we're all in this forum [emoji848] Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Gastric bypass versus Sleeve
KGee88 replied to Moffett84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just found out I have acid reflux says my surgeon - idk how cause I have 0 symptoms. I was set on the sleeve but am fine with the RNY. I'm about 100 lbs over my "ideal weight" and there's a 12lb difference with the RNY allowing me to lose more. I have an insane sweet tooth so i feel that the RNY would make/help me make better choices. I almost talked myself out of the surgery but will be meeting with the surgeon this week. If the reflux is mild, I don't want to run the risk of making it worse with surgery because it's an unknown Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Hello! Anyone have NYSHIP Empire Plan (United Health Care/ Blue Cross Blue Shield) I'm currently going through the Bariatric program with UHS here and the coordinator told me that we can't submit any paperwork until 90 days from 2/2, which will bring us to May, for approval to insurance. I'm curious in how long it took for approval & surgery. I'm almost 1/2 through the program. And am trying to envision a timeline .. I'm hopefully for early June. I'm right there with you! I've meet with all, I see the nutritionist on Monday tho I'm excited that this will go by quickly which it is but also slow Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I feel y'all. I went to an informational in Jan and now I'm meeting with the nutritionist on Monday. Time is flying but also going so slow .. I have to take 6 support groups and I can't make the first one cause of work and it pushes the completion of my requirements back by 3 weeks. Slightly annoying but I'm hopeful to make an earlier support group so I can submit everything by May 5. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Interesting. I'm also in New York (Upstate) but my bariatric coordinator has been a great help. I meet with the surgeon on Monday. Now I feel like I should call the insurance back but I've read the policy they have me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

United Health Care Insurance
KGee88 replied to Sleeve1stFitNext's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke with UHC and there was no mention of 6 months of testing, dieting and education. I'm currently in a bariatric program through my local hospital that has 3 months of all that- then after 90 days I'll submit all my paperwork to the insurance for final approval. But I meet with my surgeon on Monday so maybe I'll get information. I'm not opposed to continual waiting but I hope it's not an additional 6 months to the 3 I'm currently working through. Might I ask what state you're in? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I've told some folks that I'm getting the WLS. I'm 5'3 at 250. I've always been "curvy" or heavy or fat whichever one fits for the day. Everyone I've told has said the same thing, "really? But you're doing well in the gym. You look good" and I'm like well if you've been carrying excess weight around for 28 years, you'd look good too I'm assuming. I agree, this is for US and a healthier us. I'm tired of the knee aches, the thighs who can't stop saying hi to each other, having to buy clothes that are $$$ the price of others, taking two pills every morning and worrying about my blood pressure, worrying about having a high risk pregnancy. All of that - I'm tired of. So this, is for US. No need to hid anything well anymore:) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Boy, this is a lot of appointments
KGee88 replied to Seraya's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's how I feel!! I have 90 days to submit everything for approval aka 3 months to do the program. Same appointments- Nutritional counseling , education counseling, family support counseling, physical activity, surgeon meet & greet, 6 support groups. My coordinator said that after May 3 we can submit and my last support group is May 4th. I'm in the same boat, told my boss but made a lot of morning appointments. Hey Everyone! I made the decision to get the gastric sleeve about a month ago - been tossing it back & forth for almost a year. Met for my initial intake Tuesday & qualified for the program. Submitted all the paperwork for my insurance this week and am hoping to hear back in the next couple weeks about a yay or nay. But I do have my psych eval next Friday .. I'm nervous cause I don't know what to expect. Wish me luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
