I can't get used to being thinner!
Dennis Robins replied to DianeJarrett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You’re not the only one! I see myself running in my shadow and think...who is that? I see myself in store windows and really don’t think it’s me at first glance. The bones in my knees drive me crazy at night. And, new clothes don’t fit right very long. All good problems to have but also difficult. My husband says I’m ‘finding myself’ again...but as soon as I find her she changes again. From a style perspective that’s weird (and expensive.) I can’t settle into ‘me’ until I stop losing weight. Surgery "Cover Story" for friends, coworkers, etc
Dennis Robins replied to HealthyPursuit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Gall Bladder surgery has the same incisions, recovery time and some of the symptoms. It can alter your eating habits, food tolerance etc. Best Wishes and I totally support your decision to keep it private. I felt the same until the weight started to fall off. Once I felt more confident in my decision, I wanted to share to challenge the negativity around Bariatric Surgery. I've had amazing feedback. BUT, it is your choice!! -
I stalled out around three weeks as well. Hang in there.

I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and like you, at one week I was practically convinced something was wrong. Did I go through this for no restriction? Why was everyone else so sick? I could drink and take pureed foods with no issues. THEN....at exactly 2 weeks, I must have regained feeling in my stomach. 3 oz of soup and 15 mins later I seriously thought my stomach might explode. I had eaten the same soup in the same quantity for a week! How could this be? Ever since, my portions have been less because i can feel the pain now. So my advice would be to take it SLOW and eat LESS than you can until your feeling returns.

How long did you take off from work?
Dennis Robins replied to XmeghannstarX's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Early bird here...Im a Financial Controller, so desk work. I would not have been ready to be on my feet ALL day before two weeks. My friend is a nurse and went back after two weeks with an appendix operation. She found that she pushed, pulled and lifted more than she should. Maybe consider a little extra time? -
I'm two weeks post op today and have been on puréed foods for a week. Vitamix soups blended to liquid have been going well. I have comfortably been eating 2-3oz of soup or 2oz of cottage cheese. Last night I ate 3oz of a potato/chicken/spinach vitamix soup completely puréed but a little thicker than liquid due to the potato starch. No problem. THEN....I had the same thing for lunch today and ended up in excruciating pain in the stomach area. I haven't had any pain in my stomach, only a tightness in my chest in the beginning if I took a swallow too much the first couple days. Is it possible I suddenly regained feeling in my stomach?? Or, did I eat too much somehow and blow my staples out? The pain lasted about 45 mins. I laid down on my left side (thank you Lord for a couch in my office) and then it eased. It's like I am suddenly VERY 'aware' of my stomach. I never want to eat again. Anyone have this experience?

How long did you take off from work?
Dennis Robins replied to XmeghannstarX's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My Dr recommends 2 weeks but told me he had some Thursday surgeries go back to work the following Monday. That's exactly what I did. Surgery 2/9. Back to work 2/13. No issues. I think it just depends on you. -
I moved to pureed foods at 1 week and I have the same concern. I had a whole cup of soup last night and no pressure, no restriction. Granted, it was a completely liquefied Vitamix recipe, but still. I need restriction. I can lose weight. I can't keep it off. I need this restriction to be there when my willpower fails me. Worried.

I wish I knew more about all the surgery philosophies and techniques. Some get drains, some stay in the hospital, others don't get drains, I was only there for a few hours, some in clears for weeks, other on full liquids right away. The process seems so different for everyone. And, from what I can tell it varies by the surgeon more than patient. I'm usually such a researcher on all things medical, but I didn't want to talk myself out of it so I didn't read any medical journals for this journey. Anyone have resources on this?

This same thing hit me on night #2. It has since passed. Hang in there and be confident in your decision!

Feb 9th Sleeve - Friend or Mentor Needed

I found that back percussion (someone banging on your back) really helped break up the gas for me and felt wonderful. My nurses did it several times and told my husband to do it as needed. -

In my pre-op classes there were four of us. We were all scheduled for outpatient procedures and planned to go home the same day. I went home within a couple hours of my procedure. -
I've been on Vitamin pills since one day post op. Have you consulted your doctor? I would be nervous to miss my vitamins :-/

Can't keep anything down
Dennis Robins replied to mmello2@me.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pain meds and the Zofran were causing me to be nauseous. I cut those out and felt great. No more chest pain! I had a little allergic reaction to my Steri strips so the doctor told me to talk Benedryl. It really helps me sleep and no pain meds at 2 days post op. -
New To This Site Vegan Considering Gastric Sleeve
Dennis Robins replied to NEWLIFEFREEDOM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it would be very hard to stick to a vegetarian much less vegan diet and get in your protein and other nutrients. (You may be saying...but you don't really need as much protein as people think....I know that's what I said in the beginning...but it's not as much of anything.) Having practiced both vegan and vegetarian for a short time, I can't imagine adding that restriction on top of the restriction of volume. Please do lots of research before moving forward.
