Brand Spankin' New all of this! Guide me!
CarolWA replied to Alisomniac's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Alisomniac, When I started this journey, I called my insurance company and found out exactly what I needed for my surgery to be covered. They sent me all the papers I needed, to know what they expected of me. I have regents/blue cross and had to have a year of seeing a dr. or nutritionalist for my weight. So I've had a long journey. I had so many test. Sleep apnea, colonoscopy, lung tests, blood tests, ultra sound, EKG, and of course the phyc eval. These are not required by insurance in most cases. I think it's the dr. decision, and they are all different. Mine is a real stickler. I'm on my pre op diet now, and it's nothing but Sugar free pops, sugar free jello, strained soup, and 3 protein drinks a day. Tons on Vitamins. Some people on this forum get to eat like a lean cuisine meal each day with their protein drinks. I would love that. Does your insurance even require you to have a referral? Mine didn't. I just did a lot of research on wl drs. and picked one. Then attended his seminar. I think most of them have seminars. My surgery date is May 6th, and I didn't think it would ever get here. I wish you luck on your journey, but unfortunatly, it will probably not be as fast as you would like it to be. -

New to Lifestyle change!!!
CarolWA replied to Calicreme's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would love it if I could have any veggies or fruit. My pre op is liquid only for 2 weeks. 3 Protein drinks, Strained Soups, SF popscicles, and SF Jello. That's it. I'm on my 5th day. Doing good. Would like to chew something, but, oh well. It will end soon. "]http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wpPxSWE/weight.png' alt='weight.png'> -
What are the top three things that have made you successful with the Lap Band?...
CarolWA replied to KarynA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow Sweetbean70. Love your ideas on protein. I'm copying that and using it after my surgery. I love all those things. -
I did a tracker when I first signed up, but haven't found it since. Is there somewhere on the site that you can get info on how to use it?

Let's be honest....please!
CarolWA replied to willbaskinnygirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
there is a "lap band complications" on this forum. There are quite a few people there that this surgery didn't help. They may have some better advice for you. Sorry it didn't work for you. -
Well, my surgery is May 6th. Met with the surgeon yesterday. Didn't like him at all. He was rude. Told me the 25 pounds I lost with the dietician didn't count. Says I need to lose 30 pounds. In 2 weeks!!! give me a break. I think he glanced at me twice and never cracked a smile. He's asian and I had to keep asking him to repeat things. I think that upset him. Kept telling me I was rationalizing for not losing the 10% of my weight. The truth was, I thought I had lost 25 of the 30 that was required. He said it was too long ago. Excuse me!! it was Jan and Feb. I'm going to do the best I can in the next 2 weeks on the pre op. I have to go see him and get weighed the day before surgery. He'll let me know then if he's going to do the surgery. Any body lost 30 pounds on the pre op?? Wish me luck!

Did this happen to anyone else?
CarolWA replied to new_journey4me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Strange. I would call the surgeons office and see if they got an OK. They might know before you. Good Luck! -
What do you want from you weight loss?
CarolWA replied to HAL380's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefully, to be able to walk more than 100 feet. My knees, hips, and back are constantly in horrible pain whenever I walk. And, Hopefully, live a little longer to enjoy my grand kids. At 60 years old, I don't have much vanity left anymore, just to be pain free, BUT, looking decent, would be a wonderful side affect. -

Questions for my surgeon
CarolWA replied to amey_idaho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think your questions are great. You have every right to know what ever you want to know about your surgery. In fact I'm going to take some of your questions down to ask my surgeon. I haven't even seen him yet. My surgery is May 6th. I did see him at my very first seminar, when I was deciding on a surgeon. I had no idea I would'nt see him again until a week before surgery. I met with his nurse or assistant, or who ever she was. I'm not real sure how I feel about this. It's not what I expected. But I am taking some of your questions with me when I do see him. Good Luck with your visit and your surgery. -
My surgery is May 6th also. We should keep in touch and see how each other is doing. I too, start my pre op diet on April 22nd.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your father. I too am in Washington state. My surgery will be May 6th, by Dr. Oh. He's in Federal Way. He takes my insurance which is Regence/Blue Cross. Have you tried his office? I would definitely check with other doctors. I wonder what they're thinking is on not taking insurance for the first visit? Hope things start going better for you. The pain of your loss will get better with time. Carol

Let me know how your surgery goes, since mine is the next day. Good Luck

and haven't been able to stop eating since. The Dr. office called and told me the surgery date would be May 6th. I've done most of the tests and I saw a dietian for a year. I thought I pretty much had my mind set for this, so what's up with the eating. I think I'm afraid I'll never eat normal again. Which I realize is a good thing, but so much of life is centered around food. It's kind of scary. Can't wait to have it done, but nervous at the same time. Did you guys have all these feelings? Does it stop, does the eating stop? I eat every day like it's my last meal. I don't start the liquid diet till April 22nd. I'll be 10 pounds heavier by then.:frown:

Thanks for the advice. I love steak too and have had it a couple times. I plan on it being my last full meal. I'm going to get back to eating real slow and maybe that will help.
