Thanks for asking, I am doing ok. It's been hard getting all the liquids in, because I get pain when it goes down. I assume that is gas pain, so I'm just trying to walk around and move as much as possible. I really hope this week is the worst of it.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I am doing much better, and was released from the hospital after one night. I used the Biotine and ice chips for the dry mouth. I was given chicken broth, jello, various protein packets to mix in water, and decaf tea. But, I was only able to sip a few spoonfuls of the broth, and it took a while before I was able to drink the liquid protein. Now that I'm home, I will try to drink the Premier shakes and the other liquid protein that I have. Luckily I haven't had too much gas pain, my abdomen is sore on the right, but it's tolerable. I feel swollen and I'm sure I'm filled with fluids, so I don't expect to lose too much this first week, but feel really hopeful for the future of this journey.

Thanks, will ask about that. My mom got me some Biotene and it's helping.

Hi Everyone, I was sleeved today (March 13th), and it's now 11:45pm and I feeling pretty good. I was kinda annoyed that surgery was scheduled late, I didn't have to be at the hospital until 1pm. I had a lot gas pain in recovery, but now it's minimal. The biggest issue now is dry mouth and little soreness from my incisions. They are requiring me to sleep with CPAC mask on even though I don't have sleep apnea. The surgeon thinks I'm doing really good, might let me go home tomorrow. They are giving me Tylenol & oxycodone, and neuontin plus zofran and a patch for nausea. I've also been cleared to drink Water the first night. Thats about all I can remember right now, and I wish everyone else a successful recovery as well.

Good luck to you, hope everything goes well!

I asked about nail polish at my pre-op appt, and was told it would be ok as long as I didn't have Shellac or Acrylic on them. The nurse said the oxygen reader that they put on your finger would not be able to get an accurate read. So, I plan to get a regular mani/pedi without any no-chip or gel. I think hair extensions will ok, your hair will probably be put into one those blue caps during surgery anyway. I'm just gonna wash mine, and mold it down (I have a short, relaxed cut), and hope for the best

I've made it to day 5 of liquids, and it hasn't been as bad as I thought it would be. Surprisingly, the first 2 days were the easiest for me, but by day 3 I was tired of chocolate shakes and really wanted food. I'm doing the Atkins shakes and all the flavors taste the same to me. I'm supposed to drink 5 a day, but the past two days I've only been able to drink 4 (I was full). But, I'm proud of myself for making it this far and not complaining too much, and I'm happy with how fast the pounds are coming off. Tomorrow I go to the Anesthesia Clinic at Loyola for Pre-Admission, and then surgery will be Monday morning.

My surgeon recommended the bypass for me as well because he was concerned about my acid reflux. But I was already aware that it could get worse after the sleeve, and he said it was ultimately my decision. So, I'm going with the sleeve, because I believe it fits my needs better. I was not/have not been subscribed anti depressants, so I can't really help you in that case. I would just go with what your gut/heart wants and focus on the healthier you that you're striving for. Best of luck to you and stay strong!

3 days away and all I can think about

I can't wait to see how much room is left on a plane too. Needing the seatbelt extender was a wake up call for me. I want to be able to walk up the stairs to my apt without being so out of breath. Buy less expensive clothes Not have to lift my skin up in the shower Not having pain from some part of my body everyday And becoming more healthy, confident, and social -
Today is day one for me, and I threw out all of my temptations last night. I hope it works! Luckily it will be a pretty busy week at work for me, so hopefully that will keep my mind off it. Good luck to everyone!

I found out from a phone call from my doctors office this morning. But I started calling GEHA every few days to check the status. They would only tell me it was pending approval, and that I would be notified via mail.
-
March 13th So nervous, but ready!
-
For anyone else that may have GEHA, it only took about 1 week for approval. I just found out this morning that my surgery was approved. My doctor's office sent the request on 2/10/17, so it only took 10 days. Also, in my previous post I was concerned about my first dietician appointment not counting toward the 6 month diet, as many insurances require 6 follow ups after the first appointment. I had my first visit on September 2, 2016 and my last on February 6th, 2017, and then approved today. So, I'm very happy with the process and quick turn around time from the insurance.

Wow, two days is really quick. Congrats! The insurance approval is the part has me worried the most, I really hope GEHA works as fast as your insurance.
