  1. Hey all, I'm preparing myself for surgery and was just wanting know that if you could do one thing differently in pre or post op what would it be? Or maybe one thing you're really glad you did?
  2. I'm in the process of trying to get RNY and I'm just wondering how soon y'all returned to work. I work in the medical field and do a lot of physical work. Walking, standing, bending, lifting (50 lbs or so), crouching, reaching etc, for 10 hours a day When did you guys return to work, or when we're you able to attain this level of activity? Looking to hear from those that had rny specifically. Thanks!

    Best friend totally unsupportive.

Wow. I was actually living with my bff who disagreed with my decision to pursue WLS and she was so upset by it that she kicked me out. Yea. It turns out she wasn't as much as a friend as I thought. In any case, I'm still going through the process, I know that it will make me healthier and happier in the end. And there are other people who support me!

    Clothes

I had the same issue except when I was gaining weight. I had all these smaller clothes that I loved. At first I kept them because I thought for sure id use them again one day. Boy was I wrong. I got rid of a little at a time. First the things I never really liked. And then the things that I did kinda like because I wasn't losing any weight. And finally I only had a few pieces left that I really really loved and hoped id fit again. But as time went on I eventually got rid of those too because it was just clutter at that point. I brought my clothes to goodwill. Anyways, it's kinda hard to let go. But just know that you'll be getting even cuter clothes down the line!

How soon did you return to work?

Thanks everyone for all the input! Thanks everyone for all the input!
  6. Thanks! Unfortunately, it's very common that insurance won't cover a nutritionist. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App Darn. Oh well thanks!
  7. Hey everyone. So I have my initial 3 hour evaluation appointment. Nurse practicioner, nutrition, and physical therapist. My insurance is saying that they'll cover the NP and PT appointments but not the nutrition appointment. Has anyone had this issue? And if it's a requirement for bariactric surgery, which my insiurance said they'll cover, then shouldn't they cover nutrition as well? The appointment is $215 and I'd really just rather not pay that!
  8. Of course I'm glad the surgery is covered. Was just wondering if that's a common thing people see since nutrition is so vital to the whole bypass process.

    What would you do differently?

That's a good idea, although you kinda already have to do that with the preop diet yeah? Or did you start before that even?

    What would you do differently?

That's why I want to have the surgery right now in my life. No kids, no spouse, just myself. I feel like my life will be much more fulfilling going forward with this tool to keep me in check and keep me healthy
  11. From what I understand biotin doesn't prevent hair loss or make your hair grow faster, but it does allow for new hair to come in healthier. So likely you'll still have hair loss but if you're on biotin it will come back healthy and pretty.

    Surgery date 2/7/2017

No. Thankfully my date was a few weeks away. My date is set for the 7th of February. And yes he put me on a strict diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. I start my diet on Monday. It consists of 4 Protein shakes, 1 high protein snack and 1 limited meal. My process took 6 months. Insurance requirements. I had to go to monthly weight management clases. I had to get clearance from a few specialties. And attend mandatory support groups. Which in reality, was all great. I learned a lot in the weight management classes and got to see both the good and the bad in the support groups from people who have already done the procedure. The process was a bit long for my liking but very well worth it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App That's awesome to hear. I'm dreading that I'll have to wait a year to get my date. Of course it's all depends on insurance it sounds like so well see! Good luck to you! Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App

    Already sleeved question

I made the decision to keep my journey to myself and only a few close friends know about any of it. The process is hard enough already that I don't think I could take it if my family/coworkers/whoever gave me grief for my decision. They don't understand that chronically obese people spend their lives trying to be not obese. In time (when the weight loss is super obvious probably) I'll likely tell them. 15. Ummmm....you do realize that different types of lighting can account for tonal changes in a photograph????? Hair color changes made you question the veracity of the picture???? SMH....I guess if anyone decides to post a WLS before/after picture, they'll need to make sure the pictures are taken with THE EXACT SAME CLOTHING, HAIR, POSES, LIGHTING, BACKDROPS, ETC to satisfy any naysayers. Why be so disparaging......????? Just be happy for a person-& if you can't, DON'T COMMENT! Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App Uhm yea I realize that difference in lighting can change things, I'm not an idiot. What made me question it initially and apparently others as well is the amount of weight lost in 3 weeks. Because of that I looked closer and imo it looks like a different person. If you don't agree that's fine. If OP wants to defend herself she can. Calm down. Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App I didn't say you were an idiot .....I just don't get why instead of sounding judgemental or condescending, you or others couldn't have said something like "Great job! I see the new hair color too!" (or similar)...but that's just MY HUMBLE OPINION on the matter. Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App It wasn't a judgement one way or the other it was a neutral observation. I'm sorry you feel offended. Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App
  16. Hey, I'm BRACA1 positive also, I got tested after my mom passed from breast cancer when I was 17. Insurance will cover the mastectomy and the complete rebuild?? If so that's exciting news! Lol Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App

    Surgery date 2/7/2017

It seems that when people, get their surgery dates they are months out, did you have to do any supervised diets or anything? How long has your whole process been so far? Just wondering if there's hope of not having to wait for nearly a year for it all to happen. Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App
