  1. I don't believe that calculator either. It's saying she would burn 100 calories a mile, which IS rule of thumb for a 150lb person. 150 calories per mile is probably more accurate, which puts it at 375cal.

Help, I'm officially ready for surgery...

Here's hoping you'll feel too good to settle down and read!
  4. I have been a "perimeter shopper" for about 10 years now. Single ingredient shopping has lots of benefits, one of which is you know exactly what you just ate. I wouldn't expect the change overnight, but might be something to think about working towards over the next year. (For example.. get plain chicken breast instead of Tyson's breaded, extruded, chopped, processed, colored, salt added chicken patties). Herbal teas are a great way to get flavor variation in calorie free fluids. Flavored black teas are good too, but you want to be aware of the caffeine content. (I drink caffeine, but everyone is different). I don't know if you can tolerate dairy, but yogurt and cottage cheese are very convenient means of getting protein. There is a protein Kefir drink. Not everyone's cuppa.. but 40g protein/bottle. Lifeway I think. With the daily walking, try to get your calories up to 1000 asap. Your journaling is excellent!

    Took a chance

I took a peek at your profile. I honestly think you'll be fine (depending on body shape). I'm pear shaped and 5'7, 268lbs today, and could squeeze into an xl t shirt if I had to. No worries!
  7. Well, this is how it went for me: Monday surgery. Tuesday hospital. Wednesday hotel. Thursday hotel. Friday fly home. I felt great on Friday, but then, I'd been on clear liquids for a week. Once I started protein on Sunday, I became more tired. If possible, take a week off work. Most people take two or three weeks off, even for a desk job. For the first 3 weeks, even though I felt fine physically, mentally I was shot. Kept using the wrong words. That has improved, thank goodness. Even yesterday I said "yesterday" even though I meant "tomorrow"! Weird..
  8. Dr. Illan. Yes, I'm very pleased.
  9. I didn't see glue on the outside, but there were stitches just under the skin. They were absorbable, but some of them poked me, so I pulled them about 4 weeks out.
  10. This is 5 weeks out. I expect them to turn white. There are 4.

    August 2017

I don't know the whole story, but there was a woman that had to lose 100lbs before the surgeon would do the surgery (I don't think she weighed even 400lbs). Was working on it, and suddenly died. Haven't heard cause of death, so don't know if it was related to the diet. Best thing to do is slow and easy. Exercise, dietary changes, etc. Don't kill yourself by being all gung-ho! (Literally!)

    Took a chance

Not sure how soon you need to wear the shirt, but you'll drop a t-shirt size in about 4 weeks after surgery. Even if it is a little snug after that, it will just show off your curves! You'll do great! And in 6 months, you'll need to use it as a night shirt!
  13. You need protein. Milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, beans, peanut butter, meat, fish, tofu, etc. Any vitamins is better than none. Flintstones chewable complete (you need the iron) or the like. If money is an issue and you are in the US, go to social services and apply for assistance.
  14. Will wonders never cease... now we need finger tucks too?!
  15. Dang! All I had to do was switch to diet coke??? 😭

    Something Stuck?

Did you get the blackberry unstuck?
  17. I am 5 weeks out with a sleeve. My restriction is very tight still, but things are becoming easier every day. It was so hard to imagine preop just how little food I would eat, and how satisfied I would be with it. Get a digital scale that measures in ounces and partial ounces. (Like 2.5oz, etc.). And a plate. Measure out 3oz of meat. This is your new protein serving size (for life). Weigh out 3oz of nonstarchy vegetables. Depending on your meal plan, you might have potatoes. Weigh out 2 oz. This plate of food is what you'll be eating 4 times a day forever. It will take about a year to be able to eat everything on the plate. (If the protein is tuna salad, I can finish that right now, but not touch the other things). You'll be able to have pizza or whatever again. It should just be the occasional splurge rather than the Friday routine. And be prepared to eat only one piece instead of 3. Before surgery I was eating close to 4000cal a day. It is a relief to me to look at the "forever plate".

I'm hungry 6 days out vsg

For me, that feeling of hunger was actually acid. I'd take an instant acting type of antacid, and it would go away. As long as you are getting your fluids, protein, and vitamins, you're golden.
  19. Dr.Illan did my surgery, and I am doing well 5 weeks out.

    Drain and catheter?

My surgeon uses a drain on some patients, no drain on others. I didn't have one. No catheter either. I was so dehydrated going into surgery that I barely had to pee in the hospital at all.

    4 oz per hour?

It is normal for clear liquids to go through pretty fast.
  22. Sustained low caloric consumption will result in heart failure. Get some help asap.
  23. This isn't a panic emergency or anything. Even if they didn't do anything, it would just be a bigger scar. I've had cuts that show the fat underneath. It just means the cut is through all layers of skin. No biggie. And it might not be fat but healing goo instead (technical term ).

    Something Stuck?

You are a bypass patient, right? It does sound like the fruit can get stuck in your anamosis. Hopefully another patient can give tips, but call your surgeon to let them know. Strictures can shrink the opening.
  25. Well, you did lose the first week. So you are only stuck this week so far. The second week is a major healing time for the body. Yours is probably working overtime in repair. You may also be close to a period. Give it another 7 days..
