    So hungry

This early out, hunger is almost always actually stomach acid issues. Are you on an acid reducer? Between the constant drinking and working to get your protein in, there isn't time in the day to actually be hungry either Are you meeting your goals?

    Bad stomach cramping- please help!

I'm glad you are listening to your surgeon's meal plan, but now you can ...take a break... for a bit. Some surgeons believe they are helping their clients by making a very lenient post op meal plan... but there truly is a reason most patients are on liquids or thin purees for 3 weeks post op. Their tummies simply can't handle coarser food. My meal plan was fairly typical. 7 days of clear liquids (Not even protein shakes) 7 days of full liquids (thin enough to suck through a straw...started protein shakes) 7 days of thin purees (will pour right off a spoon.. but included pretty much anything that would go in the blender) 7 days of thick purees (like undiluted refried beans) After the first month, it moved to chewable foods in increasing density. I followed this plan to the letter, and am now 10 weeks post op, and haven't had a moment's trouble (touch wood). Part of the plan says that if a food is permitted on the plan, but doesn't agree with the patient, to just wait and introduce it later. You can always move through the stages more slowly.. just not more quickly. Sleeve patients and bypass patients have similar postop needs. They use the same guidelines (in case you were wondering). Less diet related.. I'd recommend stopping the Imodium. The last thing you want is to become constipated. The pain is there, telling you there is a problem. If it continues, you need to talk to your surgeon, and maybe even head to the hospital if it's really bad. I'm glad you moved back to just water. Your system needs the rest. You can try a hot water bottle on the tummy, or some pain medicine if you have any left over from the hospital (just nothing over the counter, particularly not nsaids! Liquid tylenol might be ok.. but really should be cleared with your surgeon). I hope you feel better soon!
  4. It's easy to forget this one is only a couple weeks out. Purees need to be soupy still. Tuna and other fish are easier to digest than beef or poultry. Beans and lentils are even better. Exercise needs to be limited to walking for several more weeks. I wasn't cleared for vigorous exercise until 6 weeks out.
  5. Oh, yes, sorry. There is more fat in dark meat so it's softer and easier on the tummy. I'm 10 weeks out, and really can't do white meat yet. Dark meat with a sauce is where its at... (I mixed a thigh with a tablespoon of baked beans yesterday.. yum!).
  6. Was the first chicken breast meat? There is a huge difference between the white meat and dark meat in digestibility.

    VENTING - can vs should

Pretty sure the whole pizza eating thing took place 3 months postop... not weeks. So at least it wasn't quite as dangerous. My family is so over hearing about the surgery. So I am on the board to get my fill of the topic. If I can help someone, all the better! Just be warned that I love sending people to the ER if I think circumstances warrant it. Better have insurance if you listen to me!

    Losing Weight too fast?

64oz is hard for everyone at first, but 50 is very good. Should keep you from being dehydrated if you get that as a minimum. If you are drinking your meals, and having trouble fitting fluids in, you can drink right up until meal time, and start drinking again soon after. It's when you are on solids that the wait is so important. Why I recommended staying away from oatmeal is the more solid foods don't count as fluid, whereas clear and full liquids do. Solids fill you up, taking up precious room that could be used for fluid. Once you are meeting fluid and protein goals through liquids, that's when bringing in solids works best (following the doctor's plan of course). Diet advancements can always go slower than the doctor's plan, just not faster.

    Losing Weight too fast?

Fluids are the #1 priority. If you aren't getting in at least 50oz, don't be eating things like oatmeal. And don't walk more than a mile a day until you are getting at least close to goal for fluids and protein. We don't worry about what the scale is saying this early out. We worry about consumption. If you don't meet your goals, you'll end up sick.

10 days post op & vomiting

Yes, you need to talk to the surgeon.. but in the meantime can you tolerate milk? If you can, just drink that for a while. Skim milk is thinnest, but 2% might taste better. Do what you can tolerate. Lactaid is super sweet, but will be an option if lactose is a problem. Fairlife is not sweet and has no lactose and extra protein. Experiment around. Milk has protein, energy, vitamins, etc. So you won't need the protein shakes if you can keep it down. Everyone is scared of the carbs in milk, but the first month is about healing, not weight loss, so don't worry about the carbs. (In plain milk...not saying go hog wild with added sugars). You've got to get some nutrition on board, so hopefully this will help until your doc can do something else. Drink up to 2 quarts of milk if you can. It counts as fluid too.

    VENTING - can vs should

Ok, so in case y'all haven't figured it out.. Ice cream without chunks fits into the "full liquids" category.
  12. You poor thing! That sounds miserable! You are the first person I've seen post with the balloon, so we aren't ignoring you, we just have no experience with it. Please keep coming back, as eventually someone else with some experience is bound to show up [Hugs] Hope you feel better, and keep us informed in how it goes!

Need dating advice after weight loss

Even if the overwhelming majority of men are jerks, it is that rare bird that isn't that you are looking for. They are out there Give Mr. Coffee a chance. You'll figure out soon enough if he seems to be settling, or if he truly likes you.

Need dating advice after weight loss

My favorite job! Playing devil's advocate! Ok, so me thinks she doesn't want to date a former fatty because of one very prominent reason we all went in for the surgery. The 95% chance of regain! We don't know if he has kept the weight off for more than a couple years. If he has, that's wonderful, and the chances of him continuing to keep it off are much better than 5% But, if he is a new loser, then statistically speaking, he's gonna fall off the wagon, and possibly drag a girlfriend down with him. On the other hand, if he has a girlfriend with a tiny tummy that will keep up a healthy lifestyle for a lifetime, and he can benefit from that too. The question is whether the girlfriend wants someone with whom she can work on issues together, or whether she prefers to fly solo (or even find someone that naturally eats well, and that can help keep her in line). And, even though the date went well, maybe she just isn't attracted to him for insubstantial reasons, and figured maybe it's to do with his history.

    What do we need!?

Big spoon, regular spoon, demitasse spoon. After 2 months of using the smallest spoon, the others look grotesque, lol.

    What do we need!?

My local grocery store has little cups of several types kinda scattered through the store. Walmart probably has them too. We didn't use the little medicine cups in the hospital. They just had 4 ounce plastic cups and 8 ounce water bottles. So I never tried using the little 1-2oz cups. I just took my time with regular ones. Now, a couple months out, I use the biggest cups I can find. When I first started purees I heated up 1/2 a can of soup in a regular sized bowl. Took two bites and was stuffed. This was the most distressed I have been in the process. Weighing and measuring food into the small bowls has made a world of difference, psychologically. 2 ounces of food in a 6 ounce bowl looks ok. And long term, we only eat 4oz of most things at a time.

By this time next year it will just be wrinkles then you'll wonder where your balls went! (This whole process definitely requires testicular fortitude!)

What kind of cream of wheat? Mine has virtually no protein...

    What do we need!?

Extra bed pillows and stuff that helps with constipation.
  24. Definitely would be a good idea to go to your doc and get some bloodwork done. Make sure you aren't short on something. That little bit of alcohol shouldn't have done that.
  25. I know you hate to hear it, but the first summer after surgery it's a good idea to keep those scars covered. That will give them the best chance at fading for future summers. The sun can darken the scars, making them more visible permanently. At the very least, use plenty of sunscreen on them. Congrats on getting your bikini body, that's awesome!
