  1. I'm glad to hear things are so much easier than before for you. My rationale: I believe in the set point theory. I'll assume you are familiar with it. So it is easy to maintain the body's set point, and hard to change it. I don't know what the OP's set point is, but if the weight won't come off, then that's a good indication she is there. You, yourself sound like you are benefitting from a happy set point. You gain a few pounds, deviate from it, and it's easy to go back. The more I'm learning about keto, insulin, and hormonal involvement, etc, ... I don't know... still trying to figure this stuff out.
  2. Oh man, that sucks I had the opportunity to get a pharmacist to do some research for me. He looked up studies pertaining to frequency of gallbladder issues post bariatric surgery. He had trouble finding a lot of research, but did find 3 studies on sleeved patients. 28%, 37%, and 48% of patients had trouble with their gallbladders postop. That is huge! 1 in 3 patients! Now not all of those patients needed removals, some just developed stones or such. Actigall is helpful and should be taken by every patient for at least 6 months.
  3. Today I stepped on the scale and am 2 pounds down from yesterday. My BMI is now 39.6, which means I am no longer morbidly obese! (Extremely obese doesn't really sound that much better, but I'll take it! Lol!). To think, I was 52lbs over the "morbidly obese" line, and I really didn't have a CLUE that I was THAT big, and in that much danger for my health!

    Roux Stasis syndrome

Yeah, keep the negative vibes to a minimum. So glad you have a great surgeon, and support! I'm in Maryland, so we are practically neighbors! (I'm in the wilds of western Maryland, away from the hustle and bustle of Baltimore and D.C.).
  5. Yeah, I had 150lbs to lose, and my MIL thought I'd be at goal in 3 months. Umm.. 50lbs a month? Almost 2 lbs a day? You know that show, "Naked and Afraid"? The peeps are outside, in 40 degree weather (Fahrenheit), no food or water, shivering their butts off, and the women almost never lose more than a pound a day! Dudes lose up to 2lbs a day, but that's because they're dudes. Average diets get you losing 2lbs a week, so that's 8lbs a month. THAT is what you should compare your surgery journey losses to. If you lose more, great!, Less? Well, it may be slower than average, but even tortoises get there eventually 10lbs a month will lose you 120lbs in a year. 19lbs the first month is about average for RNY women. Don't compare yourself to men, either. They almost always lose significantly faster. (It's because they have more muscle mass that burns calories 24/7). Congrats! And good luck!
  6. Welcome! This is a good question for your doctor, since we don't know what type of blood thinner you'll be on, nor your health status. But, I did get a couple shots (like Heparin) after surgery, and it didn't affect my period. Congrats on deciding to change your life! It's a whirlwind journey, but you have found a very nice spot on the internet to rest on your laurels, and learn about others' journeys

    Roux Stasis syndrome

Do you have family or friends for in-person support? It sounds like the doctors are taking charge of the situation (wonderful!!), so now the ordeal is in their hands. You just get to go with the flow, and they'll tell you what to do. The best thing for you to focus on now (rather than racking your brain in trying to fix yourself.. because that's not your job anymore).. is for you to go out and have fun. Get a manicure, watch a movie. Pamper yourself. I don't know if you exercise, but don't do any more than necessary. Those calories need to go to building you up.. exercise will break you down further. (Again, ask your doctor!). If exercise is your stress relief, keep it to slow walks, and look for other outlets. Everything is going to work out!

    Hard to digest meat

Putting other ingredients in with the meat will help. Tuna=tuna salad, instead of a hamburger patty, make a meatball (usually has breadcrumbs, eggs, etc.. might have to switch breadcrumbs for something else if bread is a no go for you) Sauces, gravies, and the like will help. Dark meat poultry has more fat inside the meat, so does much better than the breast. [For someone else, these add-ins might make the meat a slider. So if you need your protein to be restrictive, these are the solutions to avoid. ] If these don't work, you may just have to become a vegetarian!

    Roux Stasis syndrome

You poor thing! I just thought the ensure wasn't agreeing with you I don't know anything about that condition, but I hope they can get you fixed right up! Not sure how they will get you to gain weight, maybe putting milkshakes into your IV! {HUGS} Feel better soon!

    11 Days Post Surgery

Welcome!!! The drains are a PITA Congrats on taking the step forward to change your life!!
  11. I haven't tried most categories of carbs, but fruit goes right through, beans do too. Soups, which frequently have a lot of carbs, go through like water. I probably could eat a quart in 20 minutes (haven't tried it, so probably an exaggeration...)
  12. If kids aren't in the plan , then, I absolutely think that this is a great idea! I'll leave the post because it may apply to someone else out there. Get ready to hold on to your hat! It's a crazy ride!
  13. Old post, hopefully SM73 will get on and update...
  14. Reread, and you didn't mention kids.. guess I made an assumption.. sorry if it was off base..
  15. Not saying you shouldn't get the surgery, but... A common story here is when people get to goal, then have a pregnancy, resulting in significant regain. It's a no-brainer to accept the risk when obesity has rendered the woman infertile. In your case, I think you are jumping the gun. I was in your shoes back in the day. Was always heavy, finally got to a normal bmi through intense diet/exercise, then here comes the babies and 150lbs! I had the surgery after completing my family, and am so glad I did. Surgery is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I won't have a pregnancy undo all that work. (Tubes tied). Make a 5 year plan. Get the pregnancy(s) out of the way, then get your little tummy.

    HOP INTO SPRING CHALLENGE!!

I finished at 255. Only 6 over goal, I'm thrilled! Goal was just made up with no basis. 50 down from HW, at only 10 weeks post op! Thanks for running this challenge, and good luck on your upcoming procedure!
  17. Ok, found an article that explains what Outside was getting at about ratios. https://www.google.com/amp/www.bodybuilding.com/amp-content/ask-the-nutrition-tactitian-whats-the-difference-between-low-carb-and-keto.html

Funny.. we were typing at the same time, and essentially said the same thing! Lol.

    stories

I'm not sure what you mean by RNY reversal? Do you mean having to get a bypass if you develop GERD with your sleeve? I did the looking at possible complications first thing in my research. After I felt I had enough information, I have avoided those types of articles ever since. After surgery, no one should look at that stuff. After all, there is no point knowing about the stuff that isn't happening to you! If you feel sick, hopefully you know enough to go to the doc and find out what IS wrong, assuming anything ever happens. I've lived on this board since January, and am thinking of taking the summer off. The kids' last day of school is tommorrow, and so I need to be available to them for summer activities. Go out and make some vitamin D! Get in more exercise, and utilize my sleeve to its fullest! I have an addictive personality...all or nothing. Be better to put away the computer for a bit.
  20. It's ok if you feel full on liquids (I did!). It's also ok if you don't. Funny story.. we went to a restaurant 2 days after surgery (me and another sleeve patient). I took, oh about 2 sips of soup and 3 sips of water and was full. The other patient managed her whole bowl of soup, plus a glass of water! It was fine either way.
  21. I agree with everyone here. Better safe than sorry. The ER has the right equipment to rule these things out.
  22. This tickled me, because I wasn't trying to be rude! Lol. I Understood Low Carb to be daily consumption under 100g, and Keto to be daily consumption under 20g, but Outside seemed be be implying that there was more to the story, but I didn't see where she said what the more was. I'm honestly still confused on the matter, but I guess I'll figure it out eventually, and it doesn't matter at this point, cuz I'm doing low carb, not keto.

How to decide on best surgery

Dr. Now makes me angry (and I've only seen him talk for about 5 minutes, total). But I love burgers in butter!!! (pout, pout). Well, actually I've never tried it.. so dunno.... I do grease my pan with butter when cooking my egg. Mmmm. egg with beans... my favorite meal.... Funny story.. went to a mexican restaurant, could have ordered anything off the menu, and what did I get? yup... huevos rancheros! lol. left the rice on the plate, but I finished 2 eggs over medium and about 3-4 ounces of refried beans. (Yes, I can eat a LOT!) Look at me, I have completely forgotten what post I'm responding to... sigh.
  24. You can often find out about people by clicking on their name. It takes you to their profile and if they have filled it out you can see their stats. Outside is almost 2 years out and almost to goal. Everyone is different. Some can handle carbs all the time, some can't, ever. Some can't lose with carbs, but they need them for maintenance. We are a varied group. From the 180lb lady with PCOS but no true food addiction to the 700lb man that is bed ridden and food is his life... and everything in between. We are all here to make ourselves healthier and happier, and if what we were doing before worked, we wouldn't be HERE! Most of us didn't gain weight eating salmon and asparagus. That IS something we have in common.

How to decide on best surgery

I think the most common thing I hear people say post op is their tastes have changed and now protein shakes are too sweet. This definitely applies to me. Fresh fruit is good sweet. McDonald's sweet tea is death!
