  1. You may have some luck by having a "splurge" day. Take 1 day and eat a bunch of sweet potatoes and beans. Then follow it up with a strict liquid diet for the rest of the week. 3 protein shakes plus a pint of low sodium v8 each day. Lots of water (and keep your coffee). Sometimes we just have to shock the system.

    After Surgery Taste Issues

Oh no! Eggs are my favorite
  3. Yeah, if tiny bites are getting stuck, definite warning sign. I did forget to mention.. the food should be soft and moist. Hard, dry meat will do this too. (This is for the general population reading this, not necessarily the op).
  4. You can check in, but never check out...

    My story, so far

Here is an article: https://www.healthaliciousness.com/articles/low-vitamin-k-foods-for-a-coumadin-warfarin-diet.php Here's the thing. If you eat 16 cups of spinach every single day, they can give you enough coumadin to offset the vit. k content. And everything will be fine. The problem happens when you eat zero vit k each day, then suddenly have a salad. Ok, so your nut wants you eating 900 calories, but how many are you actually eating? A big guy like you will still lose weight on 1100-1200, and that would be easier to stick to. Here is my meal plan.. I eat the exact same thing each day (so it would work if I were on coumadin too). Before adding the spinach, talk to your doc that manages your coumadin. Explain that you want to add it, and promise to eat exactly the same amount each day. Or you can leave it off. Breakfast: 4oz cottage cheese and 1 piece of fruit Lunch: 2 eggs and 4oz beans (black, pinto, etc), tablespoon of salsa Snack: 1oz nuts or seeds Dinner: 4oz meat or fish and 4oz fresh or canned spinach Beverages: 2 cups coconut water and 1 cup milk (I mix milk into my tea and coffee) This is 1200 calories if you use whole fat dairy and put a little oil on the spinach. If you avoid the fat, it's probably 900 calories. I actually can't fit all of each meal in my sleeve, so I separate the food into more little meals. Doesn't matter. Hate cottage cheese? Replace it with meat. Scared of sweet fruit? Replace with some avacado. For the snack, an ounce of peanut butter on celery is great! Last thing.. they do make blood thinners that don't care about your diet. You could discuss that option with your doc.

    Abdominal fat?

What else might be going on is the muscles have separated, giving a pooched out looking belly. A tummy tuck repairs those muscles.

    I am new here

Welcome! Good luck at your appointment. Keeping my fingers crossed you get your date.
  8. If the suboxone you take is the film (under the tongue or inside the cheek), then there won't be problems with absorption. Most of us only need pain meds the first day or two after surgery, so you can make a plan with your surgeon with regards to pain management. It is a good idea to explore your own food demons to figure out whether there is a food addiction going on. Not every bariatric patient is actually addicted to food. If it turns out that you are, then you can get a head start working through that issue before the surgery. Replacing food with quilting or painting is good....alcohol.. not so good. Congrats on making the decision to change your life! Good luck!

The good, bad and the ugly. CARBS!

Fiber helps move your bowels along. Constipation is a big deal postop. Generally peeps limit their fat since it is so calorie dense. Personally I don't count it (other than figuring up my calories).. but I do full-fat dairy, nuts, and the like. I go for a balanced approach.

Overall, surgery does increase our life expectancies. Your individual mileage may vary. https://asmbs.org/resources/long-term-survival-benefit-after-metabolic-and-bariatric-surgery

    Can I eat this?

If we get rid of our obesity, and the diseases that go with it, then it follows that we'll likely live longer. I'll look to see if there was a study..

    Getting STUCK

Wow.. a week out and milk felt thick for me. Can't imagine eating crackers so soon. Sip liquids very, very slowly and that will help rinse it through.

    How can spouse help?

Tell you how thin you look (even if you have only lost a pound) Make sure he's a good sport about healthy food in the house, and good natured about your strange habits when eating out.. Get some viagra for when you want to jump his bones...all. the. time. ! (Sometimes takes a while for this side effect to kick in).
  14. Fleet enema, milk of magnesia, smooth move tea, miralax
  15. What you are experiencing we refer to as "head hunger". Your belly is full, but your mind wants something more or something else. Once you are on a regular diet, you'll be getting back to chewing and that helps. In the meantime, spend some thoughtful moments with your mind, thinking about how you got to this point, and what you need to do going forward. Big picture thinking. Congrats on your surgery, and good luck!

    Can I eat this?

Plenty of wiggle words, but essentially for every 100lbs overweight, we can expect to lose 65 on average, and most of us will keep 50 off long term. (Therefore we can assume that a 15 pound regain --per hundred pounds-- will befall most of us). And, from what we see here on the board, it seems pretty accurate. Those that lose 100% of their excess are the exception, not the rule.

Almost 6 weeks and only 20lbs.

Give it time.. Do make sure you are meeting your goals. Too few calories will stall you out. Aim for 1000+ a day.

    Proteinaholic by Dr Garth Davis

Cherbear.. you will need to rely on your plant-based shakes for a couple months. Tofu, beans, and nuts will be your friends long term.
  20. Glad you went in. Too many things wrong. [Hugs] hope they sort you out soon!

    114 lbs down...no plastics...yet

I don't think my tummy has ever been that smooth in my entire life! Lol! Congrats!
  22. I went to check, and it looks like you are a couple months out. I'm sure you have figured out how not to take too big of bites by now Definitely being this up with your surgeon because strictures can get started around the 6-8 week mark. (The scar tissue is forming and pulls tight).
