    I'm STUCK

Have you measured or noticed any inches lost?

    2 Week Follow Up

What on earth could you possibly be consuming to get 2000 calories at 2 weeks postop? Even if you drank 2 quarts of whole milk, that'd only be 1200....
  3. Not everyone with a bypass dumps. When you day "alot more", how much are you talking?

    Gastric Bypass and Diabetes

It sounds like you are just one of the unlucky few hopefully even if your diabetes isn't cured, it will be easier to manage... How long have you been diabetic?

Pains Meds On An Empty Stomach

I had pain meds in my IV at the hospital and didn't need them later. Hopefully you can do the same! *fingers crossed*
  6. I forgot to ask.. what CAN you consume?
  7. Apple has a good point. Keep seeing different docs until you can figure out what might be going on. A bariatric surgeon might be able to say whether a revision could help. Your family doc should do bloodwork, etc. They can consider giving you nutrition through a stomach tube or I.V. if your life is in danger. [Hugs] hope they can figure something out.

    How much is too much?

This is a personal choice. A rough estimate is "around 50 net carbs". If you want to be in ketosis then keep your net carbs under 20 (net is total minus fiber). 50 is still low carb but not usually in ketosis. Up to 100 is still relatively low carb. Over 100 is gonna slow weight loss. Of course getting more fiber is good.
  9. Sometimes we need to put barriers up in front of ourselves. The most obvious barrier to swinging by the drivethrough is lack of money. Pack your lunch and leave your money at home. If you need to pay for parking, just bring enough cash to cover that.
  10. Congrats, and just keep on sipping and walking!

    Young, Short + Female

2 nights in hispital are typical, so you should be feeling pretty good by time you get home! Good luck!
  12. Strap a bottle to your hand and take a sip every couple minutes. IV bags are very temporary, so you have to get a handle on drinking.
  13. Oh I'm so happy you went and are feeling better! It's amazing how bad dehydration can make you feel. Just keep on drinking... (it's a full time job these first months!)

    Going to a Seminar

Have a good time at the seminar! No need to be nervous.. the doctor (or someone) will do all the talking...

    Food supplement

Drink milk and broth and a little watered-down juice. Don't worry about eating yet, you just need to get your energy from liquids.
  16. Go to the ER to get some fluids. You don't have to EAT to keep your energy up. Fluids that have protein and calories will work, but it sounds like you are too far gone with dehydration to be able to "catch up". You go on and get yourself to the hospital so they can fill up up with fluids, then you can start over with trying to get your consumption up. Get someone else to drive you. And if you don't have anyone, call a cab or even an ambulance. Try drinking milk, if you can tolerate it.
  17. I plan to go parasailing. I'll only need a rope and a boat.

    Hair Loss

Almost everyone loses hair during the first year. Typically from months 3-9, and it starts regrowing at about your one year surgiversary. I'm 6 months out, and started losing during the preop diet, and it hasn't slowed at all. Can we say SUPER thin? I only have about half my hair left. Fortunately it's curly, so the body tends to hide the thin-ness. Haven't had trouble meeting my protein goals, and take vitamins, so it's just one of those things... Fingers crossed it'll start coming back in next spring...

    slowing weight loss

Week long stalls really knock down the monthly totals. No worries, losses are losses.. and the DS is super good at getting patients closer to goal and keeping it off.. but stalls and slower losses can happen. Just because month 3 loss is 8 pounds doesn't mean month 4 losses won't be 14lbs. The journey is full of ups and downs, and isn't linear.

    Relationships

Divorce IS really common (I don't know the statistics). BUT, keep in mind that many of the relationships were rocky before surgery. In fact, the surgery may have been undergone as a last ditch, "maybe if I lose this weight he/she will love me more!" effort. Surgery also reconfigures so many aspects in the patient's daily life. Eating out doesn't hold the charm it used to.. taking walks and going to the gym are much more interesting... for the patient. The spouse may not want things to change. Personally, I'm 6 months postop and my hubby and I USED to go out to eat all the time, etc. But by the time I was 3 months postop my hubby realized eating out wasn't going to be a thing so much anymore. He also started seeing my dramatic improvements in health and happiness, and wanted some of that for himself. So he picked up a diet and joined me in my journey. Our relationship is slowly strengthening now. But it easily could have gone the other way...
  21. Nice post, thanks! One modification would be nice. Please say muscle weighs more than fat by volume, otherwise some of our readers' heads may implode...

    Variation in athlete body types

Oh my goodness, this has GOT to be the funniest thing I've read on this board! I'm sorry.... I think we're all like Christmas gifts.. we think we know what's inside, but have to unwrap it to know for sure. Your sexy nighty turned out to just be socks... Not sure what I have yet, although melted candle wax is probably part of it...

    I can cross my legs!

I just started being able to cross my legs, too! It's still a tight fit, but possible! Today, the towel closed at the bottom!! A large bath towel (it wasn't a beach towel)!
