  1. You don't have to be in maintenance if you don't want to be. It's easy to get "calorie creep" that slows losses. Be sure to track for several days to see where you're at. You want to stay below 1200 to keep the scale moving. Stalls can still happen for a week or two.. so if your calories are in line, then that may be what is going on. You're lookin' great!

  3. This board is full of people that surpass the averages. Fingers crossed that we can join them, Fluff. I like to have a solid, realistic goal.. and when I get there, then move the bar lower. Who knows.. maybe we'll be thrilled with 170 or 180! Lol. What I don't want to do is convince myself that 150 will come easily, then beat myself up if I don't get there. Keep in mind, the nadir weights on that chart are at 28 months postop on average.. so weight can continue coming off for well over a year postop.

    surgery time frame

You should call your insurance company to find out whether bariatric surgery is covered. If it is, then call around to find out which bariatric programs take your insurance. Then you should figure out which program seems like a good fit. It sounds like your doctor has a surgeon in mind, and that is always a good place to start. You will likely have a long term relationship with your bariatric team so make sure you are comfortable. Welcome, and good luck!

    From 289.7LBS to 138LBS!

Looking at your before is like looking in the mirror for me. We had the same body type. I still have a long way to goal, but only hope I look as good! Congrats on reaching and surpassing goal! What does your diet/exercise program look like?

    Hardly eating

I agree with Karen. Way too much, too soon. Raw veggies should wait at least another month. I wasn't sure where you are on your meal progression. But if you are eating fish, then you just open a can of tuna or boil or steam some delicate white type fish, and eat some of that. It's normal to get full on just a few bites. You can try a spoonful of mayonnaise or lemon juice in it, but that should be all at first. Recipes should be put away for a while yet. I'm almost 7 months out and can eat the gyro you described (the onions probably wouldn't sit well for me), but it takes a long time to get to that point.
  7. There is the occasional person for whom weight loss is extra slow. It doesn't mean that you won't lose, it just means it'll take longer. Aim for 700-900 calories a day (unless your plan specifies otherwise). Make sure you aren't consuming grains. (Like cream of wheat).

    Hardly eating

Dairy is off limits postop for lots of people. You will have to think of it like an allergy. It may not be this way forever, but for now... You can get protein from: broths, (slow simmered homemade or store bought bone broth..read labels) Dairy free milks (after things settle, you can try lactose free milk to see if it is lactose or all of dairy that is the problem) Refried beans thinned with broth Eggs Vegan or egg-based protein shakes Contact your doc to see if they have other suggestions. Good luck!
  9. Eggs are still considered a soft food, so its still early. When you get to things like steak and pork chops you should start feeling something. Don't rush it though. All in its good old time. Let your tummy heal.. THAT is most important right now. And double check you're on acid meds.
  10. Statistically, people with your starting weight end up around 250lbs. Not to say you won't lose more.. but at least it gives you an idea of what's average. There are a bunch of people on this board that have blown their averages out of the water... so it can be done!
  11. Thank you! Congrats on 10 weeks dry! You are doing great!
  12. I have seen a bunch of articles that were feeling around for that chart's info, but none of them really came close. There were a few that indicated a loss of a certain percentage initial body weight was a good possibility, but nowhere have I seen those large %ages of excess weight lost. Where on earth did the oft-quoted 70% even come from? I wish you luck in resolving your sleep apnea. Since neck circumference is a risk factor, you'd think weight loss should help. I haven't come across anything that mentions it, one way or the other.
  13. Apple, thank you so much for this! This is AWESOME! The chart is results after gastric bypass, and basically proves that % excess weight loss is not applicable across the board, that % starting weight lost is much more applicable. Essentially, those who have a BMI over 40 can expect to lose approximately 38-41% of their starting body weight. 40% makes for a nice round number. So for me, I started at 305lbs, so 305 x .6 = 183lbs (goal weight) Now, I had the sleeve, not bypass, so this may be underestimating my final weight by a little bit. But it gives a ballpark, and I'm comfortable with that. People that start at less than 40bmi only lose about 33% of their starting weights. But, ultimately, they pretty much lose all their excess weight. THIS fact is especially exciting, because it is more similar to what happens with bariatric rats. Rats are only just so obese, and when they get bypassed, they tend to lose all their excess weight. Now we see that it's a function of not having rats fat enough to mimic our morbidly and super morbidly obese humans. Thanks again for posting this!!!

    Taste Buds

You know how you have a favorite color? Yeah.. imagine going under the knife and your favorite color is red. Everything you own is red. You wake up, and red is too bright. You're drawn to all things blue. That pretty much sums it up. Taste, and otherwise. I used to HATE cars that were non-metallic colors. They looked like toys. I like em now. So strange.
  15. You only have 50 some odd pounds to lose till goal, and 11 months in which to do so. I think you'll be ok.

    Weight loss stall during PMS/period

Yes, expect it every month. I stop losing for a few days before my period, then most of the time I'm bleeding, then I'll have a big drop of several pounds. The body just retains fluid. Don't let it mess with your head...
  17. How much can you eat? Are you hungry a lot?
  18. We should be sure to clarify a distinction.. heavy people sweat. Frequently a LOT. But that sweat is secondary to obesity, cure the obesity, cure the sweat. Primary hyperhidrosis is what the OP suffers from, and that is basically genetic. It's not due to obesity, therefore won't be cured by weight loss. However, if the OP has developed secondary in addition to primary, then the secondary symptoms can get better.

    Odd Question

You are only getting in 32oz of fluids? Right there is your problem! I rarely drink water, but still get 64oz fluids. 64oz = 8 cups = 4 pints. 1 pint coffee in the morning. 1 pint coconut water 1 pint decaf coffee or water with a squirt of lemon juice 1 pint herbal tea Spread out through the day. If you don't get the liquid in you, the protein and fiber will bind you up. Drink out of pint jars and you'll find it's easier to get it all in. If I go to work out or exercise, I stick with water. (An extra 20oz is easy if you sip while working out).

    Taste Buds

For me, my tastes became more exaggerated. I still enjoy the same stuff... but it's much more love/hate, rather than tolerate/like. Sweets did become TOO sweet. I expect over time that will diminish. Lots of people become dairy and egg intolerant. I have no trouble with either. I can't stand protein shakes. Cheese is no longer very good. Too heavy and salty. But, since I don't enjoy the stuff anymore, it's no real loss. Quite different from being told you can't have something.

    Calories

800-1100 is a very effective range. Since you are a man, aim for the upper end.

I'm not sure what's wrong with me

I suspect, based on a lot of what you said, that you don't believe simply sitting there and talking will make that much of a difference. So why carve a chunk of time and effort out of your day to do it. Anxiety is EXHAUSTING, and you have no energy because of it. You will pick up the phone because you are going to see if meds might help. Medication, combined with therapy, might be just the leg-up you need.

    Plato

It's normal to be able to fit more in at a year postop. This is why you have to pay attention to what goes on your plate, not just how much. It's still about calories, and some foods have a lot of calories and not much satiety (i.e. cookies). Some of us can't handle grains. Since you are getting sweet cravings, that is one of the first things to cut out (grains.. especially white flour). Put your tuna on a bed of lettuce instead of bread. Or try eating just the tuna with a little bit of dressing. Solid protein by itself is more filling. Eat out of little 8oz bowls. That will help limit your portion sizes. Beans are super filling. One egg with a cup of beans and some salsa is da bomb...
  24. https://www.sweathelp.org/hyperhidrosis-treatments/treatment-overview.html Since weight gain didn't cause the problem, weight loss can't be expected to fix it. But if additional weight has piled normal sweating on top of the hyperhidrosis, then at least weight loss could help that aspect. Good luck!
  25. The starting weight is usually your highest weight within a year before surgery. Many of us first start looking at surgery when we are the highest weights of our lives. Sometimes we may have been heavier years ago, but lost and maintained for a while. Since the surgery is changing our setpoints, it makes sense to use the preop setpoint to help gauge the new postop one. Whatever weight you were maintaining before any preop diet... that is what you use. Postop set point is estimated to be 65% of excess weight loss for sleeve and 70% for bypass. Excess weight is calculated from your BMI at about 24.9. So, for example, my highest weight preop was 305lbs. My 24.9 BMI weight is 155lbs, for a difference of 150lbs. 65% of 150 is 97.5lbs. So... 305 - 97.5 = 207.5lbs. 207.5 lbs is an average weight loss (for my stats) due to the surgery. It's a good starting goal. If/when I make that, then I can create a new goal. I'm just shy of 7 months out, and am only 2lbs from this first goal. So, feeling good! Next goal, onederland!
