    Irrational fears?

Oh, meant to say... I would hold off on surgery if possible until you see if the weight loss helps the symptoms. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Irrational fears?

Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App I think part of it is that I have a fear (manifested by my mother - yeah, thanks again mom!) that when I lose the weight I'm going to have all of this excess skin that I won't have the money to have removed and my insurance won't cover it because "it's cosmetic...not medical". I hadn't even thought of that until my mom pointed it out to me. The other thing was my oldest son telling me that he was afraid of going off into the Navy and coming home and not recognizing me because me being morbidly obese was all he's ever known. I'm concerned about the skin too... but I am more concerned about diabetes and high blood pressure. I LIKE the feeling of compression wear (Under Armor), so figure I'll just wear that a lot. You can send weekly pics to your son so he can see the progression! I bet that isn't really a true concern for him anyway, just an off hand comment. It is MUCH easier for other people to get used to changes in you then it is for you to embrace the change yourself! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Irrational fears?

Huh.. when I put weight on my elbows, my hands go to sleep too! @@Hoping052017 . I am 5'8, (currently 307lbs... heaviest weight ever). I once was 145lbs (size 10 jean), for all of a couple of months. My "normal" weight should be 140lbs, which I haven't been since elementary school. Anyway, my mental self-image is of someone that carries an extra 50lbs.(not 150!) If I were to lose that last 50, I would have some identity restructuring work to do... Irrational fears?

I love watching those shows where people suddenly end up in a different body (either older or switched with someone else). In the movie there is a 2 minute scene for the discovery. In real life, we have developed our identities, and any change typically takes years to manifest. WLS presents a unique challenge since the changes are extra fast and dramatic. I have been heavy as long as I can remember. I did obtain a normal BMI once... for all of a month. Part of my identity is that of being heavy. I have no clue how to change my identity, I just recognize it will be a challenge. The good news is I weigh about 100lbs more than my mental image of myself. So, if the surgery leaves me a little heavy (190lbs), but not morbidly obese, then there will be no identity issues at all! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Common Channel Traditional DS

The DS is a really aggressive surgery. Since your BMI is kinda borderline... You could go with the sleeve, leaving the possibility to convert later if necessary. (But many insurances wouldn't be happy to do a conversion). Or the bypass, which is "one and done". The DS is extremely effective at losing you weight, but it can also be effective at leaving you malnourished, and the Vitamin regimen can get expensive. My BMI is 47, so I'm not in your shoes. Even if I was 3-4 points higher, I wouldn't consider the DS for me. I have insurance, but there may end up being too many hoops. I'm considering going to Mexico to get the sleeve. If I do it locally with insurance, I'll do the bypass. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

  17. Oh, and your stomach doesn't have the nerves in place to tell you when it is full. You need to use a measuring cup, and a meal isn't more than 1/4 cup right now. Take 20-30 minutes to eat your 1/4 cup of cottage cheese, etc. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  18. Wowzers, there is so much to learn, and they really dumped you into the deep end. Time to learn to swim! Tons of good wls post op meal plans on youtube, along with the explanations behind it all. At this point, I recommend giving your tummy a break, concentrate on getting your liquids in. Start with Water. (Assuming water doesn't make you nauseated). Get the 1 oz medicine cups to measure out your portions. Drink 1/2 the oz, wait 5 minutes, drink the rest. Repeat. You should be able to consume at least 8 oz this way. If you vomit the water back up, time to call your surgeon. Assuming you keep the water down, do the same with a Protein shake. Good shake recipe: 1 cup plain greek yogurt, ripe banana, 4 tablespoons Peanut Butter, blend well. If it isn't sweet enough, add more banana. Can also add some Protein powder. Of course this makes quite a bit of shake that will take a while to consume. I'm concerned to hear about all the vomiting. Not good! If Vitamins don't agree with you, they make Vitamin Patches. Good luck! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Painful injections? Any advice?

I had to use heparin 11 years ago... I think I learned to push down, stretching the skin tight before injecting. (Using the non-needle hand, spread the thumb and forefinger, tightening/smoothing the skin between, then inject there). I agree about moving the site each time.
