Irrational fears?
Berry78 replied to Hoping052017's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I guess I am lucky. I live in a poor, somewhat backward town. LOTS of people are very heavy. I have hardly ever felt like I was treated differently or wrongly. I grew up in a much more up and coming area, was barely overweight, and received a lot more flak. It is helpful that I was already married before I got super big. If I was this big and trying to date... yeah, I definitely can see how that would be hard Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App -

Congrats on the 35 pounds! First off, remember the sleeve is giving you a very special year to lose your extra weight. A once in a lifetime opportunity! Use the opportunity to its fullest! When you get past the cancer scare, you will have a comfortable, healthy body in which to reside the rest of your long days.... Ok, now for the flip side... (Not PC, but I am not one to sugar coat things). Worst case scenario, and you get extremely sick. If you are relatively small, you will find it easier to care for yourself, and it will be easier for the people that are assisting you to help. You underwent the surgery to take control of your life. Do not let this obstacle rob you of your power during this most pivotal of moments! 2 paths lay before you... the one you designed for yourself (weightloss and better health), and the one that has suddenly appeared (mortal fear and self sabotage). Stick to your path. No matter where that path takes you (to good health or bad), you won't regret the journey. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone had Gallbladder issues?
Berry78 replied to Berry78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks! I guess it's probably something else, since I haven't had pain.. I'll definitely tell my new doc about my symptoms. Maybe he'll give a hoot! Lol. Last Doc couldn't see past the fat. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App -
You'll have to run that one by your nut. Always follow your surgeon's plan! Congrats, and good luck! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

In that aspect, I believe both will be similar. Long term use of Fiber and Probiotics (and plenty of water) should help, no matter which procedure (or none). I wouldn't use fiber the first few days after surgery until Water consumption is up above 60oz. Fiber absorbs water, and if there isn't enough present, could cause a problem. Good luck! Can I add sugar to my hot tea when I'm on clear liquids?

A keto diet means it is ketogenic, basically very very low carb, high Protein and fat. Being a few years out, you are now in the maintenance phase. Think of yourself the same as you were before the surgery, or same as "regular folk". The weight loss strategies the rest of the world uses are going to apply to you. Take a little time to decide which train to jump on. Go to your local library and/or bookstore, go to the diet/nutrition section, and behold! Everything from South Beach Diet to Mediterranean to Atkins, etc. Keto will be there. Read through the various concepts, and see if any of them sound like something that will work for you. If they promise weight loss without exercise, ignore that part. You must exercise! Good luck! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App -
Not sure what your diet is supposed to be 3 weeks out, but do NOT go off the diet. Make up whatever story you want, but don't "cheat". Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

ANYONE FEEL LIKE IT WAS A "WASTE"?
Berry78 replied to TaureanMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That last sentence could be confusing. I'll clarify it: It is easier for the body to convert muscle to sugar than it is to convert fat to sugar. So it will select unused muscle first. And, why does the body want to turn anything into sugar? The brain's only fuel is sugar (not fat or protein), and it needs a constant, steady supply. If you don't eat enough, the body will go looking! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App -

My understanding of why exercise is important: The muscles store glycogen (sugar) for quick use. 1. If you don't exercise and eat less: the body starts mobilizing fat and muscle to fuel the body. Turns them into sugar in the blood, the muscles are still full of glycogen, so there is nowhere for the sugar to go, so it gets converted back into fat. 2. If you diet and exercise: The muscles use up their stores of glycogen, so the sugar in the blood has a place to go! Also, if the body is using its muscles, it won't be in a hurry to break them down to use for fuel. If the muscles aren't being used, it is easier for the body to convert muscle to sugar than fat, so it will select muscle first. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App -

Thanks! (haven't had surgery yet) I have been having some symptoms, but nothing too dramatic. (Upper abdominal pressure and oily stools) no pain. Wondered whether it could be gallbladder related. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App -

My recovery has been horrible

Did you say you ate a grape? It really is too early for any solids. It sounds unusual to vomit some liquid up hours after you drank it. Try to pay attention to how much stays down vs how much comes back up. (Measure your vomit, gross, I know... just keep a measuring cup with you to make the "deposit") Try different liquids to see what you can tolerate. Water down the Protein shake or juices. If you can't keep anything down except water, you really need to tell the doc.. but it helps to have specifics. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App -
No problem! I wish someone had laid it out like that for me. Scared the dickens outa us (for a long time!). We were like, 6 months! Seemed really long until I learned more about it. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

He had a ct scan looking for a hernia and it caught a picture of the lung. They followed it for a couple years. It "grew" to 4mm, then stopped. Reality is 2mm or 4mm might be the same size, depending on who is doing the measuring. There is no test that can tell what a pulmonary nodule IS until it gets to be about 1cm (10mm) in size. Even cancer doesn't grow THAT fast, so a 2mm nodule that is cancer takes a couple years to get to 1cm. BUT, like I said, more than 99% of these tiny nodules are NOT cancer. Something like 20% of the population have them. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

Oh ok. No biggie at all. Same as my husband's. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

CM or MM? There is a big difference. 5mm is 99% of the time nothing. 5cm is a bit concerning. Either way, prepare yourself for more tests. Docs like to follow them to see if they grow. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

How big was the nodule? My husband has a small nodule that is no big deal. They are very common. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
