    Height and BMI Discrepancies

I saw somebody else had this happen. Their doctor had to write a note making the change. I think it worked out ok if I remember correctly.

    What's Your Favorite Store Now?

The only time I've worn regular sizes, I got down to a 10, back in 2000. The thing is, I watched a youtube video of a bariatric patient that weighed 15lbs more than I did, and was 5 inches shorter than me, and she was modeling size 8 jeans. I wondered about it enough that I did some research. I learned the sizes have changed in the last 17 years! My size 10 is now a size 8. My MIL wore size 12 in the 60s, and now she would be a size 0! (At least this makes sense how I could wear a "smaller" size, but weighed 40lbs more!) To me, the perfect size was always 8 or 10, but now I guess it would have to be 6 or 8 to be considered medium. Is this what others are finding? It also means there are more sizes to filter through until goal, which means more shopping! (Good or bad, depending on budget!).

    Starting to worry

If you have insurance that would cover an ER visit, go ahead there. If you don't, then maybe find a clinic?
  4. Ok, I don't know if he is still active, but his handle is@NoMoreFatGuy
  5. Ok, just ignore what I said , I didn't realize they were taking it all out. [Opened mouth, inserted foot]. I really meant worst by meaning the most stomach to be removed, not worst from a health standpoint! Someone else on this board had the same procedure, and was happy with the result, because once it healed, there were no more ulcers! [Hugs] .. didn't mean to sound like your procedure was gonna be bad!
  6. You will be a-ok! Even if they had to take out the whole stomach (which they won't...I'm just worse case scenario-ing)... you'd be fine. No worries! Good luck! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    7 months post op

First off, congrats on the weight loss! Second, what are your stats... male or female, how tall? We have to remember that the surgery doesn't always get people down to a "normal" bmi. It frequently just gets them to the top end of overweight. Any additional work is for YOU to do! Food journaling, high protein, low carb, water, vitamins, exercise. These will continue helping you. If you eat too much, you will gain. If you eat too little, you will plateau. It's a balancing act. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I came across some statistics. People that get the sleeve and didn't have GERD prior to surgery.. 9% will develop GERD because of the surgery. 16% of people that have acid going into surgery had it resolve! But, acid is a concern, and one of the reasons I'm considering getting a RYN bypass to begin with. Or I'll get the sleeve, and have a 9% chance of needing a revision. 9. Sounds great! How did you choose between Dr. Ponce and Dr. Illan? Why the mini instead of the RNY? Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. Some people get rid of their scale, and just use the one at their gym or what have you. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Starting to worry

Put a call in and describe what you are experiencing. In general, when things get worse instead of better, you'll want to be checked out. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. 1poundatatime your son sounds really sweet! It does put us in an awkward position when the little ones make a special treat, but we have to say no (particularly right after surgery). Be sure to explain to him that the Dr says you can't eat sweets, but you would love it if he made you a protein shake (or whatever). My MIL lives with us and is constantly bringing in cakes, cookies, pies, etc. Stuff has been my downfall in a big way. After the surgery I'm just gonna toss the stuff in the trash when I see it. I've told her... if she wants a treat for herself, more power to her, but don't bring whole cakes into the house and leave them out for everyone. NO one in our house needs this stuff! 13. Almost everyone loses lots of their hair during the first year. It can thin evenly over the head, or have almost bald patches. It starts growing back in after a year or so. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. It is probably a coincidence Sounds like a cold getting started. Don't be surprised if your surgery is postponed. Hope you feel better! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Plastic Surgery?

The veins can be taken care of at any time, as it is a separate procedure to the skin removal. There are a few different vein procedures, just google varicose vein treatment to give you an idea... I have an issue with this, but need to lose weight first. (My legs are huge, and the compression pantyhose would be virtually impossible for me to wear). Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pre-surgery Cough

If the cough doesn't resolve before that, postpone the surgery. You don't want a "show stopping" cough when your abdominal walls are sore from the surgery. Of course, when in doubt, get checked out! If this cough is unlike any you have had before, it must be something new. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Any regrets?

There are plenty of complications stories on this board. It is important to read them to know what can happen. But, it is also good to look at the statistics to see how OFTEN those complications happen. Message boards may not be a representative sample of the entire population Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Any regrets?

Anne, you sound miserable, but you didn't say what went wrong. Although you can't have your original stomach back, it can sometimes be possible to convert to a bypass (if that would help your problem, good for GERD many times). Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. Welcome! Many go the self-pay route. Mexico is reasonably priced. Surgery is a big deal, so be sure to educate yourself. You will find, as a Vegan, that it may be difficult meeting your protein requirements. Bariatric patients strive for 60-80 grams of protein a day. There are plant based protein powders available, but you should expect to have to consume them long term. (You will be limited to about 3-4 cups of food a day for life... look at your current protein consumption and the quantity of food required to meet it...). Hopefully there is a vegan that can chime in... Sent from my SM-N920R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Congrats! It sounds like you are doing great! Being only a month out, I just want to caution that your stomach is still healing. Any food that isn't on your list should be approved. Same with your gym activities. (I'm mentioning this for you, but also for others that read this thread in the future). So nice to hear when things go so splendidly! Regrets...

If you drink from a sippy-type cup that would prevent you from smelling the contents, it might help. Keep experimenting with fluids to find some you can tolerate. Pediapops (frozen popsicles for kids) can help with elecrolytes. Simmer whole potatoes with skins, or just potato skins and drink the water. (They are full of potassium and it leeches into the water during cooking). Might as well put a bunch of veggies in it for better taste.. try it hot or cold. Simmer for 1-2 hours.
