How to get husband back on board?
Berry78 replied to lnaj59's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am going to Dr. Illan by myself in a couple weeks. It can be done! I hate for your husband to be so skittish.. -
You know, the preop diet is making me lose weight like crazy, and I am a blubbering fool! I cried in church during the sermon! (It was a sad story at least!). Not pms.. not that part of the month.

Check gallbladder. Flat diet ginger ale, or other morning sickness remedies. There are accupressure/acupuncture points for nausea.. do some research or go to a practitioner. If you find something that helps, let us know!

Doctors pretty much promise that if we follow the plan, that we'll lose weight. We trust them at their word, and pass it along. The occasional person will have an unusual metabolism or hormone imbalance that would cause wls to fail. Those individuals need specialized care to see if their underlying problem can be fixed. The general wls community can't be expected to know whether they are talking to that rare bird, or the typical patient that is falling off the wagon.

Two Years out-now frequent vomiting?!
Berry78 replied to bewell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have your gallbladder checked too. As well as things like UTI. Hope they figure it out! -
First off, during the first two months post surgery, your stonach is still healing. Please be sure to follow the prescribed diet. Secondly, never weigh yourself the first month. Your body is in chaos and weight is a non-issue. Thirdly, many of those with 30lb losses in any month are either very high bmi, or had complications. The average first month loss is 15lbs, and 10lbs thereafter. Normal for you might be higher or lower. Stick to your plan, and you'll do well!

Post op depression, is there such thing?
Berry78 replied to vsgbeauty13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally, I have found the more carbs I eat, the hungrier I am. Fruit might be what is causing that for you. Try to keep eating to designated meals and Snacks. Start with 3 meals and two snacks, and see how you do. Snacks could be cheese and nuts... stuff like that. -
Would it be possible to keep some snack bars with you? Eat a few bites every couple hours between patients. The snack bars should be something like oats+ peanut butter+choc. Protein powder. No sugar. Eating two Snacks + lunch during your shift should help. Breakfast and dinner before and after. Bedtime snack if needed. Hope this gives some ideas.

Pre Surgery Nerves and No Special Diet - Need Advice
Berry78 replied to Stone52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Caution: If you are diabetic, do what you need to to stay at a good blood sugar range. Disregard the above plan if it is contraindicated by your personal health concerns. Oh, and I realized that I said the shakes had no carbs.. you do need some each meal. The powder can have next to none, but the milk will have some. Aim for 40 grams of carbs a day. -
Pre Surgery Nerves and No Special Diet - Need Advice
Berry78 replied to Stone52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I should add, the clear liquids can and should have calories. Lots of broth and some regular jello would be good. Too much sugar will make you sick, especially if you are diabetic. Broth... get a whole chicken and simmer it for several hours in a large pot (include the giblets, carrots, celery, onions and the like) I add a tablespoon of italian herbs and salt and pepper to taste. Start with half a teaspoon of salt, a little goes a long way. Drain and put broth in the fridge overnight. In the morning, scrape off the fat, and you have jello-like broth. Freeze the extra.. but you can drink as much as you want. Meanwhile the chicken meat can be removed from the bones and turned into chicken salad or what have you... -
I should add, my husband has never donated, so to get him to do so would be a challenge/win.
-
No, I believe you. I could tell you seemed knowlegable. Did I give in too quickly?
-
Rest it until no longer painful. Several days, no running. Try looking up the yoga lotus position. That is a good stretch.
-
Oh wow, I had no idea! I'll not make any plans for the forseeable future. I also am an O donor, so it is a shame. I'll try to get my hubby to take my place

Limited foods won't kill you. Protein, Vitamins, and Water along with what you can eat will do just fine. -
Coming to terms with peanut butter addiction
Berry78 replied to tfarr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I was pregnant, I once ate a regular sized whole jar in a 4 hour sitting. Lol. I also love peanut butter (obviously). This morning I tried the quest peanut butter protein powder. Pretty good! That might be a decent replacement for you. -
help, am i doing the right thing?
Berry78 replied to bv33's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There is a relationship between vit D deficiency and obesity. Vit. D is fat soluble, and I think the adipose tissue tends to suck it up and hold it, keeping blood levels low. Surgery would likely help your comorbidities and help you live a healthier life. But, only you can determine whether feeling good or looking good is more important for YOU. I told my MIL about the surgery, and my projected weight loss might get me to 200lbs (I am 300lbs). I said I'd be happy with that. She is currently 250lbs, and said flat out, that she wouldn't be happy with that! If you saw her, she is as apple shape as possible. 50lbs would be miraculous off her! But she is 75 and not a candidate for surgery, so a moot point. My real point is everyone is different with their priorities. You do you! -
Most patients that are having a normal recovery won't lose too much weight. Being female, your body might want to lose another 10-25lbs, or more, depending on your height. But, if you want to stop losing, you need to increase your calories.. but not junk. Lean proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates will get you there.

Order water during the drink ordering. Either sip it, or leave it untouched, depending on your eating rules. Request your companion order something you can eat and share, or just order a cup of soup (unless you want leftovers...which can be irritating when traveling). Some restaurants have a minimum order per person (no sharing policy). Resign yourself to spending the minimum, but you can still share! The main thing, is remember you are there to have good conversation and socialization. Don't call attention to your food selection, and all will be well.

A typical person can eat ONE brownie or baby cone of ice cream (take the cone and fill it to the top without going over the top). I think where most of us got into trouble was eating 4 brownies (or the whole pan), and always ordering a large ice cream. After hitting maintenance, try a normal amount. If it sets up the cravings or weight gain, then that won't work for you. While still losing, sweets should be either a spoonful or off limits. "Healthy" sweets are a problem for me because they tend to taste more like food, and I eat more of it... so much so it would have been better to have had a small real sweet. Play around with it to see what works for you!

They make toilet seat boosters that raise the level of where you are sitting. They would be found at medical supply places.

The good news is your home makes things more difficult, but should also make recovery better too because you are getting more exercise just doing normal activities. Keep up with the pain meds as prescribed. If you aren't in pain, you'll move more and heal faster. Hope you feel better soon!
-
Sorry to hear about the injury. Glad it wasn't more serious! Sprains usually feel much better within a month or two. Do you have friends or family that can help with grocery shopping and the like? There are many exercises that can be accomplished from the bed. It is important to keep moving for blood flow and clot prevention. Get creative! The good news is with the surgery, you will keep losing weight even without hitting the gym right away. Weight loss will help your mobility, as long as you keep moving as much as possible. If you don't move, your muscles will atrophy within weeks. Keep using your walker, and try to at least walk around inside the house several times a day. Make goals. If you can't walk at all, practice getting up and standing, sit down, and repeat. Day 1, do it once or twice an hour. Day 2, do two or three times an hour. Etc. You are going to do great!

Pre Surgery Nerves and No Special Diet - Need Advice
Berry78 replied to Stone52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon is different, but for your sake, I would do a self-imposed diet between now and then. Starting tomorrow, drink 3-4 protein shakes a day and tons of calorie free liquids like water. The shakes need at least 20g of protein each and almost no carbs or fat. A scoop of protein powder in skim milk will work. The day before surgery go on clear liquids only. No protein shakes. This is to clean out your intestines. Then fast as per doc's instructions. Cleaning out your intestines will help with comfort after the surgery. Your intestines take a day or two to wake up after anesthesia, and food sitting in them will create gas, etc. Good luck! -
Alternative protein sources are veggie based. Beans and the like. Try that too..
