    Trying to decide

Well, put it this way. My daughter had a 13 level spinal fusion done when she was 14. I. E. Big surgery. She had no interruption to her nutrition, except the few days surrounding the procedure. She still lost half her hair. I think it is the trauma of surgery that does it, at least partially. Hers came out evenly all over, not patchy, so you couldn't tell from a distance.
  2. The sleeve can be converted to a bypass. It frequently happens for those that go on to develop gerd My opinion... if you have acid reflux, go with the bypass. If not, go with the sleeve.
  3. Well, hard to say. She pressed on my abdomen right under my right rib cage, and kinda hung out there. She asked if it hurt, and there was a sharpish pinchy feeling. It didn't hurt before, but kinda ached for 20 minutes after she pressed on it. I do get sporatic diarrhea, and frequent oil slicks in the toilet. Hadn't really tied it to specific foods. In general my BMs are like a box of chocolates, as in "I never know what I'm gonna get". Pasta sauce comes out reddish, Peanut Butter comes out peanut butterish colored, etc. Maybe not quite as dramatic as it sounds, but something seems amiss... The Protein shake fast is doing crazy things too.

    1st step

It takes a couple days to retrain your body. I am on a three shake a day preop diet, and the shakes (sipped slowly) do remove the hunger. Maybe not FULL, but good enough.
  5. I saw my primary doc today, and she suspects gallbladder issues too. Gonna get an ultrasound! What sort of symptoms did you have?
  6. Switching from sleeve to bypass might be something to consider. If you have the means, you could go to Mexico and self pay. There are surgeons there that do revisions. The other option is to redouble your efforts at keeping to a restricted diet. Have you tried the pouch reset?

    Lent and Fasting/No meat

Protein shakes sound like a great option. Congrats on finding ways to keep to your traditions!
  8. I was explaining this to my MIL. The sleeve will eventually hold about a cup of food. If you put a cup of chicken salad in the blender, it comes back out about the same. It would take about 8-10 cups of popcorn to make a cup of it blended. About 2-3 grilled cheese sandwiches, half a bag of potato chips, etc. This is why we have to pay attention to what we eat and how much. Restriction only does so much..
  9. I don't work, so I am telling everyone. But if I still was at my last job, I wouldn't have mentioned it to my coworkers.

    Liquid diet day 1

Day 1 was the worst for me. After that it got much easier! Good luck!

    Juicing

Juice your vegetables, eat your fruits. If you like the idea of juicing spinach and other low carb veggies, that would work.

    angry and betrayed

Yes, I would be angry too. [Hugs] Do you want a devil's advocate? (The up side to things?) If not, don't bother reading below. 1. Now you know your system doesn't like painkillers, so you can take steps to prevent constipation during your sleeve journey. 2. It is recommended to not get pregnant for a couple years after bariatric sugery, which would have run you out of time anyway. 3. Just because you can't get pregnant doesn't mean you can't be a parent. 4. You are getting the painful procedures out of the way so you can focus on feeling better going forward. 5. No pregnancy means no required weight regain. 6. The sleeve will be a simpler surgery, with fewer potential complications long-term.

    Stomach Upset

Seems like most people have problems with water after surgery. Herbal teas are great ways to get fluid. Shop around for other calorie free, uncarbonated liquids to have variety.

    EGD done

Many times they will. You'll just have to ask.

    Can I do this?

The doc may have said that to get you riled up. As in.. "I'll show her!" If you want to lose weight, eat nothing but meat and nonstarchy vegetables. Unless your metabolism is absolute toast, that will knock some pounds off. No drinking calories. You can do this! Have a good cry, then get mad!
  17. My husband is also concerned for my safety, but knows that once I set my mind to something, it is pointless to fight it I liken this adventure to those brave/fools that jump out of a perfectly good airplane with a little strip of cloth that is supposed to slow down their descent. They have a risk of coming down in a bad way..injury or death. AND..THEY..DO..IT..FOR..FUN Yes, we take a risk. But we do it to hopefully avoid the risks of obesity. If he is willing to pay the extra, I guess you could compromise by doing it in the States. Just remind him you will be needing vitamins, supplements, and new clothes.

    After I Eat (sadface)

Diarrhea and constipation are both common for a while. (If that is the question).

    After I Eat (sadface)

Does it look the same going out as what went in? If not, then you are seeing a prior meal's remains. It is a reflex in babies (and some adults) that after they eat, they go poo. If it looks like it literally is the same food that you just ate, that needs to be brought up to your doctor.

    My Story....Feb 27th date

Good for you! (And your anesthesiologist!)
  21. Cross your fingers that the surgery date is soon enough.

    Solids still hurt

You are still early out. For the next while you can expect to chew to applesauce consistency. About 20-30 chews per bite. Hope this helps!
  23. @JerseyJules congrats for going through with it! Did they have to strap you down?

    Trying to decide

Bleonhardt, you may not be out of the woods yet as to hair loss. It often is a delayed occurrence. If you make it a year, then you're home free
