    Mexico surgery

My original family doctor wasn't on board, so I found another. I made a big deal out of the plan to do the surgery in Mexico, to make sure they were willing to do the follow up. My new doctor has been fabulous (and was important because I needed some minor care right after getting back...prescription tweaking).

    Is this normal?

I agree with Jesm. A cup of food is for maintenance. You are doing just fine at 1/2 cup (and from the sounds of it, you might want to do a couple spoonfuls less than that).
  3. Stay on soft foods until you get clearance from your nut. Most don't start a regular diet until 8-9 weeks out. Bread is something I plan on staying away from until I am in maintenance. If you aren't losing as fast as desired, simple carbs like that need to go away. You likely should be eating 5 times a day.. 3oz of soft protein and 1-2 ounces of soft veggies each time. One meal could be a few ounces of cottage cheese and fruit. Good luck!

3.5 weeks post op - are these things normal?

I am three weeks out, and am generally doing super. Haven't started thick foods yet though. I feel clear headed and normal, but will say the wrong word several times a day. (Like "parking lot" instead of "book"). This never happened before surgery. Not sure what it means, but figure it will get better.

    Mexico

I second everything mama just said. That was my experience to a "t" as well.
  6. I just was at Oasis of Hope hospital. WONDERFUL experience! The Bariatric wing was perfect. Care was second to none. There are some older parts to the hospital, but it looked like renovations are getting started. There are 3 floors to the hospital. Upstairs is a wonderful cancer center. Downstairs is an Alzheimers unit. The hospital is located near the ocean. Maybe these facts explain the name The Valets are the best! The nurses actually let you sleep! They quickly and quietly come in during the night to put meds in the IV. Someone was coming into the room every couple hours around the clock to check on everything. My surgery went off perfectly so far! No gas pain, quick healing. Easy walking around. Beautiful garden outside to sit in the fresh air. The two days after the surgery were just as nice. Upscale hotel, extremely nice Valet that took everyone around all day. I went by myself, and wouldn't trade the experience for the world! Oh, and I got my first shower 48 hours after surgery... AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Plenty of water that was nice and gentle on the incisions.
  7. Not crazy at all. Sounds like you are a prime candidate! Sleeve is a good choice.

    Post-Op rash??

If it is only on your abdomen, it could be a reaction to the antiseptic they painted on.

    Post-Op rash??

I did, and it was on my cheeks too. I was on an antibiotic that I was allergic to I think. A few days after stopping the antibiotic, the rash got better.
  10. I know this is late coming. Since the pain goes away while resting, it is probably not an emergency. Relax flat on your back and feel your abdomen gently. It shouldn't hurt with gentle pressure. If it does, there might be a problem. Sharp pains are often stitches getting pulled a bit.
  11. I just went to Mexico on the 20th. Dr. Illan. I thought I would just be lounging around the hotel room for 2 days after surgery. How wrong I was! The valet had us out walking (optional) both days. I was out for 5 hours the first day, and 8 hours the second. I brought too many pjs and not enough real clothes. The real clothes should have a stretchy waist, as your abdomen will be swollen. Good walking shoes are a must. I did notice the virgin sleeves had the easiest recovery. Bypasses and revisions are harder. Don't know what it is like with other surgeons...
  12. I flew home 5 hour flight 4 days after surgery. I recommend medical grade compression socks for the flight.

    Help, I'm so lost!

I'm also 10 days out, and a couple days ago, jello hurt my stomach! Can't imagine solid food. Protein shake was too harsh today Good old broth! Love that stuff..
  14. You need more water. Double or more what you are now getting. As for the antibiotics, what kind are they? Some types can be pretty harsh.

    Then and now pics!

    Awesome job!
  16. What type of protein are you eating? In general you only need 3-4 oz of protein per meal. Nonstarchy veggies should be present too.
  17. Glad he's getting great treatment! Good luck in a speedy recovery!

    Type of food

Hold off on the noodles. They will work your stomach too hard for this time. A couple months of letting your tummy heal will pay dividends! Even when you get refried beans, they need to be very runny.

    Abnormal lab results

I'd be surprised if any of that delays surgery. They might put you on an iron supplement before hand.
  20. Sometimes the nose will run out the front, sometimes down the back of the throat. I've been having problems with sinus drainage too. Figure it is allergies.

14 days post op 6 wks Pregnant

You need to speak to some drs about all the meds that were administered during and after surgery as they would affect a fetus. This is one pregnancy you may need to consider letting go... time is of the essence, so start making those calls today. Good luck in whatever you decide.

    Pain

I would contact the surgeon about it. In general, things should be better, not worse, especially without a specific strain or something. Let us know what they say...
  23. Generally it is 10lbs. Definitely ask your surgeon.
