    Hair Loss

Generally hair loss lasts from 3-9 months, and starts regrowing at about a year. YMMV. Can be anything from evenly thinning to bald patches.
  3. I did see a youtube video of a DS patient (several years post op) that was hospitalized with malnutrition. I assume she hadn't kept up with her bloodwork and/or supplements. The malabsorption component of bypasses and DSs can pose significant risks long term. Lifetime follow-up is paramount!
  4. I just got my sleeve almost 3 weeks ago. There was a 16 year old at the hospital at the same time as me that got the bypass. I don't know her story, but her recovery looked a bit harder than mine. I think the sleeve (in general) is the better option for young people. I also have a 16 year old daughter, and if she gets to the position of needing surgery, I'll recommend the sleeve for her as well. Something you may not have thought about, but when you get to the point where sex is a possibility, look into getting Nexplanon (arm implant). You are going to need all your nutrition for you for the next bunch of years. Surgery can be scary! But so is diabetes and all the other complications from obesity. You are going to do great!
  5. You just have to ask your surgeon's office about this. Each practice probably has different wait times, etc.

    BIG MISTAKE

I watched several before surgery. Was very enlightening! I love how sophisticated the tools are!

    Liquid Diet Struggles

Just imagine your stomach splitting open, or getting a massive infection. That should help with the motivation...

All I can do is sleep

Yes, it is normal... but! You have to keep on top of your fluids. You also need to walk. Set alarms to keep waking you up to do those things during the day. At night you can sleep undisturbed.

    Swelling

Nope, not normal. Be sure to get checked out. Good luck!

    Day 6 Hungry

I absolutely think it is possible to have true hunger. My solution? I'm only 2 weeks out, but am consuming 1000+ cals. 3 cups of whole or 2% milk, 1 cup of drinkable yogurt, coconut water, protein powders, and even my vitamins have 75cals. I also drink 40oz of water. My skin feels great, I have plenty of energy, and I'm feeling healthy, not pinched and malnourished like I felt on the preop diet. And I am losing weight at an acceptable rate. I'm allowed to start purees, so am adding in cottage cheese and today I'm gonna try tuna. Once I'm getting calories and protein from food, things will shift again.

    Digestion issues-2 years post op

I would go see a GI doc to rule out a physical cause. If that goes well, you may just need to take a break from those foods.

Dealing with being "the fat one"

At 300lbs I like to wear long compression leggings (men's Under Armor heat gear 2x), no underwear, with a long loose synthetic material top...( or another compression short sleeved top. ) I keep my regular bra on. I'm covered up, but the lightweight synthetic clothes allow for comfortable swimming and walking around out of the water. Dries pretty fast too. I have massive varicose veins below the knee.. that's why I wear long leggings. Another person could just wear the shorts.

    4 days post op

Eating solid food this early is extremely dangerous! Probably be a good idea to let your surgeon know so they can advise. In the meantime, drink, drink, drink. Try to wash that stuff out of your stomach. Don't take big gulps though. Small sips, often.

    Intake

It might be a good thing to go back to clear or full liquids for a day or two. That way you can drink all day without waiting. Also, try to make sure what you are drinking tastes good and is varied. I love coconut water. Homemade broth is good too...

    revision after child birth!

Welcome! You have found a place with a huge amount of first hand experience and information. Spend plenty of time here, and before you know it, you'll be the next "expert"!
  19. Well, I don't go in much for sensationalism, but putting wls center stage might help more people that need the surgery become aware of it. June took a couple years to complete her transformation, which is realistic. Haven't seen the program, just read a couple articles.

    Dr. Jalil illan frajio

I was just there a week ago! Wonderful!
  21. I have Tricare Prime North. Would have been a minimum of 6 months, and more likely a year. Went to Mexico with Dr. Illan, and couldn't be happier. I am a military man's wife... not military myself. Those actually in the Army can NOT get the surgery, as they will be fired. I don't know about the other branches of service.
  22. It's weird how some have big calves and others have small ones, when everyone is overweight. I join the big calf group. I'm 16 days post op and have lost half an inch on each calf since surgery!
  23. Try eating a smidge more... add a couple hundred calories.

    Having concerns???

There are several different types of hernias. Obese people tend to get hiatal and abdominal wall hernias before surgery. Incisional hernias can happen because of the surgery, but are pretty rare. If you don't have a hernia going into surgery, you likely won't get one, and weight loss will help prevent from getting one in the future. Even thin people CAN get hernias... so there is no guarantee.

    2 things: exercise and protein

There is no time like the present to begin exercising. A good goal is 3-5 miles a day of walking (can break it up). This is a goal, I don't mean you have to be able to do it now. Work up to it. I don't know how much protein you are getting now, but make sure it is at least 70g a day. Keep the carbs at or under 65g during weight loss. Good luck!
