  1. There is no reason that we won't get stomach flus, unfortunately. Just try not to get the stuff until you're healed! And like sherri said.. seek treatment if dehydration is a concern.
  2. Why are you considering plication over the sleeve? I have a sleeve. I like the idea that the body will create scar tissue, healing the stomach. In plication, the stitches are forever required to hold things together.

    Straw?

Straws are one of those surgeon specific things. The idea is you will swallow air while using one... which isn't good for the pouch. Personally I believe there are two ways of using a straw. One just brings the liquid to the mouth, but it sits in the mouth, touches the teeth, and can get rid of the air. The other just sucks it pretty much right down the throat, bypassing the teeth, etc. Ultimately, just like everything else, depends on how you use it!
  4. Spiraling out of control is absolutely not what you want to be doing. Take a moment, and just breathe. It sounds like your doctor wants you to stay around 140-150.... At least for now. Since your weight wants to jump around, just maintaining for a while sounds like a good idea. Remember why you started this journey... For health, right? Your doctor has your health in mind when recommending maintaining for a bit. Let your body catch up to your phenomenal progress! Just because you plateau for now, doesn't mean the journey is over... If anything, a new phase has just begun....

    6 pound weight gain...

Not eating doesn't really do anything except slow down your metabolism, make you dehydrated, and decrease your lean muscle mass. (IE, nothing good!) Don't worry overly much about the scale right now. You just need to take care of you!

    Poop problems

It is important to get that stuff out. Get a fleet enema and maybe some exam type gloves. With the gloves, you can carefully reach in and pull it out without straining. The enema will lubricate things and make you go too. If there is a lot of blood, or the bleeding won't stop, you'll have to be seen. You need to be proactive making sure you have success every couple of days. Miralax, milk if magnesia, smooth move tea, metamucil, other fiber supplements, etc. Good luck!

    Please help! I'm nervous....

Find someone to drive you home from the hospital. Do you have help with your kids? Do you have a plan in case of complications? The preop diets vary according to surgeons. No biggie having differences. The post op diet is super-duper important. Life or death stuff. Try various protein powders and shakes, but don't stock up because your tastes might change after surgery.

    That time of the month…

I was going to post this same question! I had my sleeve on March 20th, and the first day of my period had me completely bloated and was painful high in my abdomen. I rested all day. The second day had horrible cramps (more typical period feeling). What I did was go out for a longish walk that had a long, steep hill. Worked me out good. Cramps went right away! Today (day 3) I feel pretty normal. I hope things won't be so bad going forward!

    Post-Op Rash?

I did. I thought it might be an allergy to the take home antibiotics. There are other things it could be, but def. allergy to something. I took benadryl, liquid, but talk to your team.
  10. 2 oz have 150% dv of vit A! That's amazing!
  11. Spouses usually need to know. What if there are complications? Who will take care of you and pick up your slack? Who has to deal with the hormonal outbursts? If you don't live with them, they don't need to know..... But if you do, they do.

    Why Did You Gain Weight?

I remember stepping on a scale when I was in 2nd grade. It said 105lbs. I thought to myself, "If I just don't gain any more weight, I'll be perfect as an older teenager." No one else was heavy in my house. There was a lot of pasta and day old doughnuts, but why was I always the only one that needed seconds? Looking back at photos, I appeared to be a normal weight until first or second grade, and other than moving from Florida to Georgia, I don't know of anything that changed. The move wasn't upsetting. I sucked my thumb until I was 11 years old (5th grade). That was a comfort thing. Maybe food was too? Lots of questions, not so many answers!
  13. I was wondering this myself. It's thicker than pudding, so best to wait for soft food I think.
  14. What did your team say about your goal?

    Sugar Addiction

Easter candy? Wow, I hadn't even noticed! I have 3 kids... It is everywhere, just hadn't crossed my mind. Huh. I'm also almost a month post op. Ate some cheese off the top of a white pizza. Dis-cust-ing! Lots to learn apparently...

    Can't keep up...

He is absolutely showing signs of depression. He has withdrawn and changed. He needs counseling asap. It would be good to find someone that will work with him by himself most of the time and bring you in on occasion to address your point of view.

    Swelling while walking

I learned during a walking class in college to keep the elbows bent and arms pumping while walking. That keeps the swelling down.

    Sore Tailbone!

Apparently removal is a legitimate fix for severe cases. Perhaps try concentrating on glute exercises. If the muscles get larger, they may provide some buffer.
  20. I wore pj bottoms and a tshirt without a bra. They unhooked the IV long enough for me to put on the shirt. Worked really well since I was always up and walking the halls. Slipper socks would have been good. I just wore the ted socks while walking around, but I'm not particular

    Not a patient

Encouragement can come in many forms. Keep in mind she isn't even allowed to lift weights for at least a month after surgery (maybe 2!). Walking is good, but patients tend to be stubborn. Maybe win her over with sweetness. "Wow. I can't believe how you transforming before my eyes! Do you want to go window shopping?" Walking around stores and trying on clothes is plenty of exercise for now. You going with her will be nice. Small surgery on the outside, big surgery on the inside. Her stomach won't be healed for 8-12 weeks at least. Some say the scar tissue won't be fully formed for 6 months. So there is time. Ideally she'll start a regular physical routine by 6-8 weeks post op. Walking 1 mile a day is a good goal to start, depending on her fitness. These early days are all about healing. Some days she'll have plenty of get up and go, and others she'll sleep all day.

My personal VSG journey take 2

You are healing quick! Happy b-day to the boy!
  23. Def. Not just you. I'm lucky I tolerate milk. I get my protein from all things dairy except cheese right now.
  24. I just have it in my local grocery store. They have a locator on their website. http://siggisdairy.com/locations/
  25. What Wilderness said. If things don't improve soon, they'll probably do some tests to see what the problem might be.
